Update

small update haven't really played much nl5 over the weekend, played a few mtt with very good cashes (for me anyway) which took my roll from $200 to $1000 which was great I withdrew $800 just so i'm not tempted to climb up the limits as I want to learn and beat nl5 first.

I'm also torn between nl5 sh or nl5 zoom, is it okay to play both or are they too different?

Hello.

Why you cashed out? I know for sure that you are able to beat NL25. With 1000 dollar you have a great amount to poker with. In my eyes, its always good to explore higher stakes, because you will learn much more of these games than for example nl5.

Anyways, its always nice to have some extra money on your bankaccount. :)

it was mainly because I don't feel like I can crush nl5 yet, which is full of fish as it is. I assume nl25 has a few more regs in it. loosing a few nl25 stacks could really tilt me I think and I'm not really in any rush. I sort of want to move up limits from beating the limits

I want around a 100k hand sample at nl5 + nl10 to better find my leaks and where I'm weakest before I jump into higher stakes. although this may change depending on the circumstances. Nice to know I cashed out my initial deposit + $700 more. this will help me keep calm that I've aready made a big profit.

Yeah I agree with you, just because we have the bankroll, doesn't mean we must play a certain limit. I just play a limit where I have the br AND feel good playing :)

Update

So I've not updated much recently, last few days I've run well, nearing $300 considering taking a shot at NL10 when I do, or wait till $400 for 40bi really undecided on it at the moment.

Run into two of the biggest fish I've ever seen yesterday, both sat down with max buy in at nl5, raised almost every hand was crazy but really good fun, think I could of took more from them but they we're building stacks and sucking a lot of people out but I played well not used to playing against these people and didn't really loose to much or risk to much against them, both had a vpip80+ I also put my stack at max hoping I would get a spot to stack one of them but I was careful about it.

is there any specific way to play against these people? flopped middle pair and they would be rasing 10bb+ every hand

Personally I would not recommend to mix them. I play fullring but to me it seems that in Zoom you rarely find those big fish with VPIP>50 and they don't satck off that light as in normal games. I play Zoom just because of the volume. But you know your limits, try it for yourself and you will see it. _thumbsup:

I decided to stop playing zoom, felt I was only playing for volume waiting spots that quite often I got sucked out on, so I've stuck with 6max, do you find a lot of VPIP50+ on FR? I was under the impression everyone was a nit

Update

only a small update, I've decided to take a few shots at NL10, thus far going quite well.

Also I bought a wireless mouse today, been playing on laptop which is fine as I only 4 table, no where near good enough to do any more comfortably at the moment. but last few days my wrist, hand, thumb has been sore from the constant use of a touch pad so invested in a mouse which is +ev surely :) :f_biggrin:

Depends how bad they are really. If they're betting every single hand for three streets, I would probably even call with an ace high (especially on drier boards), but certainly any pair against loose aggressive/maniac players. You will be getting so much value from no-pair hands. Besides, any money you lose is going to be very easy to recoup.

Any stats on Prohorova? Going in blind, even if you called and saw the flop you wouldnt get away I don't think..unless you raised his c-bet and took a reraise, that would definitely prompt me to fold!

Having said that, 4 bet shoving QQ preflop in general (i.e. without reads) doesn't seem profitable to me.

In general you rarely make a huge mistake by folding.

Good blog though, impressed with the speed of your progress, I'll definitely follow.

Still struggling improving those passive stats you posted by the way?

thanks, I did think calling with QQ in the long run is probably not profitable as I'm always against AK, KK, AA a lot of the time.

I've also not played against anyone this passive again yet, hoping to run into some I did notice that yesterday though lost a fair few hands to them, none of any high value but did win one every so often which made up for it and more. but I agree I should of played a bit looser with them could of probably won a bit more. need to learn to adapt to the players and not just keep the same play vs all.

Thanks, glad to hit nl10 seems like a big jump from nl5 plan on staying here for a long while.

Oh and on the subject of LAG/Maniac players, Pokerstrat article gives some decent advice:

"[vs. these players] Try to be consistent and have a plan: Either call down on all three streets or fold right away. Your opponent isn't known for suddenly giving up along the way so do not play as if he will."

Yes identifying and adapting to player types was really big for me. Though you do have to be careful not to go crazy with it (calling lag players all in preflop with A3o etc..) Also it's not wholly necessary to beat micros; BalugaWhale said in one of his videos that he could condense the whole video series into one phrase for beating microstakes: "Bet for value and fold if they raise"

Do you have a problem with ego or something? It's good you want to do it all by the book, but you should move up as soon as your BR allows. You can be equally strict about moving back down the limits. Even if it's just a one BI stab, and back down if you lose it!

yes, I don't go broke with QQ unless it's a huge fish

And you were right! I was playing 6 tables Zoom for about 2 weeks. 2 tables 5NL and 4 10NL, and was actually a loser at NL5. It seemed that evryone played like 6/6 and did not stack off w/o AA. However 10NL is not that nitty, and occasionally you find some big fish who will satck off w/ KJo for 100BB.

Update

small update today, I've decided to move my roll to party poker, few reasons, deposit bonus, was getting fed up getting sucked out all the time with AA KK, I think I lost nearly all AA hands I got and just wanted to try something new. I will without doubt return to stars after bonus's are cleared etc.

First thought on party, may just be random, but the amount of people willing to shove pre flop with pocket pairs, AJo+ is crazy I mean its almost laughable, opening raise sizes seem to be a lot higher and people aren't afraid to put all there money in post flop in hope to hit their flush

lets see what happens!

current br : $395.00

will take shots at nl25 when I hit $800 (if I hit $800 :f_biggrin: )

Going broke with QQ in BTNvsBlinds is as standard as it gets, if ur folding that preflop ur a nit.
