Is pursuing poker as a 2nd source of income worth it?

Maybe my opinion isn't valid as I'm far from a pro, I'm a pursuing professional

The reasons i want to be a pro player is because where i come from I have to work to hard for too little, I think that I can earn more money from poker and have time to do the things I want than I can if I work at my old job. Over the years I have put allot of time and effort into poker to get as good as I am, and I have to put allot more into it to get where I want to be.

That said I think that you can make a small amount of money from poker and have allot of fun with it if you are a recreational player, but when you decide you want to make it a source of income for you/ your family i belie it become allot more stressful and could turn out as a choir. As a second source of income (be it a large one) I cant see it being worth the effort if you are not naturally a really good winning player because it takes allot to be a winning player and to put all this into it as just a side profit, is not easy.

I could live with being a loosing player if i wasn't spending every day studying it and just played on the weekends with my friends at the casino and had a few drinks, but you cant really do that if you want to make a good profit.

Therefore as a serious secondary income I don't think its worth the effort. Not saying you shouldn't play just that you shouldn't expect to make mayor money from it. That's my opinion, but I'm someone who has to put allot of work to just make small amounts of money, some people are winning players with little work.

Totally depends on you. Personally if I had a decent job I'd spend my free time on something more enjoyable to me than poker.

My opinion is it probably depends on the conditions of where you live in. In my place where average income is way above average and there are just so many other things I can put my effort in perhaps it really isn't a worthwhile choice?

That is a valid point. In weaker economic countries, making $20US a week could allow you live reasonably.

It would be interesting if people from some of these countries with weaker economies could post here how much in US$ they would need to live comfortably for a week.

Singapore has a higher cost of living than Australia I think, which is why Australians looking to holiday in Asia favour Bali, Thailand and the Phillipines.

In order to beat NL50 and above, an average joe have to learn the game. Unless you have good talent at poker you can not beat NL50 without learning hard. You can see that many people can't beat NL25 even though they invest 20 hours a week studying.

Depends what kind of income you can have in poker. Just because salaries are higher than avarage in Singapore doesn't mean you can't earn more playing poker.

If youi enjoy poker, than pursue it. Its not only about the money. Besides, if you are not passionate about poker you won't be able to achive much (probably).
