For my whole life i've loved football, and there has been one or two constants in my memory. One is Manchester United as a whole, another is Ryan Giggs, and the other is the unforgettable Sir Alex Ferguson.

After 26 years in charge of Manchester United, the man the world "legend" was made for has stepped down, he joined after knocking Celtic and Rangers off their perch with Aberdeen. He joined with the intention of knocking Liverpool off their perch, and he has done just that.

The game against West Brom on the final day of the season will be his 1,500th in charge of Man United, and in that time he's lifted 38 trophies, including an unprecedented 13 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cups and 2 Champions Leagues; and picked up a knighthood on the way!

End of an era at the greatest football club on Earth...

The greatest? Seriously? Maybe the 2nd or 3rd. Yeah Alex is/was a goo manager. Still there is someone much...much....much more better

No club in a competitive league has dominated as much as Man Utd over the past 20 years (Maybe Bayern but the German league has been much less competitive than the Premier League).

And Ferguson, at the moment, is by far the greatest club manager in history. Mourinho, whilst obviously excellent, hasn't proven himself completely yet, maybe someday he will. He hasn't built up a team from nothing to become top clubs (Ferguson did this with both Aberdeen and Man Utd, who were in relegation trouble when he took over).

I loled hard in this. Mourinho has 2 champion league 7 leagues in 9 years. Ferguson has 13 leagues and 3 champions league in 26 years. He is good not even close to Mourinho skills. Rumours are saying Mou is back to Chelsea. Obviously Ferguson fears Mourinho will start the raping again thats why he retires. Whatever angle you see there is only one in the history of football. Definitely not Ferguson. This is why he won only one time Mourinho when the former one was in Chelsea while Mou raped Fergie 4 times

There is only one team. The team Mou manage every year. I hope he remain sin Madrid because Real is biggest team in history of football, but we will follow him everywhere

Even as an Arsenal fan there's no denying Fergie's management ability. Could argue all day about whether he's the greatest manager of all time but imo it's difficult to decide because how is that judged? Yeah he could have maybe done better in European competitions and there's arguments that he's not as 'diverse' as others like Mourinho who've proved themselves in various countries, but there's no hiding away from what Fergie's done in this country and ill be very surprised if somebody is as consistent as him in England in my lifetime at least.

Definitely won't miss seeing his face on MOTD though and I've no doubt Mancini couldn't stop smiling over his Weetabix this morning. End of an era yes, end of Utd? Maybe, irreplaceable.

I do think Fergie is good. He is the best. The second best

There are many coaches that can keep ManU high. Moyes isnt one of them imo. I would say Klopp is the best for ManU or Guardiola. This is because i hope Mou stays in Madrid. The biggest team need the biggest manager

It would be sick to see Klopp in ManU, Mou in Chelsea. Mancini will not stop crying after this. Third place for life

Mourinho hasn't built a team, he's inherited them and turned big egos into winners because of his big ego. Ferguson inherited a historical club that was close to relegation and turned them into the world's biggest club. If someone became Liverpool manager next season and in 20 years time they had won 13 Premier League titles that would be a similar achievement. Mourinho is obviously a quality manager in Europe and has the ability to turn overpaid arseholes into winners, but he hasn't proven himself in building a squad. He came into the fray at Porto and cruised the league (as they do so often), obviously massive achievement winning the Champions League with them though. He then inherited a incredibly expensive (£100m+) squad with proven players and won the league. A good achievement but it was expected.
At Inter he inherited an already winning side yet again, with Inter winning the Serie A the year before (And got beat in CL by a certain Alex Ferguson ;) ) Obviously he did well in Europe again, and won some more Serie A titles with little competition from a rebuilding Juventus side and a very aging AC Milan side.
Went to Madrid, won the league in his 2nd season with, once again, a ridiculously expensive and talented side, and has so far failed to perform in Europe there.

Is he a brilliant manager? Yes of course. Can he be considered the greatest manager? No, not in my opinion. Much like I don't consider Pep Guardiola to be a great manager yet, he inherited one of the best club teams ever assembled and crushed with them, but that doesn't prove he is a great manager. Mourinho has repeatedly come into teams that already have a fantastic squad and done well with them, imo his greatest achievement is winning the CL with Porto.

Whereas Ferguson has repeatedly rebuilt squads, winning the Premiership with a group of homegrown kids (And you don't win anything with kids ;) ) and constantly utilised his philosophy of "No player is bigger than the club" by selling players who have got too big for their boots. Every time he's done that everyone has said "Well that's the end of United, they won't win the title for a while", and every time he proved them wrong.

But don't misunderstand me, I think now Ferguson has retired Mourinho can be considered the best manager around, but no way is he the best manager ever yet. Imo Moyes is a mistake, yes he has the same personality and determination as Ferguson, but he's had 10 years of buying average players for cheap and getting them to perform, he needs to learn how to handle a big transfer budget and how to manage the big ego players, I think there's a good chance we could go without a league title for a few years before Moyes gets used to it. I'd have preferred Klopp personally, or Mourinho for a few years and then Solksjaer when he has a bit more experience.

The only reason Mourinho is not building a team with youngsters is because his ambition. He said from the beginning he has to win everything in the 3 big leagues. He never planned to stay in Chelsea forever, neither in Inter, nor in Madrid. You say about Inter? WTF he won CL. You say about Chelsea? WTF not only won 6 titles in 3 years but raped Fergie 4-1. In Madrid he won one League, two Cups which in both he won Barcelona and went 3 times in semi final in CL.

The only reason Fergie succeed is because ManU was working in this plan from the beginning. Again, he is the best second manager

You're trolling, right?

I mean, Mourinho may be a good manager and one of the best tactical minds of our generation, but you simply can't say he's a bigger than Sir Alex.

Porto - ManU Porto qualifies
Chelsea - ManU 4-1 in era of Mourinho
Inter - ManU ManU qualifies
Real - ManU Real qualifies

Yeah Fergie is better than Mou

Okay we'll go in stats.

Quite convenient actually, Mourinho has been in management for 13 years, exactly half of Ferguson's reign at Man Utd.

In 13 years Mourinho has won 20 trophies with already dominating teams
In 26 years Ferguson won 48 trophies, starting with a relegation threatened team.

Stats don't lie ;)

He took over Benfica in 2000, that makes 13 years.

Chelsea had just had £100 Million spent on players when he took over, and they were still nowhere in Europe when he left.

Tbf, winning the league with Real Madrid once in 3 years isn't that great an achievement either.
