It depends what he thinks your 3betting range is. AK beats plenty of bluffs on the river, which is a real blank. Once you check the turn you can have a lot of Ax, Kx bluffs that aren't going to bet the river unless they're bluffing. You're going to show him TT or AJ or A9 sometimes, but he only has to win 25% of the time since you made it half pot. I don't mind a call here.
He is thinking you were on a flush draw that missed.
Or he was thinking, "Ooh the sunset is lovely tonight... oh, my turn, better wait a few seconds then click something"

the commission for my training is....
nice hand.
Ok looking back at my hand I think the best to learn from this is that with TT, A9, AJ, QQ-AA (yes sometimes i would check the turn) I can make a thin and small value bet like I did.
With AK and JJ (maybe betting about pot is also an option) I ship.
really pissed off atm.
Went to play live and had the worse night of the year. Played 4 hands in 2 hours:
Hand 1:
T8s in CO. Very laggy player opens from mp1 for 3bb and 2 callers before me so call. BTN and Blinds call.
Flop: Jc 9c 2s (i flop OESD + FD)
Lag bets half pot I decided to flat. BTN minraise. Lag call. I decided that I have 0 fold equity but getting good potodds. I call.
Turn Ts (i have pair, OESD +FD)
Lag check I check BTN bets. Lag folds. I am getting 5:1 I call.
River blank.
BTN shows J2s for two pair.
REBUY....
Very next hand
AKo in mp3 I raise 5BB and get 5 callers. Long story short I stack off with TPTK against 2 pair (K4o)
Move to another table:
New player on the table who during my stay went to showdown 5 hands in a row. All 5 hands there were 2 or 3 streets of betting post flop.
First hand he shows Jack-high (J3o).
Second hand he shows King-high flush (K2s).
Third hand he shows again Jack-high (J4o).
Next hand he shows Queen-high (Q6o).
Last hand he shows top set (jacks).
No prize for guessing which hand I had two pair and which I had an over pair (kings).
ok lets post another hand:

[tg]BU$12.48:///////;SB$30.98:///////;BB$21.47:///////;UTG1$58.49:///////;UTG2$18.80:///////;MP1$30.13:///////;MP2$31.26:///////;MP3$12.75:///////;CO (Hero)$12.70:///////;[/tg]
Preflop: Hero is CO with A:s, A:d.
UTG1 folds, UTG2 raises to $0.75, 3 folds, Hero raises to $2.10, 3 folds, UTG2 calls $1.35.
Flop: ($4.55) 6:s, 6:c, A:c (2 players)
UTG2 checks, Hero checks.
Turn: ($4.55) 6:h (2 players)
UTG2 bets $0.25, Hero calls $0.25.
River: ($5.05) 8:c (2 players)
UTG2 bets $0.25, Hero raises to $10.35(All-In), UTG2 folds, Hero gets uncalled bet back.
Final Pot: $5.3.
Preflop I think I could 3 bet just a tad more.
Flop I cannot bet we must have a slowplay range
Turn his bet seems so weak I think he folds to min-raise so i hope to get him on river.
River his bet seems even weaker now but I am counting on my fishy image to get a call from a worse fullhouse. I look like I am valuetowning myself with a flush and want any foolhouse to call. I think he calls the same range (all fullhouses regardless of betsize)
Idk. Super random stuff. I'd just make it about $2.50 on the turn and hope he calls you with some random midpair.
Played live again last night. There will be no tourney tonight and friday is the bounty so I thought putting in a cash session.
Went ok and ended 1 BI up.
Had a few nice hands but didnt really get paid off. Most of my profit came from thin value bets on the river.
Quick hand reviews:
Hand 1:
The table is full of unknown players. I had been raising a bit something like 3 out of the last 6 hands and I am in MP2. I look down to A9s. There are 3 limpers and I decided to over limp. (This was my first hand for the night entering the pot without raising) 7 players to the flop.
Flop JT7 (rainbow)
Everyone checks.
Turn 8d
I make the straight with the Nut flush redraw.
