Ah god..
Someone I respect very much told me today that "If you do something 90% of the time, it's a bitch, if you do it 100% of the time it's a habit".
Sosososo true..
A couple of weeks ago after the LAN weekend I came down with pretty bad flu (which still hasn't completely gone away) which just left me aching and generally awful. I had to miss out on exercise for a full week and since then have sporadically visited the gym but I can't even remember what it's like to go for a run anymore.
When I don't exercise, I can't be bothered to do much of ANYTHING! General mood is lower, cbf attitude, hey I'll just watch some tv shows while I wait for opponents, hey I'll just watch some tv shows while I play 2 opponents...This clearly extends to such things as blogging and goal setting, which feeds back on itself. Le sigh.
The point of this blog was to iteratively learn from my mistakes and just because I falter from time to time doesn't mean I've lost all I've gained thus far, and it's there to draw on when I need it. In that vein I'm going to return to modest goals and a couple of things that I thought I didn't need any more for routine's sake but in reality that probably isn't the case.
Poker is so much more fun and mentally rewarding when it's the only thing you're focusing on at a point in time. I had let slide in the last couple of months that it's *okay* to watch some day9 dailies or modern family while playing but it just doesn't work, just leads to breakeven play, what a goddamn waste of time... Oh well, PROGRESS over PERFECTION.
I'm not going to ramble for too long, I am pretty exhausted after my final night of basic counsellor training, that's 4 months since I started at Youthline and the journey is only really just beginning. Technically I can begin taking calls (omg) within the next couple of weeks or so, and the next *phase*, called "Transition" begins on the 17th of July where we deepen our understanding of various topics and review our experiences either listening in to calls or taking them ourselves. Feels like it was only yesterday I came back from a feel good session with a bunch of seemingly cool strangers and tonight I came back home after going through this journey with a bunch of truly wonderful and special people whom I look forward to learning and working with as we go forward.
I'll cut to the chase for some basic goals to get me restarted.
Week of 19th of June
-Morning walk for some light exercise and clarity, great way to organise my thoughts and think about what I want to get done that day.
-Kickboxing/run every day, there is no reason except laziness that can prevent this, I'm committed to reset this habit.
-4 chinese learning sessions before the end of the week, horribly behind my initial projection for this so gotta get back on track.
-Book in my next PLO coaching session. I've been quite busy in the weekday evenings lately and that's the only time I can get sessions with my coach so I have to book ahead to make sure this happens. So easy to get my schedule filled up and have to wait till next week (which never comes).
-DON'T FUCKING MULTITASK WITH POKER FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY AND RIGHTEOUS. I had a pure poker day last week and it was simply delightful, whenever I split attention it feels like a chore.
Just gonna keep it simple and roll with these for now, time for much needed sleep.
Take care,
TerrorBlade
