hiya all, its been some time that ive written some stuff for the english community, and im sr for that. so here for u:

E250+25 4000 chippies to start with and 100 players who were willing to fight for the big prize of E9000.

i have to start with a short report of a tournament eric betbiet played last month in Rotterdam, the portcity where every german tourist who asks for the altstadt gets his ars kicked.

the official casino (HC) did organize a 4 days pokerevent in every casino in the netherlands, every month an other city.
the first one we went to was rotterdam and since i was feeling really sick, i was able to sell my entry ticket to somebody else and only eric would play the E200 event. because we are dutch and adore money, the casino decided that late arrivels could play if somebody was knocked out of the tournament during the first hour. so eventually 115 would make the field.

eric started off very good by calling a bluffallin from some donk with bottem pair on a AK high board, the donk was betting and raising almost every hand and with only 600 in the pot he went allin with more then 3000 chips on the river. with only his 5  paired on the flop he made a hero call and was rewarded with a great ovation because he knocked out the first player of the day. and offcourse because he was the first chipleader of the day. now it is said that an early chiplead means nothing and to make things worst, never ever has an early chipleader been the winner of an "bigger"event. true...

i will not bother u with the rest of the game (lets talk about ME) but.......
he finished second ! (a well lets give him some more !!!!!)
wOOt go eric go betbiet. u will win that bracelet, i know.

with this second place victorie he recieved 150 point in the HC leaderboard and he was keen to play in nijmegen (n.) and make some more points.
because i helped him during his play, giving tips, advice and moral support when he was down and almost out, he decided to back me up for the E250 event in n. i refussed... offcourse. i will let people back me, but i will not let PGA members back me. its a honour thing.

so we are of to n. a lot of players of the pub we will not name, were also there and the spirit and spirits were increasing in sky rocketing amounts.

i was seated at table nr. 4 with some young guns, a beautyfull chineese girl (the smell of babi pangnang was in the air), some older woman who were talking about the hairdressers (come on!! we are playing poker and not talking about our grandchildren), a well known dutch player from turkisch decent and some players from the pub.

and the turk made the table shiver (from delight), he was betting and raising, putting a straddle on, checking/betting/raising in the dark. mann it was no fun. i was sitting in the bigblind and he in the sb and it was checked to him. he had just lost half his stack and only completed the bb. duh dont do that with me, dont complete, dont raise just fold. MY BLIND!! when i was about to raise him, he took all of his chips and annouced that he would go allin. tsss long live PKK and the koerdisch rebels and down with the grey wolves. without looking at my cards i called his allin and we were to a showdown. why? u ask? why call an allin without looking at my cards. lol just as i told above, MY BLIND!
he showed J :diamond: 6 :club: and i had a big big big advantage with my Q :diamond:3 :club:, lol. offcourse i won... as we say in the netherlands, ik had er een goed gevoel bij, i had a good feeling at that moment. the table was amazed by my move (and yes i admit, i was amazed to). the question here is: who was the biggest donkey.

btw HERE are some pics of the event, in the bottem right u find the pic of me and the turk just before he got his back whooped. (yes i know i need a haircut, and no im not stonend, that is just my normall lazy apearence).

i played a fairly tight game and was looking for the weak players. i thought i found one in a woman in her mid40ties, who also played tight but very predictable. utg she raised and i had QQ in the CO or B. i decided just to call and hoped to trap her on the flop or turn. the flop gave a low rainbow board with an str8 draw so i could not slowplay it till the turn. she made an contibet and i raised her. tho she had an overpair on the flop she showed the 99 and folded. later in the evenig i found out that she is one of the better dutchwoman and winner of the ladiesevent last year.

some hand later i limped with 3 more limpers with my J :club:J :diamond:.
the BB raised up the pot and i called him. the blinds were still at 100/200 so no harm done when overs would show. the flop gave 7 :club: 5 :club: and the 2 , he made his thing and i made my thing, that is, he made his contibet and i made a push. and whahahahaha he tought that i was on a draw and called with J2 !!! can u believe it? i could not and still i think he trew his AA under the table and took some bad cards out of his sleeve.

during the first break i could hold of some internet connection tnx to the nice reporters of an other site, and i was able to write a short report for the dutch site of ps (the Fastest Growing Site of PS, yep). but no time to take a leak.

and then ... a big nothing... i didnt get any decent hands for almost 2 hours, i think i have seen 83o in all his (or hers) possible combination. and those blinds were climbing. i manage 2 steal twice the blinds in two hours. i was getting really short. on an other table eric managed to quardripple (lol) his stack with 7 :diamond:3 :club:, because he was sitting in the big blind and the hand was limped by 4 players. with an 7 :spade:3  2 :diamond: flop and a smallish bet from one of the players and with 2 more callers he walked away a lucky man.

