even though the bb seems to be quite nitty, i think you should 3-bet. bb can just cr 88 or tp. at least with co in the hand, you don't need that much equity to 3-bet.

river is interesting. i think he would have 3-betted a 7 on the flop and a donkbetted or checkraised a J on the turn. so you might be ahead. but what other holding is possible? mostly a bluff... he wouldn't call anyways if you raise. i think call river is fine

I would 3-bet the flop aswell, you will be ahead quite a lot and you also want to protect against a 5 (not really likely though).

I also like your rivercall, his hand looks like a draw, and the only possible draw busted so a raise wouldnt get more value. On the other hand I actually do believe he wouldnt have 3-bet the flop with a 7. He seems to be passive postflop, and hes a huge fish so they think differently than us. He could think his 7 might be good sometimes, but not good enough to 3-bet so he just calls down with it.

And I wanted that. But protection was not possible anymore because CO already called the BB-raise and BB raised so hero's 3bet can only be for value. But hero is in position and may also raise the turn.

It's not only about letting worse hands fold, it's also about extracting as much value as possible when you are ahead.

With a higher pair I could agree perhaps, but with 99 there are too many turncards on which you can't raise, so I definitely recommend a 3-bet here.
