Should I write my play off as just unlucky or should I have played it different?
I mean, it was an easy lead out with my hand and I hoped to get some folds there. Once I got repopped, I tried narrowing his ranges but I got overwhelmed by the fact he was UTG. I gave him an initial range of 978*, *986, 684*, 77**, 55**, 75**, 22**, including AA** and KK** which might have also been there. Now, vs the whole of that range I was ahead (55%) so I decided not to repop it (I currently have but a 5, even though I have lots of equity) and flatted instead. Turn was a very filthy card. Against the whole of his range there, I had 62%, while I had 38% if we drop the overpairs. I just think that pairs are so rarely there in his range (for example 22** is practically never there, as is 55**, hands like 7789 7768 ar more likely). We could then drop 55** out of his range but the percentage remained the same. In the way I played it, the turn was a gin card. If he indeed went aggro with his aces, he might have also come down with flush draws on the turn, making it an easy allin (esp with paired board), so me having trips and flush blockers was as much a good as it could be. Apparently, I was wrong with my guesswork, but in theory I am still happy with my play.
But should I be?