Everyone checks to MP1 (unknown) who bets out but only half pot. I put him on either the same straight as me or a lower flush draw and I dont think he is folding so I raise. He raises. I ship he calls. At this point I think he is either drawing dead or I am free-rolling.
River 4c (blank)
I show my straight and he turns over Q9s for the nut straight. ![]()
Hand 2
I am BTN with AQs. 3 limpers and I raise. 2 Callers.
Flop K45 (two spades giving me the nut flush draw)
MP1 (unknown but friend of above villian) leads out for half pot size. I had seen him barrel 3 streets against his friend with bottom pair. I am getting 3:1 with good implieds IP. I see no value in raising. I flat.
Turn Ks
I have nut flush on a paired board. Villian bets but less than half pot. I am not folding but I decide to look at the river bet before I raise.
River 7h
Villian bet the same amount as on the turn. I really struggled between calling and raising but in the end I called. Now in the cold light of day I think a raise would be the best because I think his calling range may even include some 2 pair combos.
In the end he, again, only had the bottom pair and would not have called.
Hand 3
For once I am relating a hand that I did not take part.
4 limpers and a regular on the btn raises 6BB. BB (a regular) calls and the villian that likes to barrel any pair calls.
Flop Q42 (rainbow)
BB check. villian leads. BTN folds
Turn 3 (still rainbow)
BB check. Villian bets. BB calls.
River 6
BB checks. Villian bets. BB insta calls.
Villian shows 55 for runner runner straight. BB shows QQ for top set.

The casino use those card shuffle machines. I have heard some people complaining about them that they dont shuffle the cards "properly"
Played live last night.
What a night the tables were crazy and a lot of gamble.
One player in particular was open shipping every flush draw on the flop. He hit 3 or 4 on the trot and had about 600 to 800 bb stack.
One hand to illustrate the game:
MP raises 8bb and get only 3 callers. Flop JT8 (rainbow) and MP makes a c-bet. SB (new player) announces "I see you" and calls. Turn 8d (now diamond flush draw). Both check. River 7d. There is 4 cards to straight, 3 cards to boat and the board is paired. SB checks. MP ships for 140bb. SB calls. MP shows A3s. SB shows AQo. SB called ace high and kicker played. – no it was not a JB call he simply did not know what to do so he called. He did it earlier with top set also.
Against the backdrop of this I have to say I was running a bit dry because during the 5 hour session (approx 300 hands) I only got:
AQo once
AKo once
AKs once
88 twice
TT once
JJ twice
QQ twice
KK twice
AA twice.
With KK I played it as follows:
I am UTG with a very aggro CO and BTN so I limp. 3 more limpers and CO makes it 8bb. Folded to me and I make it 26BB. CO calls. Flop 8 high I bet 52BB he calls. Turn 9 I bet 60bb Allin. He folds.
The second KK was exactly my last hand of the night and I picked up KK UTG so I open 6bb and everyone folds.
With AA I played it as follows:
I am UTG +1 on the same table as KK above so I limp. 4 callers and no raise. Flop K96 with 2 spades and I don’t have As. Checked to me so I bet full pot. MP calls and then SB ships for 3x the pot. I fold.
And now for the kicker. I had moved tables to where the flush chaser mentioned above sat. I had bought in with my profits (about 260bb). I had lost 2 hands against flush chaser giving him 200bb. Thereafter I flopped 2 pair in bb and got it allin against the flush chaser et all and quadrupled up and was back to my aprox 240bb.
I get my AA in mp3 with 5 limpers. I make it 8bb, CO ( the new player above) calls. BTN calls. SB and BB folds. Everyone calls. So we go 8 players to the flop in a raised pot. Flop Ah6h5d giving me top set (NUTS) ♠_biggrin:. Flush chaser as UTG open ships for 600bb+ :f_eek:. I call for 200bb+. BTN calls for 300bb+. Flush chaser shows 8h4h for gutshot+FD. BTN shows KhTh for nut flush draw. I hold and I ship a pot just short of 800bb!
