Small update

Finally made gold status again feel like its been long overdue

Decided to give nl10 zoom another shot and have a really good go this time:

Watched some vids on zoom which were very helpful and also attended plenos coaching which was pre sick!

anywayz, first 4kish hands:

Still alot of work to do, but im quietly confident i can gain a decent winrate over a decent sample as so far ive made quite a few errors and had some setups/coolers.

January review

Started off january trying to master zoom nl5/10, watched all of manu's videos and then attended some of plenos coachings, but things didnt really work out how id hoped, so decided to change my mind yet again and jump straight back to the normal tables, heres the result.

Fairly happy with the results, ran into a few coolers here and there but nowt i can do about that, winrate could be higher but im still making fairly big mistakes in some big pots, will post a few hands now im unsure about.

Hand 1 - Villian was 45/0 over 35 hands

Poker Stars, $0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 5 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

BTN: $8.94 (89.4 bb)
SB: $10.91 (109.1 bb)
BB: $4.75 (47.5 bb)
MP: $4.82 (48.2 bb)
Hero (CO): $10.10 (101 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with A K
MP folds, Hero raises to $0.30, BTN folds, SB calls $0.25, BB folds

Flop: ($0.70) A 2 5 (2 players)
SB bets $0.90, Hero calls $0.90

Turn: ($2.50) 4 (2 players)
SB bets $2.20, Hero calls $2.20

River: ($6.90) 3 (2 players)
SB bets $7.51 and is all-in, Hero calls $6.70

Results:

Spoiler

$20.30 pot ($0.91 rake)
Final Board: A 2 5 4 3
SB showed A 6 and won $19.39 ($9.29 net)
Hero showed A K and lost (-$10.10 net)

Really unsure what to do on the river, maybe an argument for re-raising flop or turn, but i figure im ahead and dont want him to fold any bluffs, or random junk like maybe 5x etc. River im calling just to split, but im wondering if he is only shoving 6x here, after discussions on skype im still not sure but i think the right play would be to fold river.

Hand 2 - Villian is 24/4 over 167 hands, 3bet 3.8

Poker Stars, $0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

UTG: $13.20 (132 bb)
Hero (MP): $18.80 (188 bb)
CO: $11.09 (110.9 bb)
BTN: $4 (40 bb)
SB: $11.77 (117.7 bb)
BB: $7.11 (71.1 bb)

Preflop: Hero is MP with Q Q
UTG folds, Hero raises to $0.30, 3 folds, BB calls $0.20

Flop: ($0.65) 7 9 4 (2 players)
BB bets $0.10, Hero raises to $0.60, BB raises to $1.10, Hero raises to $18.50, BB calls $5.71

Turn: ($14.27) J (2 players)
River: ($14.27) 6 (2 players)

Results:

Spoiler

$14.27 pot ($0.64 rake)
Final Board: 7 9 4 J 6
Hero showed Q Q and lost (-$7.11 net)
BB showed 9 9 and won $13.63 ($6.52 net)

Thought process here was that preflop he can be calling very wide, when he donks flop, i think he can do this with all 9x, some 7x, 56s, sets, FDs, 8T, so i think i can raise for value, when he re-raises me, i now realise this is screaming strength, and i think in the moment i got confused as to what range he does this with, and so just shoved. Looking back i think its a fold on flop once he re-raises me, is he ever re-raising a draw?

Hand 3 - MP 15/13 over 601 hands, BB 57/7 over 68 hands

Poker Stars, $0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

MP: $15.60 (156 bb)
CO: $4 (40 bb)
BTN: $8.07 (80.7 bb)
Hero (SB): $29.71 (297.1 bb)
BB: $9.40 (94 bb)
UTG: $4.41 (44.1 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A K
UTG folds, MP raises to $0.40, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.35, BB calls $0.30

Flop: ($1.20) K 2 9 (3 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, MP checks

Turn: ($1.20) 2 (3 players)
Hero bets $0.80, BB calls $0.80, MP calls $0.80

River: ($3.60) A (3 players)
Hero bets $2.10, BB raises to $4.20, MP folds, Hero calls $2.10

Results:

Spoiler

$12.00 pot ($0.54 rake)
Final Board: K 2 9 2 A
MP mucked and lost (-$1.20 net)
Hero mucked A K and lost (-$5.40 net)
BB showed 2 K and won $11.46 ($6.06 net)

Thinking here is that i dont 3bet preflop because i want the fish to get involved in the BB, looking back here, i think donking flop maybe a good option, as i can easily be called by worse from the fish, hopefully folding out the reg/nit. As played, i expect the fish to be calling worse Kx, FDs, 9x. Not really sure about the regs range on the turn, i would say more towards decent Kx and FDs. River is one of them ugly spots where i think i should fold, but some times he could be raising worse, but very small amount of the time. fold river?

i would call hand #1 as well. As it is fish, then he might be shoving with 2-pair without understanding that there is a straight. Against reg, it is fold.

#2 is as you said, easy fold after he reraised you.

#3
i am not sure you want many players to see the flop with unmade hand. On flop you defo need to start protecting your hand. btw, why do you think river is ugly?

