Poker taxes in England

Couple of months ago I've heard something on the radio about government's proposal to tax sports betting, but after all they said it's a bad idea because it would give the main operators monopoly and it would create grey area for illegal tax-free betting.
So hopefully nothing will change any time soon

I'm starting to wonder if I'm living in a different England from the one that everyone seems to love! Having lived in London for nine years at one stage I can only add to what others have said that anything around W1, W2 etc will cost you shitloads in rent. Personally I'd suggest something out a bit near Edgeware Road so you're near the Casino there which has some good live games, or even forget London and move to Nottingham to be near the Dusk To Dawn club which is a much cheaper option rent wise and probably the best Poker action in the UK.

Well, everyone hassles "the North" but I think Sheffield is very nice, with lots of parks and trees and pubs with names like 'The Robin Hood', and next door to beautiful areas such as the Peak District - you probably need a car, but who doesn't, and the rent's got to be lower than in London. And Gloucestershire might be worth looking at. As a poker player you can surely just pick a decent place with affordable rent and make occasional trips into London when you feel like dumping all your winnings on one so-so restaurant meal.

I'd actually be quite interested to see Latvia, though - do they still play a lot of chess there? There used to be something called the "Latvian Gambit", involving giving up three or four pawns and launching a suicidal attack on the King that just might be non-crazy enough to work.
