Wow really nice blog, don't you ever dare to quit this one

Started husng's myself recently, would you give me your reasons to play hypers instead of turbo's? For me hyper is higher variance, but lower edge right? Or I got the edge part wrong...?

edit: following ofc :)

if you don't mind, I will try to answer it too. I played turbos in fall and switched to hypers just before new year. Reasons?

- much higher traffic
- higher hourly (yes higher variance and lower edge, but you put in much more volume)
- fast structure attracts fishes cuz they see it more as a flip. hypers up to 30s are super soft
- easier to multitable (the stack differences are not as significant)

Hi there!

Glad to have you, go check out youtube if u havent already ^^

Basically i agree with everything pavels said, except for the fact that they are easier to multitable, i dont agree with that.

However perhaps thats a personal difference between me and him.

After my exams I will watch them, thanks. If you don't mind I'll ask you the same question what I asked pavel... :P

I tried few hypers but I could give them another shot. Mind telling me whats the biggest and most important difference between turbo and hypers? I know how the structure is but I mean preflop and postflop game. I assume fish will call you light up shits like T9, K7 etc, so Ax -> them? How we play during start (20bb). And when we have 15bb? And 12? Below 10? How effective is 3betting vs regs (intention of folding to 4b)?

I have a SH BSS background (moved to HU for few months), but I still feel my strongest aspect is postflop. But I heard preflop game isn't too hard to learn :P

Go Go JTS!

I have read sometimes that you post :"TILT, f...ng TILT" :f_biggrin:
Seems that you make very short breaks or non breaks. Isnt that too much for a Pokerplayer Mind to grind this high variance games without breakes?! I guess youre a very good player because youve made few coaching vids on this special training site every HU SnGler knows ;) - so you have to be good imo!

My private schedule since 3 weeks contains grinding from Tue to Sat, Sun and make a break for one or two days Sun/Mon. For me ist absolute important to have this breaks without no Poker(No vids, no play, nothing)
Okay, today is my day without Poker and Ive looked into PS :f_p: But im quiting immediately.

Can you tell me something about your Grinding Schedule?!

:)

PS: Im not a native english speaker but I try my best

Haha, i would have rather read that you think im pretty decent at poker because uve actually watched some of my youtube vids rather then because i am a little bit known :P

Haha when i post tilt fckin tilt kind of stuff, dont worry too much, im not really tilting or anything i just post it more as a joke then anything else like OH NOEZZZ WHAT A TILTING HAND but if u play as much games / hands as me, youve pretty much been sucked out on in ever single spot already :P

Altho, i do sometimes fall into B game for sure which is just something where i feel frustrated and start to pay less attention and just autopilot some to get in more volume

I usually take very short breaks, also why i dont update my blogg during the day much, i just grind grind grind take cigarette breaks, then upload graph and new day starts

I agree, its a bit much, i often face burnout, the thing is i want to put in really high volume as much as possible without putting in too many hours per day.
So i simply cant afford to sit here play one hour then watch a movie for one hour or something along those lines imo. currently i feel like i have the biggest edge playing 1-2 tables i can ofcourse play 3-4 but then my ROI would most likely drop to 0.5-2% and i have a very rough year behind me pokerwise with crazy swings and breakeven stretches, (the lower your roi the bigger ur swings will be) So right now i am probably settling for 3% while 2 tabling in stead of 1.8% while 4 tabling while in hourly 4 tabling will be more /hr ((esp if you start counting rakeback)) but i dont want to go trough those insane swings again.

I am honestly so much below EV in the last 12 months, if i would tell you guys most would not even believe it is possible.

So right now, i am just trying to take biggest edge possible even if that isnt biggest hourly, too keep mentally sane :P And i still want to play the same volume as i did before, so indeed i can take less breaks.

I dont think im a very good player at all, i simply think i am better then average in hyper turbos, and thats good enough to make nice money already :P Altho even when running good i keep working on my game every week at least. Especially with coaching and people asking me questions all the time, sometimes i even have to relearn something myself before i can explain it well :P

This seems really nice to me, and sometimes it happens by itself to me.

For example ill grind monday-friday and then saturday some friends or gf will call me to hang out and then suddenly we are having fun on sunday as well and then on monday i feel really refreshed and its supernice :P

But most of the time, i cant resist playing, even after these years and 10 thousands of games I just still love poker so so much its such a nice and complex and interesting game.
I almost never feel pressured to play however.

