Hey Pleno, in one of the vids for the gold academy, can't remember if it was yours or someone else's but it said there was a spot where hero would 3bet/5bet A5s and 3bet/fold AJo bb vs btn.

Is this just because it does slightly better when called by JJ+,AQ+/QQ+,AK type ranges? Is this extra 5% equity worth more than blocking JJ which is usually gonna be happy to get it in btn vs bb?

Is there any way to, even vaguely, quantify the value of blockers in terms of equity?

I think its a really important session and as I said, one of the biggest reasons that people are losing in NL is because of their loss rate from the blinds.

Hey buddy,

It totally depends.

Lets say we have j9 and the board is 974

Betting the flop is going to be mandatory, if the turn is a low card then betting again is going to be good as pocket pairs will call, but if the turn is a King then we still have a medium strength hand, but betting for value would be ambitious.

Its all opponent specific though, some guys call wayyyyyy wide otf, so if we have somebody who folds to 20% of cbets then lets look at the same example again.

J9 we raise they call.

Flop 974, we bet, they call

Turn A, we check back

River 2. They bet, we call.

Its really hard for them to have a value hand now, but with EVERYTHING they called on the flop ambitiously, such as KQ, JT etc etc will always bet.

Watched that first NL10 zoom video again and for some reason I love how you made a note on the villain who insta4bet to a large size. Its just so clear and writing "Insta4bet large size with top of range (QQ)" seems like it would be so crystal clear and helpful as opposed to my current shorthand system where the reads get lost in notes like: "OR/INSTA3.5x4bet COvsBU w/QQ"

im playing here (speed nl100) from start of this year now, and for the last 1-2 month ive really tried to pay attention to what everyone was doing and trying to make notes that makes sense. there are about 20-30 regs here that i constantly play against, and i have at least some notes on most of them, but still it seems so hard to figure out witch regs are really good, witch are bad, witch ones are thinking regs, and witch are more autopiloting, witch tends to exploit me, and witch treats me same as everyone else, and so on...i also must say that trying to think about all this things while also trying to be a bit looser and a bit more aggressive is pretty exhausting, frustrating, and i tend to spew more cause of that, so its also more tilty. so i sometimes think is this really worth it? isnt it better to just play abc and try not to make to big mistakes?

i guess you (and all the better players) know your opponents really well (at least the ones you play much against). so, can you give any general advice/tips/directions on how to get to know your opponents better(and adjust to that accordingly)? (besides play play play, always think about what are they doing, and making notes)

anyway...this is the hand i just played

speed nl100 6max, effective stack: 100bb

pree flop:
MP opens 3, i call from SB with T :diamond:T

Flop ($7.00): 6 :spade:5 :diamond:8
i check, he bets 5, i raise to 12, he calls

Turn ($31,00): 6 :spade:5 :diamond:8 6
i check, he bets 21, i call

River ($73,00): 6 :spade:5 :diamond:8 6 :diamond:4
i check, he checks

he shows J :heart:Q

villain is a 25/20/3 reg with 50% fold to cbet raise
flop is not standard (i usually donk in this spot), but this time i check to get his cbet, and to see how he responds to x/r on dry boards.

so, what have i learned from this?

-is it ok to assume, that this villain doesnt give much credit to my x/r on dry boards, so in future i can x/r more flops for value against him?

-or maybe i cant assume nothing because my x/r was to small and he just called cause i gave him a good price.

-you think this hand was played ok?

-what kind of a note would you make based on his play, or you think this spot isnt worth making any note? (i made note: "against flop x/r: on dry boards defends with overcards, and bluff turn when i x")

Thanks for the post.

I don't really like the hand.

Were you planning on going all in on the flop? If not then I don't like turning TT into a bluff, it is still a strong bluff catcher and we can improve on later streets.

I also think your sizing is a little bit too small, if you were bluffing would you use this sizing?

I think in the hand your hand is super face up, it looks like you have 99 or TT when youre playing vs somebody and telling them exactly what you have it wont be too hard to play against you.

I think his flop call is still pretty ambitious though.
