SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 9♠ J♠

UTG calls 1 BB, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero checks

Flop: (2.5 BB, 2 players) 5♥ 7♠ 8♠
Hero bets 1.5 BB, UTG calls 1.5 BB

Turn: (5.5 BB, 2 players) A♥
Hero checks, UTG bets 5 BB, fold

UTG wins 5.5 BB

I really think the only way to go on the turn is to bet again. I don't know why I didn't. If I bet he could fold. If he doesn't and I hit a flush or stratight I should win on the river. I almost called, but according to pot odds...that would be the wrong play as I'm getting about 3 to 1 to call and I have 12 outs...which is 4 to 1. Correct?

Hi Edukator,

Preflop: looks fine

Postflop: l'd bet 2 BB and bet/fold turn. We have OESD and FD and you decide to check/fold. Why?

And you have more than 12 outs, 9 for flush, 6 for straight.

I folded because I didn't think I had pot odds to call. Not very good at working that out in my head in the time given online...

Was my first calculation in the message off?

Oh sorry, I don't know why I typed 12 outs when I had calculated 16 outs moments before I typed that...

So that means...I had about 3 to 1 odds to hit my hand then right?

So I should have called.

Yes, but you are still better off betting yourself.
