Well, I'm back from my trip. I can break my week down into two parts - (i) poker, (ii) car park design.
I got to Bristol on Sunday and went straight to the casino (obv). I played £1/£1 for just over four hours, and finished £64 up. That's my first ever winning live cash session. Well done me. Very enjoyable. I also met up with Fab and played pub poker on Tuesday night. Ran like god (why can't I get a card rush like that when there's some proper money involved?), then managed to forget about ICM (Whoops! I had had a few beers.) and called it off with AQ v KK on the bubble when there was a tiny stack left. Doh! That's £5 I won't see again. Never mind. I had fun. Fab is a nice chap, and the other players were mainly entertainingly drunk or stoned.
I spent most of the week trying to design optimal car parks. If you have a polygonal car park, how do you get the most spaces in? Sounds easy, actually really hard. I spent the week trying to find continuous space-filling strips numerically. I was still trying on the train on the way home.
At these events, I always take the 'it's good experience for PhD students to give the talk on the final day' line. Well played me.

Fortunately the company that proposed the problem were happy to have some clever-sounding people confirm that it's a hard problem.
Back to the grindstone on Monday. Students to teach, books to write, shit to shovel.... ho hum.