and i ??? duh i had about 6000 in chips and the blinds were 700/1400 with an ante of 200. utg i found K :club:J :club: and i shoved. because we were not allowed to smoke at the tables i walked to the bar and ordered a (iieee) heiniken, because i thought i was out. i was asked by the brush (pokermanager) to go back to my table because u are not allowed to walk away from ur hand when other players have still a desicion to make. i didnt do it... i didnt knew. officially my hand was dead. but since non of the players complained (they didnt knew either) the brush would allow it ... this time.
i havent seen the hand dealt but when i dared to watch again i saw a hugh pile of chips in front of me and some angry faces ... hehe i spiked trips. KK lost and AK too. long live telly savalas, god bless his soul.

after the second break we were down to 4 tables, 3 tables, 2 tables, 1 1/2 tables and then AAARRGGHHH

some people will know allready that my girlfriend once called me when i was in the middle of a game. at that moment i had QQ in my hands and she asked me, over the phone (talking about romantic) if i would mary her. i lost that hand but i won her hand.

i was still doing reasonable, i think i had an average stack when a shorty pushed with his last 4 or 5 bb. the hand was folded to me. i found QQ in the SB and i happely shoved my stck into the middle. the bb, who had me covered ...AAAArghh he... heee.... HHEEEE CALLED WITH A3o!!!

comment from marit, my girlfriend (my fiance that is)(15 min after the game over the phone) : why do u want to play with two woman when u allready have me as your woman...

so that was it, rest me to tell that eric betbiet reached place 7, rest me to say that i kicked the hell out of a pole in the street (wich hurt my foot and not the pole), rest me to tell that i am looking for a sponser for the 500 pairsevent in enschede early may wich i want to play with eric betbiet, rest me tell that i will write a letter to barry greenstein with the question why in freeking donkies name he wrote a book called "A on the River".

rest me to tell that i played good poker, that i played well and that i still agree with every move i made (naa, not really with that Q3, sst we will not talk about it any more...MY BLIND!!).

rest me to tell that marit is coming over this weekend, we havent seen each other for one month. hehe

rest me to tell u one more hand wich i have forgotten.
guess my hand.
im in the BB with around 20000 chips, blinds are 500/1000 100 ante.
a loosse agro player, table bigstck raises it up every 2 or 3 hands when the hand is folded to him. he raises from middle to 4000 and i call.

flop is J :spade: K  2 :diamond: . i check, he thinks and checks, turn is a 3 :spade:, i bet 5000 and he calls, river is an 2 :spade:, i push and after some time i had to ask the clock on him. he calls and showes KT :spade:

duh i had 33 ... thy shall never ever slowplay

today eric is coming over to my place to discuss our plays, and i know that he will say that i should have limped the hand and hope that the BB and i could knock out the pusher together.

gentlepeople , what is your opinion about that, how should i have played my QQ in the sb with one shortie pushing and a BB yet to act and me being middlestacked and only 5 players to go till the money comes?

easy push as otherwise BB can shove a wide(r) range of hands to exploit you, as he has you covered. besides, if he pushes over your call, you are still calling with QQ, and all you're doing is giving him a chance to get in cheaply to the flop with a weak hand (KQ, AJ, AQ) and suck out on you

giving him a chance to get in cheaply to the flop with a weak hand (KQ, AJ, AQ) and suck out on you

you forgot to mention A3o. But yeah, easy push.

Very interesting and entertaining read boschman, please do continue to post your tournament stories. One day I hope to be able to play in such high buy in tournaments too!

Well i promised it, so im writting this during my holiday in a nice little town in the south of the netherlands and i will try to upload this story this afternoon when i will check my email in the libary.
Im in Tilburg right now, a very catholic town where my father was born. They are so catholic that they changed the name of the university into Katholieke Universiteit Brabant, instead of the more obvious name Katholieke Universiteit Tilburg (why do you think? Well take the first letters of the obvious name and then google that word, only when u are 18+ years old).
But it is nice here, sun is shining and at this moment there is a flea market in the centre of the town and lots and lots and lots of good beer.

But lets go back to may 9 and go to Enschede.
One of my dreams is to walk on the beaches of San Fransico with a Philips GettoBlaster with some dutch music playing loud and drinking an icecold Grolsch.
Forget heineken and drink Grolsch. And they brew it in Enschede!
So when we passed the brewery we all had a little tear in our eyes and we had to stop and salute this beautyfull and precious factory.
(one good thing about germany (there are few): they were the first who had half a litre bottles Grolsch!!!)

the tournament started at 3 oclock (I guess) and we had plenty of time to have fun during our trip to enschede. We were with 4 people this time. Eric Betbiet (who would be the only player), Sevenruud and his latest girlfriend Graziella (we all think that she will last longer then all his former girlfriends combined, she is nice and he is really in love, yak) and offcourse: me. Sevenruud and I came along for support/advice and to play in the sidegames. Graziella was there for the looks…

And advice Eric would need. This was a limit tournament and Eric could remember that he played limit before, a long time ago , a long long long time ago.
He played this tour because all the other tours were soldout and he wanted to make some points for the leaderboard. He was in the top 10 with 2 straight winnings in 2 tournaments.
I started my poker career with the $50 of pokerstrategy on the limittables at party. Playing cents tables for half a year.