My usual grind schedule just looks like this, wake up smoke schedule, decide what i want to do today :P text some with friends and figure out what they are up to, if nothing fun is happening, then i just grind hard try and make 5 hours of grind in those days.

And then if i do make that after that im usually pretty tired so i watch one episode of a serie or a movie in my bed with laptop and sleep

So basically I dont have a steady schedule, i just adapt some to what my friends are up to. Unless im involved in a prop bet or doing some 5 day volume bet or challenge or something like that.

Like today i have nothing scheduled so ill try to grind 5 hours :P

(NOTE: 5 hours of grind is usually 10 hours in front of the pc because of updating bloggs making videos, talking with students, updating twitter and facebook, studying some vids as well when i can) and then some procrastinating :P and obviously there is waiting time to get empty lobby waiting for person to join etc so to actually get HM1 to show u 5 hours u probably including just smokebreaks spend 7 hours with poker already)

Basically what it for me at least comes down to, one of the most awesome things about poker is that i can put in as much volume as i choose to, when i choose to.

If i have to be somewhere for real life stuff, no problem, just play poker before or after.

If i dont feel like playing poker today no problem will play tomorrow.

etc

Having a set in stone schedule will take that freedom away from me, and thats not something i want, however often i believe it would be good to have some more bigger breaks in there to keep my mind fresh :)

But not having a schedule allows me to (if im disciplined/wise enough to notice im near burnout) take a break from poker whenever i want, or not if i dont want to.

In short;

If id have a schedule i wouldnt be strict with it eitherway, altho i see the merits in having one, its just not for me i believe.

Good long post ! Best thing is that you enjoy palying poker and, in my mind, that is one of most important things that separate wining players from BE !

Yep, I was implying that calling is better in my opinion. I ment "jamming seems too thin" bc I think you expect to get paid much lighter than I think is really going to happen.

Well maybe yeah, maybe not, the truth is given the limited information we have we dont really know.

All we know is ;

when he leads the turn he has a valuebased hand. He wont lead the turn with hands like QT so we dont need to worry about the nut straight already (while thats only one combo, that seems to be the "scariest one" on this board to me at least)

After taking this line, i have the absolute nut part of my range on the river.
If i check behind flat turn, and then face a bet on the river i will have MANY weaker hands then Kx, in fact, i even have the BEST King X possible here.

He only has a valuerange here, never a bluff.

What we dont know is; (and need to know in order to figure it out if jam is much better (or worse) then flat.

What is he bet calling on the river?

If he is bet calling hands like JQ or other one hand type Jx, Kx, maybe even 9x because he just doesnt believe me and then all 2 pairs (because anything else, one pair or two pair hands, dont make much sense to have here)

I doubt he is bet/calling with anything worse than a King there. I think expecting him to pay of with like JQ is waaay too optimistic.

then jamming will probably be best, if he only has 2 pair hands here that are bet calling and the others Jx are making a rediculously tight fold, then flatting will be best.

Imo its like this; We have top pair top kicker, and we played it like we have 3d pair, so it would make sense to me that he will look me up pretty light. on top of that he would take the same line with just Jx or Any worse top pair.

However if u watched the entire vid u saw that he got it in in multiple spots with 2nd/3d pairs etc, so i cant say i hate my play there, i just think its about neutral, same goes for calling.

Ridiculously tight fold ? Seems quite an easy fold for me :f_confused:

You say you played it like you had 3rd pair, well that might have been thruth on the flop, but you´re not going to take a random 67 on the river and turn it into a bluff (at least I wouldn´t expect that, I mean why would you.) so your line looks rly strong, somewhat like rivered two pair or smth slowplayed as it is.

I actually think, he should even fold Kx to your jam on the river.

Just rewatched it to make sure I haven´t missed smth, till the point this hand we´re talking about happened, he DID NOT do anything like that :P That was another opponent.

I could try to prove my point mathematically, assuming you´re getting called by every Kx and stronger, how many better/worse combos you get called by ... but I´m such a fish, not even sure if I could do that

yeah up to that point not, but in later part of the video he did, which is maybe something i remembered about him, or im just really good at classifying player tendencies and therefor figured it out or something :P

All of what you say is imo true for a good player, or a thinking reg who understands ranges etc, i dont think any of this is true for my opponent however.

Mehhh its close not gonna spend too much time on it, perhaps ur right, all depends on what we know, i think he will call any J you dont think he will call a K.

but thats what it all depends on, so no point arguing about this, moving on :P

Im not asking you to give me a full guide again ^^, I just want to get to know some (basic) ideas about callign ranges so I can work on my game :)
