I often hear people saying that poker is a game of chance. For me, this is kind of offensive. Poker is a game of skill with the element of luck(chance).

I used to try to explain that, but it's useless. They keep believing that poker is all about luck (probably inspired from movies) . When I say "when we go outside, the chances of seeing a real dinosaur are 50/50: we'll see it or we won't see it", they reply "don't be ridiculous". They can't even understand sarcasm (facepalm).

Now I'm not trying to explain it anymore, I just agree with being the "lucky guy" and ignore them. But it's still offending my feelings towards poker. They don't understand the concept of the game, and I can't blame them.

I'm just being cool and ignore them. :)

How are you dealing with these kind of people? (in real life and on internet)

In real life, you don't talk poker with them, on internet you value bet them.

Beside being a game of mistakes and long term, I also believe poker is the gathering of information and the giving out of misinformation. When ever anyone tells me: poker is rigged, poker is luck, I know everything; you know nothing, I always smile and say you're right, I'm new and I really appreciate the help. Take a note and use it to make money from them down the road. As long as you know it's more skill than luck, let them believe in luck or whatever else excuse they use for bad play

Its no sense to explain if they dont want to understand. Besides, this kind of people are your bread and butter at the table. They sit at the table with the attitude "i want to try my luck", let them alone.

I think a lot of people associate poker with 5 card draw, where there's a lot less math and a lot more player reading.

If the last time you played poker was on a computer game when you're 5 years old, or on video poker at a Casino, Poker means 5 card draw with straight payoffs per hard.

If you've never played poker but love Star Trek, Poker means 7 card stud and it's all about bluffing.

If you watch Poker on TV, poker is Texas Hold'em, and somebody pushes in with 4-6s every hand and wins big.

If you actually play Poker, you know it's a game of skill.

Some friends say it's feeling of good karma when I ask them why they play crap hands.
When I stack them their real "karma" is seen...

Blaise Pascal said the biggest absurd in human history about chance - and he was mathematician.
It's so called "Pascal's Wager". He stated God exists or does not and basically gave it 50 : 50 chance.

i'll try to explain BRM, taking care to mention its something to do with maths then i use the 'coin that lands heads 51% of the time' analogy, it usually at least results in them begrudgingly yielding.

EDIT: im talking about when friends and family confront me about 'gambling' not other players

This strategy will never fail you.
1st you crawl. (Learn how to play ABC poker
2nd. You walk. (Expand learning to become a thinking player)
3rd. You run. (Expand learning so your play is 3rd level thinking)
4th. You duplicate yourself (Expand learning to be able to add more tables)
Do you see a pattern here ?(
Good news is most of what you need to move through the 4 steps is here. So all you need to do is make up your plan and work it, following 3 things: discipline, patience & Good bankroll management.
