No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t1400.00/t2800.00 Blinds - 8 players

UTG: t130464.00 46.59 BBs
UTG+1: t135610.00 48.43 BBs
MP1: t12036.00 4.30 BBs
MP2: t245101.00 87.54 BBs
CO: t33539.00 11.98 BBs
BTN: t97127.00 34.69 BBs
SB: t99842.00 35.66 BBs
Hero (BB): t59296.00 21.18 BBs

Pre Flop: (t4200) Hero is BB with 8 :diamond: T :diamond:
1 fold, UTG+1 raises to t5600, 5 folds, Hero calls t2800

Flop: (t12600) 8 :spade: Q :spade: Q  (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG+1 checks

Turn: (t12600) 4 :club: (2 players)
Hero bets t6455.00, UTG+1 calls t6455

River: (t25510) 9 :diamond: (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG+1 bets t123205.00, Hero  (47000 to call)

I definitely should have folded preflop, that's for sure.
Villain: 35/24/5.7 AF: 2.5 cbet 50% 233 h
He is using non-consistent lines allt he times. I have seen him pot controlling with a JJ (as an overpair on the board) IP and I've also seen him to potbet on J 7 3 (no FD) multiwy with AJ. So sometimes he play his hands slow sometimes not. Having called preflop (unfortunately) what do you suggest postflop? River?

I would not fold T8s against min-raise (although this might not be + EV, I get very good pot odds and if I´m confident my postflop skills then)
You can bet turn, although I think c/c is a little better option.
Firstly you don´t get any value besides Ax hands and likely you then should bet twice to represent missed draws.
Second: he may go on delayed c-bet with air and
third: utg would usually not check on QQ8 board, so he may be trapping or have there 99-JJ that is ahead your hand

I would bet 12k on the river and fold to shove. Since you checked I think fold is fine- not too many players would shove Ax hands (or maybe none) and if he is spewy you should find better pre-flop spot to double up.

best regards,

I think you are right, turn c/c is better. If he had something that has value he's most likely to cbet it.

On the other hand I just don't really get the river bet. It makes our hand easier to play, that's for sure. But are we betting here for value, or as a bluff, what's the aim of our bet? Because we can't bet as a bluff, since he's not foldin better, like better 8x, or TT, something. And if we cannot bet on the turn, why can bet on the river (not really either for value)?

merge
we r beting river cos villain can hero call with Ax,22-77 and stuff
and for keeping our range balanced when we bet busted draws or stuff as bluff

so u have 2 options imo ch flop - bet turn - bet fold river
or
ch flop - ch/c turn - ch/c river

imo mixing this 2 lines (as u do) makes ur hand harder to play

Ah, I see. I would expect him to cbet with any pp and rarely to herocall with A high, but now I get the concept.

Hi all,

Call preflop, check/call turn as played, check/fold river as played IMO, it's a card that hits your range pretty hard and I don't think he will bluff it very often.

Vs this tricky player I don't think we have enough equity to bet the river, even though it does make our decision a lot easier.
