:f_love: I plan on making a video for January about goal setting in the new year, specifically for SNG players. A little cliche to make it a New Years resolution type thing, but I want to make it more than that...something to kick everyone into high gear...
Had a piss poor day today, mentally and psychologically and anatomically. I started off the day on fire and was promptly doom switched for about four hours straight. It's crazy that after all these years I can still have those days where it seems like emotionally, it isn't possible to control the triggers that cause tilt, anger, etc. I would say one skill I possess in spades is the ability to bounce back. I rarely hold on to anger for more than a few minutes after a session, although today was an except where I had some lingering angst for about an hour. I will wake up tomorrow and have a renewed spirit, best believe that!
When I got home from playing today the last thing I wanted to do was sit around the house so I went to the gym and blew off some steam and then ate a burrito. That probably canceled itself out but it still felt good :>

Find it hard to believe you are capable of tilt. Is there a calmer video voice than yours?

Haha, I do have a cigarette occasionally after going to the gym.

All jokes aside though, I am usually pretty good but long stretches (weeks -> months) wear on me as I imagine they do most people.
I had a good day yesterday, I was hovering around break even for most of the afternoon and went on a nice heater. My last two games of the day were two $200s where I got it in with 99 vs 85o preflop and lost and then QQ on 822 vs 89o and lost as well. Relatively demoralizing but I am keeping my head up. It always comes with the territory when you are mixing buy ins. It leads to a lot more volatility than your average buy in may suggest.
Braminc inspired me to make an Excel sheet that calculates volume goals for the month and the year (see my New Years Resolutions video for more details on my grand plans for 2013).
Continuing on my career story..
When Braminc and I started working together, he taught me how to study and started isolating obvious flaws in my game. Before this, I never really knew how to study. I would use SNG Wizard and plug hands in, but in terms of determining ranges from specific opponents I was relatively clueless. Sprung from this is my current teaching style where I always emphasize profiling opponents to adjust your course of action. How you are going to play fish one (never folds, overreps/underreps hands) vs fish two (super passive, big folder) vs reg one (too ABC) to reg two (balanced, thinking, out of the box) is really the key to developing a game that is well-rounded and profitable.
We would two or so lessons a week for several months while I moved up from the 10s and 20s to the 100s. I remember when I started in on the 36s I entered God mode and won about 10k in a month. This made a world of difference for my confidence and confidence is key when you are trying to become your own player. It wasn't all easy though...I was unable to control tilt...this was the first time I would experience swings of around 1k and for a novice "pro" it was tough to handle. It would be funny if Braminc could dig up some old emails I would send him on a daily basis. They all sound something like:
"I can't take it anymore! All these terrible twats get it in with the worst hand behind my range and hit FUCK!!"
I'm happy he stuck it out with me and I got through it. It is still embarassing how much I tilt these days (which isn't much) for someone who has been playing for five years. For any Princess Bride fans out there, there are two things that I've learned:
1) Never engage in a land war in Asia and
2) You never get used to bad runs in poker
Stepping aside from the career rambling for a minute, I have been very happy with how I have started 2013. I have run significantly under EV but am playing very focused and with purpose. Been playing mostly 100s and 200s, HU and six max.

i've really been hitting the tables hard in January. i have been looking at hands, doing equity calcs, tweaking charts, focusing, etc. it paid off the last few days when i put up some monster results. since this is a superstition free blog, i shall post a graph...don't do it often but hey why not. i also reached the 1,200 games i was shooting for so I am on pace for 14,400 games this year. i just realized february is three days shorter than average AND i am taking a five day vacation to california so i will really have to step it up to stay on pace for 2013.
2) You never get used to bad runs in poker
I'm running 170BI Below EV @ NL SH games... I'm pretty much used to it.