Hey,

River is not an ugly card, was just meaning when he minraises me its ugly, because usually when fish minraise they usually have you beat, especially on the river, and i think your right about protecting on the flop, probably should of donked :)

Decided to give have a shot at nl16 since i seem to be doing decent on nl10, first 4k hands:

As you can see its not gone too well, and im kinda getting destroyed with by my non-showdown winnings, altho was playing with a maniac fish earlier and he was 5x preflop every hand and barrelling alot, and i missed loadsa flops vs him, probs played badly for some of the time aswell, but onwards and upwards!

Beddddddd time up at 7 :f_zZz:

Last graph included my previous shot at nl16 a few months ago, so this is an updated graph with just this months shot:

Not overjoyed at the results but i cant really be unhappy that im not losing too much, kinda frustrating 5k breakeven stretch but hey that happens!

Kinda wierd moving up, having to get used to the unusual bet sizings, and altho their are plenty of fish, the fish for some reason seem much less willing to put their money in the middle, or for example they are limping, but then playing with 'reg-ish' stats, or maybe they just havnt had a hand against me wen ive had one, since its still just a small sample. Also ran KK into AA which didnt help.

Going to continue my shot for now, but i definitely realise for this limit i may have to study more.

Thanks ras im sure you will be moving up soon!

As for my shot, its still pretty much BE lol, played about 7k hands so far, still getting used to nl16 seems very difficult. fish seem unwilling to pay me off, players with reg-ish stats limping preflop, so i mark them as fish when they may actually not be.

Will play some more hands later on tonight and then update, probably post some hands aswell, decided im going to start reviewing my sessions alot more now, so hopefully be posting alot of hands. :)

Was planning on posting a review of a few hands last nite, until the 2nd to last hand of the session, this happened:

Poker Stars, $0.08/$0.16 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

CO: $26.71 (166.9 bb)
BTN: $16.89 (105.6 bb)
SB: $27.74 (173.4 bb)
BB: $16.21 (101.3 bb)
Hero (UTG): $17.28 (108 bb)
MP: $16 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with A A
Hero raises to $0.48, MP folds, CO raises to $1.44, 3 folds, Hero raises to $3.36, CO calls $1.92

Flop: ($6.96) T 2 2 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO checks

Turn: ($6.96) 7 (2 players)
Hero bets $4.48, CO calls $4.48

River: ($15.92) K (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $9.44, Hero calls $9.44 and is all-in

Results:

Spoiler

$34.80 pot ($1.50 rake)
Final Board: T 2 2 7 K
CO showed T T and won $33.30 ($16.02 net)
Hero mucked A A and lost (-$17.28 net)

Villian here was 37/29 3bet of 10 over only 50 hands

Dont think i played this hand well at all, i was planning on c/shoving flop, trying to let any of his AK/AQs hands fire flop when i check, then i can just shove over, also i think with this line he wont fold any JJ/QQ.

When he checks back turn, looking back i think he can have AK/AQs that didnt fire, or TT. Possibly JJ for pot control?.. Turn when he calls im not really sure AK/AQs would float, possibly JJ/TT. River comes a K, and when he puts me AI i kinda convinced myself he cann do this with AK sometimes, but now im not too sure, JJ/QQ doesnt shove river imo, so i guess its an unlikely AK or TT looking back????

Would a better line just be to cbet 1/2 pot? What do i then do if turn is a K,J,Q?

Other hands:

Poker Stars, $0.08/$0.16 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 4 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

BB: $13.61 (85.1 bb)
CO: $8.73 (54.6 bb)
Hero (BTN): $16.36 (102.3 bb)
SB: $16.67 (104.2 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with Q Q
CO raises to $0.32, Hero raises to $0.96, 2 folds, CO calls $0.64

Flop: ($2.16) 5 9 3 (2 players)
CO checks, Hero bets $1.28, CO calls $1.28

Turn: ($4.72) J (2 players)
CO checks, Hero bets $13.60, CO calls $6.49 and is all-in

River: ($17.70) 2 (2 players, 1 is all-in)

Results:

Spoiler

$17.70 pot ($0.80 rake)
Final Board: 5 9 3 J 2
CO showed 5 A and won $16.90 ($8.17 net)
Hero showed Q Q and won $0.00 (-$8.73 net)

Villian in this hand was fish, when he calls flop, i think he can have A9,K9,Q9,J9, FDs, Possibly 67/78, A5,K5, random AK/AQ floats, 66/77/88. Turn completes FD, but im still thinking possibly A9/K9/Q9/J9 will not fold, random Jx floats like AJ/KJ/QJ not dont fold however they're more unlikely, and any hand with a decent-ish club, for example AcKx, AcQx,KcAx, possibly 8c8x, 7c7x,6c6x. Kc9x,Ac9x,Qc9x,Jc9x. which is why i decide to shove for max value, because im thinking i dont want to see another club on the river. How is my thought process? and does my thought process justify shoving the turn, or am i way off (please feel free to tell me if that is the case) :)