I grew up as a White Afrikaans boy in the "old" South Africa.
I was taught that a terrorist was someone who puts terror in the harts of people. I was taught that Nelson Mandela was a convicted terrorist because of his involvement in the planning of some bombings and that he was serving a live sentence.
I still remember one day walking to the shop a man passing me by and, almost at random, chanting "Free Mandela". I was confused. Does this man not know what Mandela did?. How can he go around saying things like that?. At the time my farther had his own business and had many people working for him. I had a very good relationship with many of them. This incident caused what was probably my first real political conversation. I learned that with politics all is not what it seems. I learned that politics is bollocks.
Skip 20 years and I am a student. I remember seeing on television the released of this man walking with his wife and his fist in the air. I did not know what to make of it. The smile was inviting but the fist was fear inspiring. It was clear this man would become the first black South African president having ascended to the position after been imprisoned. What would become of South Africa would we follow the road traveled by so many other African countries?
1994 when Pienaar lifted the Web Ellis trophy with Mandela standing there in his springbok "kit" they lifted a united South Africa. It was an equivocal message to us and to the world. As incomprehensible as it may seem this
man who had been incarcerated for 27 years had no grudge to anyone. This man who I had been taught to be a terrorist had no desire to put fear into the hart of anyone.
I was really sad when he became our ex-president. The lost years really came to bite us.

Ok I found the video it is at:@21:37 Cody raises from middle position with AJ. Note how, after looking at the cards, he "slams" them down. Contras that to 5:48 when he calls T8s.
@21:57 Fox looks at his cards. He looks at them for 5 seconds. NB: look at how "gently" he puts them down.Yes I know that "how much can we tell from 5 seconds" and yes I know he also placed his chips very "gently" in the pot and finally yes I know when ask how much chips he has he seemed very unsure BUT the FIRST sign of weakness was HOW he "gently" he put his cards down. Remember the other signs were deliberate. This tell was unconscious.
Later:
@23:56 Fox gets KK. He looks at them 4 seconds and then puts them down with a "slam". Yes I know it is a different cam angle but look at the position of his right hand at exactly 24:00 it is on the table still pushing the cards down. But contrast that with 22:02 where he "drops" the cards and we can see his right hand is still above the table when the cards go down. See also at 10:31 when he fold crap where his right hand is when he lets go of the cardsI this hand Antonius folds A9s suited. The commentator says "respecting the UTG raise". Well IMHO Patrick may have picked up on the "slam".
Just found this post, i like very much.
Seeing that vid i can see even a bigger tell, when the first player asks the chip count, he does not move an inch and he clearly is not happy with question. On the second hand when the AK asks the same question he almost jumps in the chair as to say "bring it on" or "I'm so god damn happy my K's gonna have action"
?(To whom it may concern:
I am still alive and still playing poker. Last year ended with 11 wining months (with November being the exception) and a very healthy win rate. This year also started very well with 3 solid winning sessions (2.5 BI up) ♦.
Online I started playing again today after taking a brake since the second week in December. (LOL - I played a 210 point sat on stars and a micro 45 player SNG – I got my ticket in the sat and came 2nd in the SNG so 100% ITM ! now I don’t want to play any more – it can only go down ![]()
Domestically we all fine. The year ended very upside down with the kids. Tyrone, who we were told 3 years ago had a sever muscular problem to the extend that he would not be able to complete the "foundation phase" without repeating, ended being rewarded the "super hero of the year" award ie the top academic achiever in his grade. Meghan, on the other hand, who we were told had no special needs and in fact did very well in the IQ test (the school they are attending has very demanding admission requirements which includes an "above average" IQ result) did very bad especially in Afrikaans as her second language. Fiona was especially upset.
My father in law is still busy with the *&*&** wall :f_cry:. The project that was to be 3 weeks is now in its 3rd month. I suspect the fact that he had to redo our lawn because it "was not level enough" as well as the floor our Lapa (entertainment out building) because this cement floor which was more than 40 years old was also not level enough and he could not or would not build a brick wall next to it unless it is 100% level ?(. Luckily I saved about 20% on the budget by getting the material from a client of mine. However it seems that we may not end within the budget – go figure.
