=) As for the advice, like I said I agree with some of it. I dont agree with going about telling someone what they "need" to do in a passive agressive dickish style is all.

Anyways if I lost 17 bucks by playing 5 games who cares? Having 17 or 0 is NEARLY no different.

As well, folding KK against a nit is still horrible if you have any sort of history with him. He could have an elastic 3 betting range, or if you play anything other than complete ABC standard poker (which btw will bring you all the mediocre success you can ever dream of) he may be putting a move on YOU because your ranges are weaker than most. As for myself I have to take into account my own image, which is probubly that of a lagro. I attack unopened pots from position with the top 75% of my range and because of this MUST take into account that someone with info on me COULD BE using it instead of just living in a world of "I'm the only one with a HUD and if he has "x" stats I must play him "y" way always because if I dont I will lose. Thats level 2 thinking and it will keep you in the micros. Enough strategy is availible for anyone who wants to learn about it that most players are thinking between level 1 and 2 at the micros, in fact your comments are firmly in the level 2 thought process.

Needless to say I still have an issue somewhere with consistancy. Where that is I'm not sure. The goal isn't and was never to play 2bb/100 poker. I clearly made my goal to climb the limits and prepare myself to play against much better players. Playing mindless puker your butt cheaks and play abc forever is not my idea of improving.

Hey man,

Just found your blog and I am doing something close myself, it was only a distraction while I waited for my balance to clear iPoker stupidly long withdraw process, but already falling in love with the variant of the game.

Not sure that you really need to play 100k hands at NL5 though as the difference in skill from 5 > 10 is minimal imo. I think if you just use the 20BI and have the disipline to move down then you should just move when your roll allows, or move down if you lose 3-4BI at NL10 for the rest of day play NL5. Of course I understand this is personal preference and this is just my 2c.

Sidenote @ ProlinePoker 9% 3-bet isn't high dude, it's actually pretty standard (You know this is SH right?). And if you are folding KK at micros preflop then you are doing it so very very wrong! That being said, 21 BI in one day definitely shows that you have some major leaks in your game... Calling AI with KK pre isn't one of them though.

If you are still going to play cash games and fancy a sweat session look me up via community tool and I'll give you my Skype ID as PS don't like us posting here now for whatever reason :)

Good luck dude,

MMB

Hey again Verre,

I didn't want to sound rude or something, when you posted what happened to you I just wanted to go straight to the point, what you want to hear is "it's just variance, just redeposit $200 and crush the donks" but I just wanted to be honest with you. You are absolutely right about level-2 and level-3 thinking but something I learned is all that stuff doesn't really matter in the micros, and I have already several thousand hands up to NL25. And one thing that kept me too long in the NL10-NL25 threshold was starting to think that at NL25 I would need to completely change gears in my game.

I was playing ABC (including those "sick" folds of KK pre and bottom sets) and I was killing NL10 at 8bb/100. When I moved up to NL25 I looked at my stats and I realize how straightforward I was: 10/8, 3% 3bet, 1.2% 4bet (AA and KK only, so crystal clear!), the only balanced stats I had was something like 67% and 60% flop and turn cbets. And I thought that now that I was at NL25, I should start "lagging" my game and 3bet and 4bet trash. The result was 100k hands around NL10 and NL25 without any substantial improvement.

Then I realized that I was just complicating my own game. Poker is so simple to play, you just need to play the fish. This obvious concept is sometimes so hard to put in your mind because when you climb the ladder, the reg:fish ration increases, so you think the games are just reg-infested and everyone is overplaying you. Sure that happens sometimes, but in a game like Zoom it's very unlikely, and this applies to zoom only. Do you think an 8-tabling zoom reg will waste his time in a marginal spot with you? He's more likely quick-folding until he finds himself in a pot with fish!! Fish are everywhere, just make sure you focus on getting gross value from them instead of putting yourself in too many marginal EV spots with regs!

