Statement #1: 1/2 is infinitely softer than 2/5.

The percentage of losing players compared to winning ones is clearly higher on 1/2. The amount of pure donations one gets while playing 1/2 is probably 3-4 times the amount that is possible to get on 2/5. Clearly, I might be skewed here but that's how i perceive it after over million hands on 1/2 zoom and six figure hand count on 2/5 zoom. Also, something that is obvious but should still be mentioned - the amount of really tough players is waaaay smaller on 1/2.

Question #1: Is it all about hourly?

If ones wr on 2/5 is 2/100, and for the same player on 1/2 it is 5/100, those equal the same 10$/100 in expected winnings. Calculate in the rake back and voilá, one should be playing 2/5.

The likelihood of having a losing month when one plays 65k hands on 2/5 with the aforementioned wr is 39.9380%

Question to you: Are you a nit?

If you're a nit, you choose to play 1/2. If you're not a nit, you choose to play 2/5. Higher expected earnings are generally thought as the main factor in choosing what games to play in.

Nitting it up and play lower to get stress free grind is good, especially as a poker pro, being strong and play though opposition is going to be good long term.

Shouldn't a poker pro be looking at long term?

I guess the answer is prolly to mix stakes up so you get a bit of both.

Something i've been doing few times lately has been playing couple tables of zoom and adding in few micro stakes mtts or mt-sngs. Few reasons i figured this is something to try out.

a) I'm a huge mtt donk.
b) I'm not v good at playing vs short stackers (not as much of a concern nowadays as before tho)
c) It keeps things interesting by giving new stimulation to my brain.

Clearly, my focus is prioritized and mostly spent on the cash tables (bb = buy-in ♦) and trying to not spew is what I mostly focus on with the mtts.

If you people have some must see mtt videos/content to watch/read, feel free to point me to that direction. Also, if someone has links to good nash push/fold charts for full-ring, links are appreciated.

Regarding other things that are appreciated, ideas for posts, trolling, feedback, suggestions etc. are among the circle of appreciation in this thread.

Promise me 1 thing. You will never spend ur fpp before u are supernova. All you can spend them on, is the stellar rebates costing 1fpp.

U get a higher rakeback this way. Ppl that says there is higher value in spending them on step5 (which has the highest value) just has too much time.

The difference is 1600$ vs 1610$. 1600 is by spending 100k as supernova. 1610 is by spending them on step5 tictets. If we say u would normally have a roi in sngs on 5%, and we say step5 2x as easy. Then u would actually LOSE value. 11,5 roi gives 693.5$. 12% gives 723$.

And if u are a boss in sng, then u might get 20% in theese satelites, who knows.

But that doesnt make up for the time u could have spend playing cashgame, and then getting the instant rake instant.

But im sure u must know all this. It is just my 2 cents

I really couldn't motivate myself to play those micromtt's even if I wanted to.

Chose to take the longest break from poker in years. During last ~10 days, i've played only one session (second ongoing now). It's been refreshing, unproductive and thoughtful 10 days. The goal of this break was to plan what to do next. Now I have a bit more of an idea what to focus on next. The break was also the first time in last year (probably not but close enough to first), that poker wasn't in my "top-priorities" category.

Did it make me a better person? -No.

Did it make me a better student? -Maybe (if it did, it was marginal at best).

Did it improve my future ev? -No (or it was marginal).

Did I achieve what I wanted to achieve (aka have a game plan moving forward)? Partially (have a plan for a short period).

I guess the most important one is this:

Am I happier now, in this very moment, after this break than what I would have been without it? -Yes(?). But I am perfectly aware of synthetic happiness (ted.com) (well, not perfectly) so I'm going to take my analysis on this matter with a handful of salt (just made that up, do you like it?)

Looking back at it, would I do it again? My first instinct is to say no. Second is yes. Third is the one I'm going to lock and go with - Definitely, Maybe

You're probably a better mtt-player than I am, so you don't feel the wave of new situations as interesting as I do. I might actually make a list of top5 in no particular order one day but for now, I'm just going to say that most of the best 1/2 zoom guys also play 2/5 zoom, so figuring out the best ones out of those isn't actually much more than going through the lobby.

Someone pointed me out the same math regarding the step-tickets over skype not-too-long-ago. But given that I don't rly expect to have an edge in any sng (unless it's hu, micro stakes or maybe live), I'm going to keep exchanging my vpps to the 1,6k$ as i have always done. But thanks for the heads up anyway!

btw, if anyone knows how to make sure mtt-results are captured by hem or what to do when those are not imported, let me know, since right now my micro-mtt-donk-graph looks even worse than it actually is ♦

I ended up seeing this calculation regarding rebuy mtts:

$11 2x-turbo rebuy on Stars
2000 rebuy
5000 addon
1424 entries, 3275 rebuys, 936 addons=5635
Chips = 14,078,000
Value of rebuy = $8
Value of addon = $20

Value of $11 buyin + $10 addon = $28

Pro move – buyin right before the addon period starts, and save yourself the money you would lose rebuying if you bust. You start with a 33% ROI right off the bat before even taking skill level into account.

Now, I'm too dumb to understand this. Could some of you wizards-of-mtts explain this to me? I guess the part where he says "and save yourself the money you would lose rebuying if you bust" is ridiculous, since one is assuming he has an edge at the beginning of the tournament. But other than that, does it make sense? And equal importance: where do these numbers come from?

Apparently, no one has actually done any math regarding mtts. Ever? ♦

Played 8h today. Mostly 6max, a decent chunk of heads up and few micro mtts on the side. I've got 25k vpps to go for the 200k vpp milestone, so the plan is to mostly play on stars during next weeks to ensure i get there by the end of this year.

Couple points regarding volume. Firstly, the micro mtts are huge for my volume. I'm too big of a nit to quit playing, when i'm in a 2$ mtt ♦. Yet, it's too boring to just one table. The combination of those two things have lead me to play multiple hours longer than I normally would have. I always have 3-6 cash games running alongside the micro mtt, often some of those tables are zoom as well. It keeps shocking me how often i realize "ohh, the mtt is AGAIN on a break", which means, as u prly know, that i've just played another 1h. As ridiculous as it might sound, those mtts are probably the second best habit i've picked up during this year. The first, by far, is going to the gym few times a week, every week. I've been hitting the gym for years but during the last five years, i've never been "gymming" it up this regularly.

Second thing regarding volume: few posts ago, I wrote about the ev of taking a pretty long break. Looking back at it, i've got few words to tell my former self: "Great choice mate!". Playing poker is again more fun, exciting and now i'm even looking for playing when i wake up.

If there's one thing that i haven't been doing enough, it's studying poker. Been at least couple months, since I did a real poker research session. Ofc, I occasionally go over a few hands but that isn't exactly something that advances my game anymore. I should be doing more extensive analysis that gives me better understanding behind the math, equities, break even and inflection points etc.

I'll be starting to do the necessary reading on my bachelor thesis tomorrow. I've got around 6 weeks to get it done, although it's not a "hard deadline" but that's the schedule i'm trying to get it done in. The actual dl is in March but I want to give myself the option of moving outside Finland in the beginning of 2014 by finishing this thesis during this year.

No sir. It's actually been over a year, since I moved. Finnish uni > Viennese uni. I guess it's been a while since we've caught up ♦