Well Fiona went back to work today and my holiday starts on the 15 of Jan when the kids go back to school.

Sooo... the kids go back to school and then you take a holiday. Well played. I look forward to some more insight into live play. As you are on Holiday now.... Maybe you could provide further insight into some live game stories.
Ok a few stories from the last two weeks or so:
Most of these stories are aimed at the "social" aspect of the game.
Hand 1:
It is the Bounty tourney and still level 1. We have been playing about 45 min (level 1 = 1hour) and I am chip leader after winning a few pots. I look down on 8s8c. I, like a real donkey, decide to over limp . The fact is that I have been very active and had just shown a semi bluff. A very quite lady makes a raise and there are like 3 callers by the time it comes back to me so I call (getting 4:1 pot odds and good implied odds). Flop is 7c5s4c giving me an over pair + Gutshot + BD flush draw. It is checked to me and I decide to donk out. The lady is very ABC and I think this is the best way to play it. She snap ships (she is shortish) and everyone folds. Comes back to me and I am getting about 2.5:1. I am almost 100% she does have an overpair but I try to get a tell. I see the Tournament director standing behind me so I lift my card so that he can see them and, whiles looking at her, I say to the tournament director: "now do I really have to fold this?" Suddenly another player, who was never even in the hand, tells the dealer: "his cards are mucked" and starts moving the pot to the girl! ?(. Yes the person who was not in the hand claimed an irregularity involving the tournament director and assumed the authority to tell the dealer what to do. Long story short my cards were not mucked but I did decide to fold and the lady showed Jacks. The point of the story is: DON’T MAKE A SMUCK OF YOURSELF. DON’T GET INVOLVED IF YOU NOT IN THE HAND. I have seen people getting into fights for less than this.
Hand 2:
It was last night. It is very quite and we just 6 handed on the small table (R10-R20). We were full but the gamblers have lost their money and left. The 5 other players on the table included a husband/wife with whom I have been playing for as long as I have been playing live. One of the remaining players we have been playing with a couple of years. It really had a "home game feel" and we were really just having fun on the small table waiting for players to arrive.
The last player has been playing about 6 mth but has been playing every night so I think he is making a living from only poker. This player is not very well liked by the dealers and the players. He is always complaining with the dealers that they are to slow and berating other players. He likes to "hit and run" meaning that when ever he doubles up he immediately leaves without even playing a hand. He will get up whiles the pot is still being raked and ask the dealer to coulor him up and then leave.
During the course of the night me and some of the other players have deliberately been slow at making our moves because we knew it would annoy him. He then would fold out of turn and the dealer, who was aware of what was happening, would warn him not to do so. ♦
Against this backdrop I am on the btn and have KJo. MP opens for R75 and it is folded to me. MP does not open raise often but he will fold to a 3bet and I make it R210. The player mentioned above has just lost a hand and is very short and ships for R630. MP folds. So I am getting 2:1+ but I only have KJo. So the conversation goes as follows:
Me: "do you have a pair?"
Him: "I have Aces… just fold" (I don’t believe him)
Me: "I am getting more than 2:1 I should call unless…."
Me: " you got Kings or Aces then I am in trouble…
Me: "if you got Queens or Ace king then it will not be a terrible call…
Me: "if you got like Tens then it is an instant call….Do you have tens?"
Him:" I will show you…"
Me "I call"
He shows me Tens.
Lesson: WHEN VILLIAN HAS AN IDEA OF HOW STRONG OR WEAK YOUR HAND IS AND SAYS "I WILL SHOW YOU" THEN YOU SHOULD CALL.
Oh and blatantly lying about your hand is cool but you will be branded by the regulars. It is better to make an ambiguous statement misdirecting villain but lying is very often frowned upon. ie. When shipping against an unknown player with Aces you tell him you have a small pair. When he calls you say I have a pair of ones. Against a regular you ship with 22 and say you have a small pair.
