Recently I had a discussion with a friend about who could be the most famous poker player out there. What do you think?
I ended up saying that it is Phil Hellmuth just because he had lots of commercials in USA, also he has the most bracelets and he is popular on YouTube (raging tilt videos). Although it may as well be Negreanu/durrrr/Ivey/Doyle Brunson.
This begs a followup question in order to provide a proper answer..
Mainstream fame or fame among pokerplayers?
If specific to poker players; Live or online player targetgroup?
I'd be willing to wager a guess that Dneg has more fame due to exposure as a main marketing brand for PokerStars than Phil Hellmuth in the last few years, whereas people who've been following the market longer surely have seen more PH.
I guess mainstream fame. Discussion was about popularity among people who do not follow poker news - just regular people who have heard at least something about poker/people in poker.
i guess if you asked people who dont play poker then the chance are they couldnt name anyone
if you ask poker players then i reckon the answer will be Phil Ivey
Maybe Victoria Coren.
She has done alot of Tv work and may be known by the non poker players

don't think that outside of UK many know who she is.

You realise we're talking about people who got famous by playing poker, not movie stars and billioners that showed up on HSP once or twice and spewed off a couple 100k's.
Its hard to tell really. It depends on where your from a lot. Like its hard to say for USA since atm there are no poker rooms there and there for no poker marketing. I think it has to be DN worldwide since his doing the most torwards getting himself infront of a camera every chance he gets. Female has to be either vanessa or liv.