Poker Stars, $0.08/$0.16 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

BB: $20.90 (130.6 bb)
UTG: $16 (100 bb)
MP: $34.52 (215.8 bb)
Hero (CO): $16 (100 bb)
BTN: $23.48 (146.8 bb)
SB: $25.55 (159.7 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with A A
UTG folds, MP calls $0.16, Hero raises to $0.64, 3 folds, MP calls $0.48

Flop: ($1.52) 6 Q 5 (2 players)
MP checks, Hero bets $0.80, MP calls $0.80

Turn: ($3.12) 4 (2 players)
MP checks, Hero bets $2.08, MP raises to $4.32, Hero calls $2.24

River: ($11.76) 2 (2 players)
MP bets $7.68, Hero folds

Results:

Spoiler

$11.76 pot ($0.53 rake)
Final Board: 6 Q 5 4 2
MP mucked and won $11.23 ($5.47 net)
Hero mucked A A and lost (-$5.76 net)

This hand villian is a 76/57 fish over 102 hands, 3bet 32, fold to cbet 20

Im betting flop for value vs Qx,PPs,6x78,34,89,23. Turn brings in the SD, but i think i can still be for value vs his range, when he raises, im not sure now what his raising range is, since he is by the looks of things an agro fish, however i dont think he raises Qx, he may raise Q4, any Q5/Q6 he didnt raise on flop because he feels board became much scarier, possibly 78, 23. Possibly a FD/Pair + FD/Qx + FD. Looking at this hand, i failed to plan for the river, if he was raising me with a draw, if the FD comes in i have to fold/he may bluff river if it misses since he seems agro. Thus meaning im folding river anyway i think, so im thinking i should just fold turn?

Feedback on the hands would be much appreciated, anywayz time for a session

Hi

About first hand(AA) have you considered adding to your hud statistic 'donk flop'? I'm not sure it could have helped you in this case(due to small sample size) but you should be confident about villain donking when you plan to check on flop. Giving free card with 1 pair is risky. 2ndly cbets on flop are natural and you shouldn't be so worried about opponent folding.
I just have been beaten up SO many times with my pocket AA while slowplaying that i promised myself never to do that any more :f_cry:

2nd hand(QQ). Overbet on turn is so wrong move. What exactly are you trying to rep there? A :club:K :club:/A :club:Q :club:(considering your preflop)? If yes, then why do you want your opponent to fold? Anyway, everything that you beat fold and everything that beat you, will call you.

3rd hand(AA). I have a sticker taped to my screen which says: "minraise on turn ==> NUTS".
You were playing the hand out strong and i'm sure villain did put you on a strong pair. It is easy to fold 1-pair hands there unless you have notes villain bluffing like that. It would be perfect spot for calling that minraise when both of your whole cards are  .
Ohh, and try out statistics - WTSD and WSD. Gives you pretty good idea about villains going to showdown with garbage hands and bluffs.

Hey,

Would this stat be the same as 'bet when checked to' or are they different?

Hand 1: Looking back i think youre right i should cbet here, if i cbet and assume hes calling flop with a range of TT/JJ/QQ, possibly an AK float, what should i do on turn is turn is a J,Q or K. Bet/fold im thinking? but what if he doesnt raise, c/fold river?

hand 2: At the time i was thinking i want to get value from hands with 1 club, like Ac9x, Ac5x, random AcKx,AxKc, type hands, but now i think im actually more likely to be isolating myself against made flushes, bad thought process from my part i think.

Hand 3: I need this sticker! haha :) Yeh i think your right i should have folded turn, since i was always folding to a river bet, was hoping he didnt bet river, but i think most of the range that he min-raises turn with, bets river, so im burning money by calling the min-raise.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Definition of 'donk bet' would be smt like that:
There’s a term in poker called the ‘Donk ‘ bet. This pertains to when someone out of place calls your pre-flop raise and then leads into you with a bet on the flop.

Key word here is that you were the preflop agressor and villain takes initiative on flop.

Although it does suggest that villain has to be OOP, so i am not sure it applies to your sittuation.

Confused now :f_confused:

Donk flop - the person doing it is out of position and without initiative (is not a preflop agressor) and leads out with betting into preflop agressor.

Bet when checked to = "bet in position" stat in Holdem manager or "Float bet" stat in PokerTracker. The person doing it is in position without initiative. Person bets when the preflop agressor checks to him/her.

Ahh thankyou!

So looks like 'bet when checked to' would be a more suitable stat here since im OOP im thinking, although this is a 4bet pot, which will again change this stat, and im hardly ever going to have a sufficient sample to use this stat in 4bet pots.

Cheers guys makes sense now! :)

February Review

Ended up BE at nl16 over about 7k hands this month, so decided to drop back down to nl10 for a bit, basically got bored of just BE and riding variance.

Not overly happy with my volume this month however fairly happy with the results!

Im running well, but i feel like the shot at nl16 has improved my game at nl10 which is great.

Not normally one for setting goals usually, BUT im going to set myself the goal of gaining platinum status using the new promotion for march, think i need to gain 180 VPPs per day, for 20 days in march, not sure how attainable that will be at nl10, but ill find out soon enough

Might struggle to achieve this goal as i have 2 assignments in for uni this week, but after that i may still have 20 days left, just have to wait and see i suppose :)
