Hi guys.

I'm Portuguese. My girlfriend is going to aply for a job interview for the Royal United hospital in Bath. Is there anyone from this area or someone that know enough to tell me what kind of city is it, what's the main economic activity , if it's expensive to live there, how much can cost an apartment or house for 2, and other things like that.

I aprecciate all the help i can get.

Tks _thumbsup:

Bath is a big tourist stop-over -especially between June and September. Many Cafe's and Restaurants and shops selling Roman Bath merchandise. The Ancient bathhouse is well worth a few visits! It is a University town so there are even a couple of nice bars and clubs with plenty of 20 somethings about most of the year. There is some mining in the area still and quite a lot of farming.

That's expensive _o:

I hope the rent is cheaper than this. And the beer lol.

Saw the University website, interesting options for international students. And about the farming, is it rural?

Thank u both _thumbsup:

That isn't actually so expensive compared to other similar places.

Bath is just a 'nice' place and a little like Bournemouth imo insomuch as it is quite a popular place to move to by retiring/ed people. This doesn't mean there is only bingo to do though as mentioned already!

So, if you are into insurrection and rioting etc, don't expect a big turnout! :)

To cut a long story short, you could do far, far worse than Bath.

Regards,

Mal.

Hi ESFX2000,

If you're a sports fan, Bath is a great rugby town so make sure you get down to the Rec.

Of course we cant forget the mighty Bath City FC!

Went to see the Bath FC website , not so mighty now _frown:

gadget51, well, when i say expensive keep in mind that in Portugal the minimum salarie is 500 EUR
Went to compare with London and well....forget what i've said _o:

I wasn't looking for a big city to live in, i'm from a small island and there's 2 things i appreciate most: quiet and ocean

If she's accepted should i hope to find some job there? At least a part time that i can counciliate with any study? I've heard many times that this is the best way to enhance our value after we graduate. In Portugal it doens't count for much if isn't in the area you are applying.

Well one last question, is there any casino around?

Tks for all the help

Hi ESFX2000,

If you do go to Bath, you're only 1.5/2 hrs drive away from Devon, bountiful, peaceful countryside and top surf:

Best of luck with your travels.

Thanks MarkQuick

Well, there's been some changes, the inerview for Bath has been delayed and other one is confirmed for next month to Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

I couldn't find any info at numbeo or any site about the cost of living, which i've heard it's more expensive than Bath.

Is there anyone from here that know and/or live there?

Tks _thumbsup:

Hello everyone. Thanks for the reply.

tino87 can you accept the friend request? So i can send you my contact to make communication easier. Have a lot of questions

MarkQuick thanks for the link, indeed seems a nice place to live with so much to do.

My girlfriend just had her interview today and she's very confident, but next week she will know for sure.

The area is Amersham, Stoke Mandeville or Wycombe, not sure how it will work.

Tks again.
