So, I took ragney's approach of not checking results until the end of the day and writing a rating for my mental and technical sides to the game in Excel. Unfortunately I did check before the end of my day, because I thought it was the end of my day ♦ But I ended up playing some more.

I gave both my mental and technical games a rating of 8.5 yesterday, I thought it went really well, but obviously a few mistakes crept in, and I got a bit pissed off when I made a really good move only to get bitten in the arse. But other than minor blips it went well The hand in question is below:

So, it's against a reg who I have a few stats on, which are showing that he floats against flop cbets a lot and gives up on the turn. He probes vs missed cbets. So obviously with TPGK i'm cbetting the flop vs a loose caller. On the turn since he's folding to turn barrels a lot I decide to check behind and take advantage of his aggression vs weakness. He shoves river, I snap it off, and get slightly tilted by the results

Done 2 days of Insanity so far, got to say, it's, well insane. Body is pretty crushed atm, after both sessions i've had to lie down for like 10 minutes because I felt sick Manu says that means i'm doing it right ♠_cool:

The real test will begin when I have to come home from work and do it.

if he floats a lot flops and gives up on turn, isn`t it better to valuebet bigger on flop? = BECAUSE HE FLOATS. on turn you would be committed and just stack off.

Regardless u could bet 48 or 49 (flop) , i think u just dont have the room for this play yr stak is too small , the logic of the play might be correct but not here i think

2- So the guy donk shoves topair at the river when u show weakness?
if he does hes not a reg imo just a weak fish and u can exploit him as hell
but theres something contradiciting (is this how u wrote lol )

u say u have few stats , but still u make a call that most will do with q3,q4,q9 10j and few will do with topair or air , so u need stats or a strong read to make that call imo

flop is fine, if I change sizing than to 40 which is also ok on this texture. he is a reg not fish, if you bet bigger he obv wont float so much and stacks are short enough so we can ez gii on later streets even if we bet smaller.

And imo bet turn, many hands he floats now picks up gutshots or 9x, and if he floated Q high you anyway wont induce otr anything because most likely he will be checking down for showdown and could even call turn bet thinking you barrel wide here, Id only check this turn with good read he can turn in to bluff for example Q high otr.

@Alvis, as daun said, we can't really bet bigger because that narrows his floating range down a ton, and stacks are shallow enough that stacks can get in very easily.

@Anton, our stack depth makes betting turn or not quite an interesting decision imo, as we're so shallow that if he turns his random floats into a bluff on the river (As I would expect given his probing frequency) we can easily get value, whereas a lot of these he would fold to a turn barrel. But as daun said, he does have a lot of 9x and hands like TJ, QT in his range that have picked up some equity on the turn, which makes barrelling favourable. I think it's a close decision vs this guy whether to barrel this turn or not, had the turn been a random card like a 5 or 6 then checking back is definitely best imo. Fwiw I think the river is a snap call, Q9 is the only 2p hand he has in his range, as he's either shoving or folding Q3 and Q4, he has some TJ but combinatorically his weaker value + bluffs range is much heavier than his better value range.

@daun, agreed, it's a much closer decision than I thought in game as he does pick up a ton more equity vs my range on the turn.

Quick update, not checking results is going well, mental game is getting better. Volume is terrible, really need to work on it. Insanity is tough as hell but i've stuck to it so far

Its much easier when your staked because you don't have to pay the loss from own bankroll

Wow, a month without an update.

Tbh not much has happened, i've continued with Insanity but i've been skipping days just because i've been too tired (Sleep deprivation is a bitch, as is getting up at 4am for work). I've upped my volume the last week or so which is good, I find I can grind for a lot longer now, think it's the exercise ♦ The other day I was rematching this reg and when he finally declined I looked up and the room was pitch black

I've also finally cleared the make up I got myself into when I first played the $60s, which means i'm playing for profit again ♠_cool:

Christmas is upon us, and I absolutely love it ♦ We put our tree up a few days ago and decorated the rest of the house, I do love Christmas!

Since tis' the season to be jolly and all, it's inevitably ends up expensive, as such we're completely life broke atm, so i'm very thankful i've cleared MU and now have the opportunity to make some money to tide us over

So regarding This Promo, I just talked to Wriggers about our coaching session.

Because I have BR for playing 7$, I will step up and take advantage of this coaching and I will play those 7$.

I divided my coaching session in 2 parts :

I) I sent to Wriggers approx 20 7$ SNGs and I am now waiting for his oppinion about my game.

II) After we will talk about my game, I will play for one more week and then we will have a live play or a session review to see my improvements from the first part of coachings.

