UTG opens, you 3bet A8s in MP, CO calls, CO already is 'working with UTG' to make your EV smaller. The 3bet is prob fine HU vs an UTG opening range but as soon as you add people behind, you get screwed.. I think that's what JB was talking about.

LE: Maybe unintentional collusion sounds better?

Did I say bluffctacher? Did I? No. Did I say not being -EV? Did I? No. You can't hold me responsible for what people might think.

I wonder what your students think of this... _biggrin:

That's certainly the sort of thing that I was thinking of. I have no idea how to analyse it, although I'm sure that's just my ignorance (which is curable) not my stupidity (with which I am lumbered forever).

I take absolutely no responsibility for what my students think. My job is to lead them to the water, not to check whether they're drinking it or pissing in it.

DTD was fun last night. I finally managed to cash (13/84), but more to the point felt that I played pretty well. It really fazes people when I'm in short stack ninja mode with about 9bb effective and they're all dicking around with flops. I bust out with an above average stack when I managed to get someone to insta snippity snip snap off my all in 3bet preflop with A5o in a spot where he was ahead of absolutely nothing, even my likely bluffs. I had QQ and he turned an ace, which was a shame because I would then have been going into the final table with a monster stack (20bb! Ooooooo!). It's probably just as well. I was starting to lose my concentration because it was bloody 1.40am and I didn't get to bed as it was until 2.30am. Here I now sit at my desk like a pro. If I had won it, it probably wouldn't have been worth going home. Strictly Friday or Saturday nights only from now on. :f_mad:

still ridiculous entry fee and probably making it -EV by itself as I don't think many can claim to have over 30% ROI on tournaments.

So it become gambling! ;)

I reckon I easily have more than 30% ROI, but the variance is about a gazillion buy ins per 100 Mtts.......roughly.

Sorry for not updating lately. I'm currently in Switzerland for the final meeting of the project that's taken me all over Europe over the last four years. In case anybody's interested in how important mathematical modelling is in engineering, here's the video.

I'll try to play some poker when I get back.

Very boring way of presenting a very cool thing. Clearly they do what they are supposed to do very well and only appeal to corporations that don't give a rats ass about presentation.

I saw part of your face in the picture and you didn't get thanked. I would ask for a detour through Vienna when returning home instead of the public gratitude. See you here!

If they'd let me write the script for the video, it would have been much better. And I could have done a better job on the soundtrack.

If I'd written your post, it would have been better too.

Crikey. Next time you should post a warning when posting such videos

I had to stop watching after about a minute or two and have next to no idea what it was all about.

If I had been asked to answer a poll after the video with the following questions:

Which of the following options would you choose after having watched this video of a talking head who makes russian roulette seem attractive.
a) rewatch the video
b) stick pins in your eyes for 5 minutes

I am pretty sure option b) would have been the frontrunner.

I'm guessing you didn't enjoy the video.

I had dinner at a Zurich hotel last night. They have a wine tower, and whenever a bottle of wine is needed, acrobatic girlies fly up to get it and do somersaults. What, you don't believe me?

You couldn't make this stuff up.

"Hi Mom, hi Dad -- guess what? I just got a new job here in Zurich"
"That's nice, dear, what sort of Job"
"Oh, it's really cool. I strip nearly starkers, hang upside down, and get lifted into the air on a cable and pick up bottles of wine"
"That's nice, dear"

I think I'm suffering from some kind of post-book poker hangover at the moment. I just can't motivate myself to play or blog. On the bright side I have started playing badminton again, and I'm going to play chess this season. That's the bright side for me, not really for my blog. Maybe it's run its course now. I'm feeling quite inhibited by the fact that I'm not anonymous anymore.

Here's a thing. Manu mentioned something about PokerSnowie to me a while ago, and I didn't really think much of it, but I hadn't realized that it's been created by the people who wrote Snowie for backgammon, which revolutionised that game. These neural networks are really powerful. I discovered this by listening to

http://www.thinkingpoker.net/2013/11/episode-54-pokersnowie-creator-johannes-levermann/

from about 13 minutes onwards. Really eyepopping stuff. I have plenty of opinions about this, but the main one is that poker is going to be fundamentally changed over the next five years. One limitation of their approach is that it only uses three different bet sizings: 0.5 pot, pot or 2x pot. Another is that it tries to play GTO and doesn't exploit. I'd strongly recommend listening to that podcast. I will try the 10 day free trial soon and report back.