Another thing I hope you don't take me wrong is about your tournament skills. I'm not doubting your tournament skills, I also have a 40% ROI in 180mans (small sample size, no more than 1k games I guess) and I know, as you should know too, that you're just running hot. I've made a $500 profit in a stretch of 100 games and also lost $250 in 300 games, so it's just a matter of variance. What I wanted to say to you is that you should have more emotional control. I gave this exact same advice to a friend of mine who was grinding the micros, he ran so hot in MTTs that he made $1k in a couple of weeks, then he just tilted it all playing NL50 HU or $55 MTTs. By then I told him to put some of that $1k apart and grind with a smaller bank, because he also had ego problems. But, he wanted to be a "millionaire" from day to night so right now he's grinding NL2 and freerolls.

I just think it's important to face poker as a business. It's important to let ego aside. You say you're concerned about your winrate but honestly, nowadays, in sites like Stars, any positive winrate is a good winrate. 2bb/100 at NL25 is $500 profit in 100k hands. Well, if you 4-table zoom with 3hrs of play per day you get those 100k in a month. Is $500 a month that bad for 3hr of work per day? In my opinion it is not. Of course it's not a living but I personally don't intend to live from poker, but that's just my personal perspective of the game.

In the end, I just want to stress that I didn't want to upset you or anything. You can even ignore my advice, it's just fine as well because I'm no authority at all. However, when I see a thread like yours I don't mind giving my 2cent, because although I'm far from being an expert, at least I'm someone who never busted a roll before. I play since 2009, with the free $50 I got here, and I never busted it. I've had ups and downs like anyone else but, most importantly, I've never put a single cent of my hard-work money into poker. And it's not hard to do that, as long as you have the correct mindset, emotional control and good management of your bankroll.

Wish you all the luck...

Thanks for the follow up. I make 300 bucks a day at my job so I'm in a bit of a different situation then you I think. I play poker for a challenge and for potential BIG profit. It's just not worth my time to even play 2bb/100 at the micros.

On another note. Your playing that tight at 6 max? I literally have a bigger 3 bet % than your pfr. That's crazy.

Also the tourny rec is over 10k mtts at this point so it's a pretty decent sample.

After last night bankroll is over 1k again.

Yeah but 5 bb/100 4 tabling is better than 2bb/100 8 tabling. You can pay more attention to each hand and take more profitable lines (also more swingy). I prefer that. Guys that play nl200 profitably with large win rates standard deviations are very large. This is just the best way to play if you wanna be a long term success instead of an nl100 rakeback pro (which btw if kinda cool but a ton of work)

I was lurking around in some blogs, and I happened to find yours.

Though I do agree, that passive aggressive ways are not always the best to go, I've had many passive agressive posts aimed at me through the years. It may sometimes sound harsch but, it all comes down to that sugar coating something isnt gonna be good for anyone. If someone puts something nicely, you're less likely to react/care as much about it or get provoked into thinking about it on your own.

As to your "its useless for me to play 2bb/100 at the micros"-rant. Well errrr, yes. It probably is so. But what I failed to understand until I moved up the limits is that all that matters in the microstakes is gaining experience and learning. You'll never get away from the fact that you need experience, and lots of it, to get up to the stakes that matter. I wouldnt be too concerned with the wr in the micros, since it all comes down to how much you've learned. And to be honest, the one thing thats probably the most important: dealing with emotional control.

I always used to be (and still am, cant deny that, but nowadays a much less) very emotional person. Oh boy have I been through rough times. Cant even count on 2 hands how many times I've lied to myself to justify some of my behaviours. Someone made me realize that, there are no excuses. And I shouldnt even try to make them.

Hmpf, this turned into a very unstructured post and im not even sure I follow myself anymore, but please bare with me

I do however also agree with ProlinePoker about most of what he wrote. I noticed you said you "come across as a lagro" or whatever. I now play NL100 FR for quite a while and I have to say, not even there people care much (ofc, I play quite soft tables, but still). People might KNOW or see that you seem like a lagro but honestly... not many people care to adjust. I even do it myself. I have sessions where I care, and I really should care more, but I always end up not doing anything about it.

