I am taking some time to reconsider my options, more on that later...

Mineriva, I am in Nottingham for few days to meet up some of the zimmers :f_love:
last night had my first taste of live poker, rigged, fun and a you say a different kind of thing altogether! I might try a cash game tonight... :f_o:

Thanks Mal  it seems after my break from poker I forgot how to play.that together with my lack of experience with live games brought me back to my original fish state. I find it hard to bluff, for example. However, they are really scared of me for some reason I still don't get. I check, they fold. I bet, they fold. I am about to fold, they fold out of turn... :f_confused:

Last night was quite enjoyable. I was at a fun table during the tourney...cash was something else though. I ended up at a table of mostly strong and well seasoned regs. I managed to leave the table, only £3 down after tipping the dealer, so it was ok. But it didn't feel any different to the Monday mornings at pokerstars...

...which not necessarily is the standard of play. Sat at a table last night which wasn't that fun...for me as i was to the right of three youngsters you want to have position on. That seat went to Tim who duly proceeded to cash as much as he could :]

I still haven't refound my mojo, and knowing what to do last night but not doing it only makes me think that once scared money, always scared money. Will a break help, or should i just leave it and crochet my way to happiness?

Something i did like about live play was that, for a change, people were nice to each other at the table in general, and by the end of last night I started to feel more comfortable. I have to say that even when winning at the micros, i found it tough to jump so many levels, so quickly while at the same time playing live which i am not used to. I haven't put aside a bankroll before. What i have was made from a small amount God knows how (may be just all rakeback???) . I feel guilty about using money outside of my bankroll for this, in particular with all the self-doubt i am experiencing at the moment...

A crochet hook and a chair please.

I can't help since I haven't played live much and having Romanello [whom I didn't know at the time] on my left, made for an extremely short excursion.

I did like sitting with people who would chat nicely about all sorts of things, unlike the silent assassins online.

So not true.

Watch one of the Pleno1 Wednesday coachings - I think that they are all recorded now. Listen to how he thinks.

Pick one or two scenarios in which you see opportunity.
Take notes about the elements of the situation:
eg, raise from BTN fishies in SB both call and one of them donks Kxx flop.
3Bet/Fold.

If I remember correctly you switched to SnGs recently, didn't you.

If anything will sap your morale as quickly as they can, I've yet to see it.

Chin up.

All the best...

Well, who said it was the last time Nottingham was seeing the likes of me :f_cool: May be it was good to play it safe, didn't want to give you a bad first impression

Borisian was very kind to go and wait for me at the station when I arrived. I don't think we needed any sign really, as soon as we saw each other we knew who we were! Then we walked to the hotel, I checked-in, and we went for a cup of tea. Later we went to play the beginner's tournament (£10 buyin) at DTD. I will post my strictly poker impressions/hands played during the weekend in another post.

On Friday we all met at 5pm on the lounge of the hotel, Tim who had arrived that day, JB and Borisian, and we went to a nice old pub for a pint and something to eat. After failing to find a decent casino, JB drove us all to DTD and we played the £50 buy-in. They were finished by the second break and they started to play cash. I went out later, then play some cash for an hour or so, after that we left and went back to our respective places.

On Saturday, unfortunately JB couldn't make it. We arranged to meet up with Borisian at DTD later to play cash, and we went for a pitta with Tim. He obviously has a nose for good food (he IS a fuzzy eater!) and after some walking around he found a nice place. Food was great, and we had a nice chat about poker and life. We met Borisian at DTD but this time we only play cash. Results not good for Borisian nor me, but good for Tim :)

Meeting you guys was really great. You were all so patient waiting for me to get to the point (I love talking in circles, as Borisian says). Pokering wise, obviously I would have loved it if we all ended up in profit, as I feel your losses as mine too in a way, but your wins mine too (next trip is on Tim :f_biggrin: ). Thanks so much to all of you for being so nice, and so friendly. I felt among friends, it was fun, and you are all such a nice bunch of guys.

:f_love: :f_love: :f_love:

(by the way, we are playing the zimmers this Thursday!)

Pokering wise, I went to Nottingham because I had planned it, but it was after my break from poker, which I thought it would be for good. So it was weird in a way, as my motivation/focus was not the same as if I was in the full swing of things.

The ambiance at DTD was good. I felt at home in a way. It just felt right to be among that kind of people. Somehow similar feeling to the one I had when I was studying at uni, of being among people you have things in common with. Who knows. May be now I might find the motivation to not give up. And the guys still need to try my Argentinian drink...maybe I cannot give up just yet...

Time will tell. At the moment, I will be on a break. Sun is shinning and there is gardening to be done.

I need to win some moolah to get to one of these outings it seems. :(

Have fun while the sun lasts gardening at least. :)

Oh dear. Can't remember ever having a sunny day, lol.

Zimmers: I am so sorry, I completely forgot about last night. I didn't even notice it was Thursday  I was too busy finding patterns to try my hand at filet crochet... :f_cool:

Pokering: taking it super-easy. I haven't played any 6max since my return from Nottingham. However I did have my tiny hours of 6max cash...and zoom...and I moved up to 25NL with zoom :f_eek:

I am not sure what will be of my tourneys...I am thinking about it. Maybe a cleverer way to go is to try my hand at normal speed...I will see. For the moment I am playing low volume deep stacked cash and concentrating in sorting out my game again.

I can see clearly how my game deteriorated after having a downswing. During the last coaching with Tim, we went over hands I could not believe how much my play sucked. Things I know so much better...The dynamics is very clear: good game, bad run, self-doubt, bad game. Maybe I am not made of the same steel Tim is made of :f_rolleyes: I might be able to withstand cash game downswings better than tourneys downswings...or not

In any case: I thought I was done with poker, but not I am not. But I am not going for crazy volume I think. Too much knitting to be done. May be I can climb up the levels just playing 2 tables, a couple of hours a day...why not. I could be more aggressive with my bankroll management, for example...I don't think I need 1m buy-ins to go to the next level if I am only playing a couple of tables...

And I am cashing out my bwin account. I didn't get to play much with it. Software is pretty annoying when it comes to enter bet sizes, and after the last news that they are segregating players account, I don't see the appeal of playing there anymore. So back to old pokerstars :f_love:

I was going to talk a little about the hands played live at DTD. However, I think I will just leave it. Nothing of much interest really...a positive thing I like about live poker, that the plays stay vivid in my head, and the mistakes are so present that I doubt I will make them again in a long, long time. I also like I am forced to not be dressed as a farmer

Oh, and last night I watched adaptation on film4. Nice quotes for someone going through a midlife crisis. In particular I found this dialogue very nice/wise (two twin brothers talking):

Charlie Kaufman: There was this time in high school. I was watching you out the library window. You were talking to Sarah Marsh.

Donald Kaufman: Oh, God. I was so in love with her.

Charlie Kaufman: I know. And you were flirting with her. And she was being really sweet to you.

Donald Kaufman: I remember that.

Charlie Kaufman: Then, when you walked away, she started making fun of you with Kim Canetti. And it was like they were laughing at *me*. You didn't know at all. You seemed so happy.

Donald Kaufman: I knew. I heard them.

Charlie Kaufman: How come you looked so happy?

Donald Kaufman: I loved Sarah, Charles. It was mine, that love. I owned it. Even Sarah didn't have the right to take it away. I can love whoever I want.

Charlie Kaufman: But she thought you were pathetic.

Donald Kaufman: That was her business, not mine. You are what you love, not what loves you. That's what I decided a long time ago.
