I have to agree with nunki on one point , grab'em is a lot simpler program , and yet its buggy to the point of being unusable , and hasnt been fixed for over 6 months now. So for me , it is hard to have faith in elephant.
I am wondering , do you guys (admin ~~) believe that elephant will be better than PT3 when they are both fully completed and released , or is it supposed to be a value for money alternative?

When you compare the PT3 beta to the current version of Elephant Alpha, I would say that the pokerstartegy coders have a lot of work ahead of them. This adds to my confusion of the news.
I don't know what the size of the team working on the releases is, but I would predict that PT3 will support all the poker rooms that PT2 did, before Elephant is ready.

I assure you that our final Elephant version will be at least as good as PT3. It will support all pokerrooms we partner with and have a hand grabber included in it besides many features. One of the reasons we replace is that we'll have an active role - we can fix and add more features when there're plenty of demands from our users. Moreover, we will be able to send out the licenses without you waiting 3-6 weeks like before. All of this will cost no less than buying PT licenses, I bet.

And I believe you totally, but I don't see the final version of the program coming out in the near future. Sure, in a year or two Elephant can be better than PT3, but what are you going to do in the meanwhile? Give us licences to a inferior program with loads of bugs?
Huge +EV in the long run, but at the moment I am still waiting for you to give us licences to PT3 until you can get Elephant to a version that is on par with PT3.
Jeez, build a bankroll to NL50, FL1/2 and then buy PT3 if you want it that much.
It's not thàt expensive for the possible returns you get at higher limits, before those limits, it's not worth bothering with anyway for any reason besides curiosity.

It's not worth bothering with before that? I totally disagree. On the basis of having used pt3 beta I can say that it is a useful tool in terms of replaying hands and recording wins and losses for each session. I play the lowest limits due to being quite a beginner in cash games and I do have somewhat of a limited BR on Partypoker.
As for buying PT3, the fact that PT2 has been phased out so quickly will cost me $80, if I want to get it. I hope the site admins will understand the frustration with this.
As to the few hours I spent with Elephant yesterday, it is nowhere near complete. Its still going to take months before a proper release and I would like to have proper tracking after the PT3 beta runs out...

I agree with SonicXT. It's not necessary to use PokerTracker or similar programs on the lowest limits. The players are so bad that you should beat them easily, and the stats on the players at this limit make almost no sense. You won't need the program really until you reach a higher limit where stats of other players might be interesting and useful.

I agree that while it is not necessary to have a tracking program at lower limits, that it is in fact very useful. I am not sure if you are aware of the quick advances the Elephant has been making, but if our IT wasn't sure that they can bring out a fully functional next to bug free version in the near future (not several months) then this step would not have been taken.

I am just using it for basic tracking of hands, wins and what not. Well, I find that at the moment Elephant has problems with even the basic tracking. When I uncheck the tournament limits to be included box, it still puts them in my tracking. Also I find the program to be quite confusing at times although I know this will improve as the program is developed.
The idea of this thread however was to talk about the news.
I think the main problem here is that I anticipate that once I need a pockertracker (just about the time when pt3 beta runs out), that elephant will not be completed.
If it is not about the money, what about providing us with PT3 licences if Elephant is not complete?

Ok, that explains some. I guess I am still frustrated by the fact that I was only about a months play away from getting the PT2 licence and that would have given me more choice because I could upgrade to PT3 for a very low price. Then I could play more and catch Elephant later when it would be in a better shape.
I heard of some people wanting to get the elephant instead of pt although they have completed in time, what about I swap with them and get PT2 when I get to my 2000 mark?

That's not possible. I asked PT support when I got my licence, they said it was only for PT2.
And if you find bugs in elephant, just post them in the forum, they'll be addressed within a week. And it's not advertised as being stable, bug free and 100% complete - that's why it's called an "alpha test".
I'm willing to bet it'll be ready quite a bit before PT3 though.
btw you're complaining about the price of PT, but do you have any idea how much elephant would cost if they didn't give it after 2k points?