We left Arnhem eating icecreams and pie because I HAD MY BIRTHDAY (yea!)
And we entered Enschede a little later, and I can tell u , beside the Grolsch brewery they have NOTHING else there. Nothing nada zilch. (at the time of writing, there local soccerteam kicked the hell out of AjaxAmsterdam, hehe, and will be playing the European league). But at that day, enschede was still a place where only Holland Casino made some excitement and the occasional firework parties…

At the reception of HC we had to show our ID and I received congratulation and some coupons for free drinks and free food. The woman behind the counter was in a good mood so I received A LOT of free drinks coupons and for the rest of the day we were hooked on champagne and red bulls.
At the top floor of HC would the tournament be held and it was also the only place were u could not smoke. Bugger.
At that moment the main event was still in progress and Rolf Slotboom just left the main event because his AA got cracked. He walked right away to the limit pittboss and registered for the E300 limit event. (going to donk some more money away, he said).

There were not that many players in the limit event. Of the 120 places only 73 players registered and from those 2 players didn’t show up in the first hours and there stack was blinded away.

E300 +30 limit event, starting chips 3000, blinds 10/20, every 20 min the blinds would go up and first price was about E9000.

I had given eric a speed course limit and he decided to see a lot of cheap flops if there would be some players already in the pot. And pray to flop a monster or draws. And he did, he flopped monsters and great draws and every time he was outdrawn. In one of the first hands he hold 64s and was on the BB. With a raiser UTG and 5 ! callers , he also called and the flop was J66. betterdebert, callerdecall, raiserderaise, and the turn gave a 4, giving eric a fullhouse. Again there was big action between the 3 remaining players in the hand, UTG and middle and eric on the BB. The river brought a 7 and again it went capperdecap. Because the blinds were still small, the pot wasn’t that big in real money but in BBs it was BIG. Proudly eric showed his turned boat and wanted to scoop the pot when middle showed 76o and now middle wanted to take the pot, but then UTG showed JJ… it was going to be a looooong day.

First round of birthday champagne (and for eric his red bull)…they have möet et chadon!!!

Strangly enough there were 2 players out in the second hour… and for a limit game with blinds of 10/20 that is a hard thing to do. Later I spoke with the guy who was first out and he told me that he and 4 friends, who were still playing, had won the entry in there local pupcompetition. But they didn’t knew that they were going to play in a limit event and they were just having some fun and drinking a lot of hbeer.
One of his friends was chipleader and she was placed at erics table after the second break, she was a big donk. Really, over 2 metres in length and about 120 kilo. She slowplayed KK and AA and got away with it. She made runner runners and was almost in every hand winning with sheer luck. But winning is winning and she had now a solid first place. It was almost impossible for her not to reach the final table. But she didn’t. I still I have no idea how she did it but one hour later she was down and out. Loosing almost 12000 chips in less then 30 hands.

I noticed that there were a lot of woman playing in this event. Maybe limit is a womans thing. I guess that 30% of the players were female. 3 of them reached the final table… not bad… go girls.

During the break we went to play roulette and since I don’t gamle I didn’t play big. I had played 2-2 nolimit in a side game and after 2 hours I was up about E100 and I had some dimes to spare. I changed E10 (wow) in two E5 chips and placed a 32/35 cheval and a 13/15 street. 13 came. wOOt I had made a big profit of E60 and did the right thing. I took the money and bought some more champagne and redbull. Btw try some champagne and beer mixed, hmmm…

The stream of badbeats (gotta change your name eric) were not over. A flopped straight was outdrawn and his QQ got cracked by a runner straight.
With only 6500 chips left and in the BB (blinds 500/1000) eric found in the BB AJs. Only the sb completed and eric raised the hand and got reraised. The hand was capped and the flop was A93, betraisecall. The turn was a J and his last chips went in. Sb showed A3, making eric a happy man. The river was offcourse a 3. eric exit.
No tournament points , E330 entry fee down the drain, and a live long hatred against limitplayers.

He was later intervieuwed by a internet site who writes reports about the HC tournaments and he was asked what he would have done with the money if he would have won. Start a firework store, was his repley…

firework disaster 2000 no fun :(

in two weeks we will be going to schevingen to play some more… no limit this time…
and some days later, some players of the dutch community and I will be going to a 2 day poker fest near nijmegen. Buyin E120 (70 in the pot and 50 for free drinks and food). This fest is held on 31 may and first of june. There are still some seats avalible so if u want to come along, just leave a message below…

have fun all and when im rich I will only drink champagne and water…cant wait…
