Well, why would I have ended up living in Latvia for a longer period of time if she wasn't?
Great blog, i'd like to know how you managed to go from the micro's to nl100 in two months. It's really sick. BTW, aren't you making more money than when you get a job after graduation?

I imagine I'll be the only non-Latvian if it does happen, and like everywhere I go, everyone's stuck speaking English![]()
Wait, you have been living in Latvia for the last 4 years and don't know Latvian language?
lol @ this.
There are sooo many ppl that couldnt learn it in 21 years, since Latvia is free country. So 4 years is not that bad, if he knows the basics
@ fruktpuff
TilTmuch was saying, that it would be good if your wife would speaks latvian with friends, parents etc., not russian as alot do so, especially in Riga

I moved up so fast because I had some experience in other poker formats. Also I have a lot of experience in mind games. I played chess for like 10 years and switched to strategic video games after that. Probably should have mentioned that in starting post. And yeah, I'm definitely earning more by poker now, but I started playing same time I started my studies, now it would be kinda silly to abandon uni. And it's good to have a backup plan.
This blog needs more dota talk
Dota ftw !
But I'm afraid many ppl won't understand anything about it. Probably they have no idea what are we talking about right now

Now that's a fair point, only a handful of our friends are russians, but uncommonly enough they all speak latvian, which I suppose we can argue is because they are ~25-28ish and that generation was a little better than previous ones.
The issue of my latvian becomes apparent again in that all of our friends rather welcome the possibility to speak english when i'm around to practice their spoken english, whereas they commonly use written english elsewhere on a daily basis with the internet being the way it is.

hmm.. maybe cuz latvia is such great place? ♦
Challenge totally failed ♦
I finished my 100k hands with almost no profit
Graph looks like I'm running super hot first 50k hands and super bad last 50k hands. I'm lucky it didn't happen on the contrary, probably would have quit after that ♦ Here's the overall graph :

I did some analysis and find out I'm playing a little bit looser than average. Also I'm a little bit more on the passive side. Most likely it doesn't matter at all, because difference is small and I found some really good players who plays same way.
Most interesting thing - I found only 30 players with vpip higher than 30 after 200 hands. It's something like 1% of all population. This means fish are much tighter than @ regular tables. OFC, it's hard to get 200 hands on fish @ zoom, but still it's super low. When I played regular tables, I table selected a lot and my criteria was 1 fish at table. @ zoom I got many tables with no fish and very rarely with more than one. That means I play less hands with fish than @ regular tables and they're tighter as well. Now I'm considering switching back to regular tables, maybe even switching site.
This challenge was pretty interesting and I'm not giving up yet on zoom, probably will play for some time and then decide. At least I made 3-4k from rakeback. If I had to do it again, I'd play a little bit tighter I guess, because there are many nits and they stack off only with the nuts
My std dev is super high, 9.11/hand, that means huge swings are possible. I did some research and I will share the results :
1. It's still ~10 chance that I'd have made 10k, but running bad
Yeah, sounds really optimistic
2. My winrate is somewhere between -3.4bb/100 and 5bb/100 with 86% confidence
3. If my winrate really is 0.8bb/100 how it happened during this challenge, I could be losing after 1m hands with 19% confidence. LOL
Variance is bitch. As I said, I'm going to play nl200 zoom for some time, then I'm planning some new challenge. Please, post if you have some great ideas. C ya l8er.
Variance truly is a bitch. Always interesting to see such graphs, it puts things in perspective...
Interesting view on the number of fishes btw. Didn't you notice it while playing?
Considering that the peak was at $10k+, and it's NL200, of course that amount of profit in that amount of hands isn't optimal..
But on the flip side, calling 800LVL, which is well over an average monthly salary in Latvia "nothing" is a bit harsh..
I don't even get that per month for a full time employment at my normal job working in qualified IT support with Scandinavian language requirement..
Anyway, we got sidetracked from the important conversation going on earlier...
Why are You so interested in my nickname ?♦ It's m000nshiner. Are You playing nl200 zoom too ? If so, I'd like to know your nickname as well.
You shouldn't feel that you have to tell people you know..
Anyway, what happened to all the beertalk?
And how's the game going now that you're off the challenge?
Beer is meant for drinking, not talking ♦ Don't remember any day without a beer this week
So, if you're interested in some, please, let me know. Only we should wait for a better weather, it sucks pretty much now ...
Haven't played much after the challenge, won a couple of buyins.
I'm busy most days between work and other commitments, but I'm sure we'll be able to make something happen..
I'll be heading into the old town later tonight, in about 1-1.5h, not sure where to though, meeting up some visiting Norwegians I used to work with.. I'll drop you a friend request meanwhile just in case.
Hey man, when Do you think to start your challenge?
Mine started pretty NICE on a fist day already :))
I haven't decided yet what kind of challenge I want. And I won't start it so soon, probably after 3 weeks only. Now I'm leaning towards sick volume challenge, I could try something like 240k hands/month ♦