I also fold bottom sets, KK and most of all: QQ and AK preflop, aaaall the time. I'm not saying its always the best option, but in the majority of the cases, it is. Even if I might win a bit of money one of the times I go ahead, be sure that I would lose alot more the other times.

Not sure if any of this made any sense, I just wanted to offer some insight. I hope it helped, and that you don't feel offended, if so, I apologize :)

Regards,
vonki

nice posts guys :f_biggrin:

some of my own fullring zoom insight:

QQ and AK should be folded all the time, and it shouldn't even be hard i may add
KK is a very interesting case. look at this, all the KK that i managed to ship preflop when i didn't know better (all stakes):

Spoiler

sample size? very possible.
but there is a point: a lot of people's stacking off ranges in most spots is only KK+ and sometimes it is possible to guess that. it's up to you to evaluate their play, relative positions, etc

Yes vonki I agree with your whole post. One thing I've been really good about not doing is lie to myself. I know my weaknesses very well. What I'm not so good at is go about fixing them.

Also I understand these folds playing nits in a fr game. I don't play FR, and further most part most villains have a Vpip between 20-35. Folding bottom set or kings pre is IMO not possible.

With that said I have avoided cash games except for 2 sessions the other day where I only won at 5.2bb/100 over 1000ish hands.

I've been playing tournents and I've turne 100 bucks 2 weeks ago into 1150 today and currently deep in the big 11 and 5k 2 dollar. Even if I go back to cash at this point it will be at the minimum nl10.

Lol yup that's me. It works well tbh but it's swingy. I honestly enjoy it but I think something to do with forcing myself to play everyday even when I don't feel like it holds me back.

I have had a full tourny day today. I've played about 20 with 2 deep runs and 6 cashes but I've taken the short end of the stick in some big preflop battles when it comes to suckouts. I was deep in the Big 11 and a shortstack pushed and I shoved with AKs. Another guy who covered me called behind and also had AKs. Needless to say I was freerolled.

In an Omaha tourny I 4 bet pre with AAKTs. Flop was AT2. Guy shoves on me and I snap call. He shows TT34. Turns a 5. I bubble.

Aside from that the days going alright I've made a little profit but the big score is still alluding me.

Lol well I didn't get to keep the full 500. My buddy and I had a grind day and we had 20% of each other so I had to cough up 100 to him. That's ok though the rolls at 1.4k now.

I did play 1 hand of nl10 as well. Dealt 1 hand and in the BB I got KK. MP who has history with me and has a high 4 bet opens to .40. Small stack shoves for 1.80. I smooth. MP tank shoves and I call. AA vs KK vs T9. Obviously results T9>AA>KK. That's ok though clearly micro stakes 6 max cash hates my soul.

To another final table tomorrow!

Today was a bad day. Not so much because of the poker aspect but more in the real life department.

The wife is 12 days overdue and everyone's starting to get concerned. We spent all day in the hospital today and we will probubly spend all day there tomorrow. They are trying to enduce her but no success thus far.

With that said I played a grand total of 3 tournaments and won .50 in 6 max zoom. All where played on my iPhone so there was no HUD and chip graphics are all the same and sooooo tilting. Anyways ran deepish in one, top 100 out of 3k plus but it was a small score so nothing to write home about.

It's a shame that the final table streak of 3 days is over but when rl strikes there isn't much that can be done. Wish my wife luck tomorrow! I'm ready to be a poppa already!

Just took a heartbreaking beat at a the second to last table of a 8 max tourny.

With 13 left I was in 6th in chips and I was dealt TT on the BU. A terrible player who had a few chips more than me minraised and I decided the best play was to shove with my 21bb. He snap called A9o. A on the flop.

Its standard but still so sick. Woulda put me in second in chips and in great position to take it down. Instead I get 30 bucks and a kick in the balls. Oh well, thats definately the way she goes. Nothing else to talk about, I'm down maybe 40 bucks in the last 2 days but haven't been playing frequently.
