So my trip to Prague was uneventful, apart from my night out with Boris, even though our Czech hosts had booked us into a very nice hotel that seemed to be in the middle of the sleaziest part of Prague. One of my colleagues was complaining that the street was lined with hookers who kept winking at him on the first night we were there.
I went out with Boris on Tuesday night and bought him dinner at a Mexican restaurant that he had chosen. For some reason he ordered the Dragon's Breath soup and proceeded to sweat like something not right while he ate it. I think it had an odd effect on his digestive system too because he was making some very strange windy noises for the rest of the evening. He then proceeded to demonstrate that, even though he'd been in Prague for six years, he had no idea where anything was, although we ended up at a good pub in the end. He's clearly so fit and healthy that he can't hold his beer, so he was good company. He finally said we were going to another bar, but he couldn't find it, so we went to the bar in my hotel and stayed there until he had to catch his train.
Apparently he's going to be some sort of Taekwondo champion soon. He certainly looked as fit as a butcher's dog, and I wouldn't want him to kick me round the head. All in all a good evening, even though it was pretty random.
I sat down to play poker tonight, at which I felt very rusty at first. I suspect I just about broke even, although I'm not sure because I kept to my resolution not to look at my cashier while I'm playing NL50. I haven't done the maths properly, but I think it won't take long to get platinum status back, which is 25% flat rakeback. I'm not sure how the Black Card thing works, but I cba to check. I'll just try to play at least 20K hands this month (2K tonight) and see how I get on.
The player pool seemed to have changed a lot since I last played. Everyone seemed to be either a midstacker or a 19/16 ish TAG. It doesn't necessarily mean they're any better postflop, but, until I got some stats (doesn't take long with only about 90 entries) I found myself, with hindsight, bluffing into some tight ranges, which is not a good idea. I suspect that it may not be much different to Stars now, but I will persist because I like the fact that you get stats quickly. I also counted how many people were playing full ring Rush, and found that it was just 5. Not 5 playing NL50, but 5 altogether at all limits. That's pretty tragic.
And last but not least, I finished the final draft of the book yesterday and sent it to my coauthors to check. I think they'll mainly like it. Once they're happy with it, it can go off to the publishers.

Should I visit Middle Earth to see you, Waiboy and more sheep than a man of my age can comfortably handle, taking, and paying for, my wife and three children, because it's not worth going for a short visit, or should you, young, carefree, independently wealthy through poker, and single, come to visit a continent with more than two thousand years of history to explore, that's home to lots of your poker friends? Or we could wait for plate tectonics to make the choice for us.

Having finally started playing poker again, I thought I'd post an update. As you know from your in depth reading of my previous posts, I'm playing NL50 without looking at my cashier. I've managed to stick to this, but I think I must be somewhat down. I see myself getting sucked out on and losing KK v AK, etc etc...all the usual stuff. Luckily, I am a patient man. I feel like I'm playing well at the moment, so I'll keep going. The $500 bonus that those nice F*** T**t people gave me should help (I can't say the name of where I'm playing because they had a fight with Pokerstrategy in the playground, and some of the older children had to step in to break it up). The 'not looking at your cashier' thing also means I can't post any interesting hands, unless someone can tell me how to look through hands without HEM2 telling me how I'm doing.
It's been a busy week for me because mrsjb has been in hospital for a couple of days for an operation that the nurse described as not major, but not really minor either. Very reassuring. She came home today and her main problem seems to be that she put her back out getting out of the hospital shower. I could have told her that you should never bend over to pick up the soap in there. Or is that prisons? Anyway, number two son chose the two days that mrsjb was in hospital to decide he was too ill to go to school, so yesterday I had to take him to work with me, and today I had to stay at home.
Kids are so troublesome. When I get in the car with my daughter, she says 'Can we listen to that girlie music?' to which I reply 'Spose' 
, and then we have to listen to this.
Number two son, on the other hand, says 'Can we listen to that awesome 26 minute long track?', to which I reply 'Of course we can!'

I'm finding the whole not looking at you cashier thing a bit tricky. I've played quite a lot over the last few days, and I've been really happy with how I've been playing. Full Tilt is really odd at the moment. Last week it was full of nits, but today there were several really bad aggressive players, who were fun to play with. I think I made the appropriate adjustments, but I've been running like absolute shit. I've lost all in preflop with KK four times in a row now. I daren't look at my graph even if I were planning to. However, I feel curiously confident. Tbh I don't think I've ever been playing better, so I think the results will come. Infinite patience is required.
The book is basically finished now. I'm giving it one more read through, and hopefully it'll be off to the publishers at the end of the week. Extracting a gushingly complimentary Foreword from the top poker player to whom we have given the privilege of writing it is, however, proving more problematic than I would have hoped.
On the home front, mrsjb is slowly recovering from her op, although she's still dosed up to the eyeballs with painkillers. Thankfully, I am now playing the role of dad instead of mum.

I'm thinking more of the 'sloping off to work to hide from the lot of them' aspect of fatherhood.
I played some poker with my sons last night. We started with NL5CD, 100bb each. Number two son calls every bet and never raises. He refuses to let me give him any advice on how to play. He donked off all his chips to us just before bedtime, which was very convenient. We then switched to HU NLHE. Number one son usually calls every bet and never raises, but seemed to have learned something from number two son's plight, so I showed him a bluff. He then called everything.

To be fair to number one son, he did ask for some tips afterwards. I got him to play the AKQ game with me for a bit, and I think I saw a few pennies dropping for him. Hopefully I'll have saved him some money in the future.
