Hello all,
My names Verre and I have been a completely unsuccessful online poker play for years. I have started multiple blogs before, all of which crashed and burned. This was mostly due to me posting a massive amount of posts with no substance and with nothing interesting in them. I would also flip flop games at the first sign of a downswing which kept people from ever wanting to read my thoughts.
I promised myself I would never start another blog again unless I found a game I was going to stick with. To be honest I am not enthused about starting this blog right now! But I seriously need to keep track of my goals and I really want to give back to this community because it has provided me with so many hours of entertainment.
On to myself. I live in Canada near Vancouver. I love it here. My family is here, my friends are here, and I never plan on leaving. Downside is everything is expensive. Living costs are higher here than 99% of the world (literally, check living costs around the world).
Luckily for me I have a good job. I work in the railyard and help move cargo around the country. I dont "love" my job as I dont live to work, I work to live but the job is good for what it is. A job. I tend to work 48 hours a week on average and so this takes up a good amount of my time. More on that, it takes up a lot of my time in sleep. Its a very dangerous job and so I make sure I keep my sleep schedual on the higher side to keep myself from having a tired complacent moment on the job. This tends to end up in accidents and deaths on the railroad.
I am married to a lovely woman, and we have a 2 month old daugher. They are the love of my life and most of what I do is for them. We have a great home, but may have to sell and buy something bigger in 3-4 years if we have more children.
Anyways in my last failed blog, I was playing MTTs and even though I was winning I felt my blog was dead and never posted. MTTs posed a huge issue for me because I never have time to sit down for more than 2-3 hours at a time. This kept me from putting volume in. Also when my child was born I had to take time off work. This put pressure on my finances. I cashed out $1500 of my 2k roll at this point. I donked around and ended up with about $250. I realized I was donking off my money and cashed out everything but $30. I then proceeded to donk off $20 of that.
Now comes the turnaround. Dec 28. I had $10 in my account. I should have taken a screenshot but I literally had no idea this would progress. I had 0 fpps, 0 tourny dollars, and no prospects. As I said before I have been a game jumper since I started playing poker. I've played everything, mostly unsuccessfully. The only game I've made profit in is MTTs. I was scanning over the lobby and saw CAP poker. I forgot all about it! I knew it from before but never played it because the smallest stakes is NL50. But I had $10! This was enough for 1 buying! And I'm good with a 20bb stack. I have so much experience in tournaments.
So anyways I one tabled. I won a bit. Then I studdied. I downloaded poker stove. I knew I had to gain a large edge over my opponents if I was going to beat this game with a small roll. I studied preflop 3 and 4 betting against certain ranges. I studied much more than that. I watched the CAP vids on here. I looked at my own small sample of HH.
My new year started on Dec 28/12 when I started my grind. My goals started to develope in my mind. I had a certain way I wanted to present this blog. I dont plan on having many followers to start for a few reasons. One is that CAP poker is not very popular atm. What I love about it is that it promotes action. Money is getting into the middle quite easily. You also create a lot of rake. If you break even you will earn good rakeback. The other reason I dont believe this blog will have many followers at first is that I will not be posting graphs under 50k hands. I believe anything less than 50k hands isn't a reliable sample for any high variance game (some would argue 50k isn't good enough either, but I need to post something).
So my goals need to be posted. I will be posting monthly goals, half year goals, and yearly goals.
Monthly Goals
[] Earn Platinum Status on Pokerstars
I understand this will be difficult for myself. I started playing 1 table a few days back. I'm up to 6-8 tables at a time now.
[] Start Playing 10+ tables
[] Work on my note taking
[] Work on my table selecting
[] Dont go broke (Still not properly rolled by any means)
6 Month Goals
[] Start playing NL100.
I dont perticularily like this goal as its somewhat of a profit goal. I will start taking shots when I have 50-60 bis for the stake.
Yearly Goals
[] Earn Supernova!
I have never earned more than 30k VPPs in one year. This is mostly due to the fact that I never stuck with a game. I say mostly because there is also my laziness. I have this fear of starting a session in case something bad happens. Its this funny stomache feeling. It tends to go away when I start the session, but this in the past has kept me from putting in volume. I want that to be dealt with.
This is hopefully a first step to a second income. I hope you enjoyed the read and I hope you will enjoy this blog. The plan is to have more substance and less crap than my last blogs so hopefully I can follow through.
This seems like such a daunting level but its really only one level jump