I hope I will be able to turn from BE to a winning player

Oops, forgot to reply to that ♦ Yeah I did a game review of some of Shinersen's tournaments for 30 mins (Only took 3 attempts to get the video recorded Camstudio sucks balls). I didn't go into anything too in depth with him, just covering fundamentals such as playing a lot more hands IP, and what hands are good/bad to shove when we get to the shallow game. He's playing the $7s now with a very good EV ROI (Not sure on the sample), so in a few days or a week he'll send me over some games against opponents he found tough and i'll go a little more in depth and see if we can improve his game some more

As far as my game is going, it's pretty good. ROI is steadily increasing on $60s and a ton of regs have stopped sitting me, I get the odd one now and again but i'm not bitching about it ♦ It's experience, and a few of them are pretty weak and have a ton of leaks themselves. Since there's a lot of stuff going on at Christmas (A few parties, including the works party tonight which is always incredibly messy, family stuff, extra hours at work) I'm classing this as just over halfway through the poker playing month, got about 500 games played with a 3.4% EV ROI on $60s, so we're heading in the right direction. Come the end of the month i'll be posting my yearly graph, so stay tuned for that!

I managed to hit my start of year goal of $10k profit in poker, with a little (read: quite a lot) of help from the Almighty Poker Gods.

Other than poker, I read the fantastic book Choose Yourself by James Altucher, and it's lit a new found inspiration fire in my stomach, i've been following his "Write 10 ideas down each day" for 2 days now, and subsequently come up with more potential business/product ideas than I have for the past 2 years, if I keep at it maybe I'll have a great idea one day ♦ For now though, I need to focus mainly on poker in order to get some money, since I'm pretty broke thanks to low volume, not really getting paid enough at my job and the general expense of this time of the year.

Focus on poker ---> Build a life roll -----> Start small business(es)

So, happy new year to you all! I was heavily incapacitated for all of yesterday so my apologies for being a bit late 2013 was a fairly big year for me; In a nutshell:

First full year with my girlfriend, and in my own house (It's all gone well, we haven't killed each other and there's only been a few minor arguments )

Went on my first trip to Paris

Bought our beautiful, adoring puppy who will help make us happy for many years to come

Poker wise, I finally found my game. After years of flitting around, convincing myself such and such was the way forward and mainly focussing on the grind of cash games, I finally found a game I can truly enjoy for a long time. HU HYPERS!

With the help of my backers and coaches, moved from the $7 stakes up to being a reg at the $60s, which I think is a fairly good achievement for 10 months

A couple of small milestones I hit this year: First $1k cash in MTT, First $1k month, First $500 day, First $10k year

Pretty swingy month in terms of money, but in terms of buyins no reall downswings or upswings, just a lot of small swings. I feel like I played badly in some spots, ran badly in others, and played a few regs for a while, so my EV ROI is nowhere near as high as i'd like, but i'm going to fix that in the coming month.

Add rakeback onto that and it's $10,539 for the year ♦ You can see pretty clearly where I switched limits, first 1.7k games or so were all $7s, then there's about 3k games of breakeven-ness broken up by my $1.2k HU MTT score, which is all $15s where I ran ~120BI under EV. Once I moved to $30s I quickly made up that deficit and played them over the next 3k games or so. Then the last portion of the graph with larger swings is $60s.

All in all, I think a pretty successful year, next year will be bigger though.

Goals for Next Year

Up my volume, but do it seriously this time. I've told my girlfriend that she has to ask how much i've played every evening, and if it's below 50 games (1 tabling, will up that to 75 or 100 if I 2-table) then she has to force me to play ♦

Up my ROI, it's not as good as it could be on the $60s at the moment, I want it at 4% over a decent sample.

Develop some ideas, a very vague goal but hey-ho!

Finally, my only New Year's Resolution: Quit my job. My goal is to have quit my current job by next year, whether it's because i've got another job, started a business or gone pro in poker or whatever, that doesn't matter. Just as long as I quit.

What if she is away? What if she actually doesn't want you to play because of reasons? How can she force if she wants to? More intrinsic motivation imo, you want to turn pro, you are your own boss.

All fair points Manu. I do generally have the motivation to play, but sometimes I get sidetracked / generally demotivated, which is obv a mental leak i'm trying to fix. For now, having someone else close to me pushing me on will help until the leak is plugged.

Hey, sorry i'm really bad at keeping this updated. Plus i'm super busy at the moment. I need to make Platinum on Stars this month (Okay, I don't need to, but I really want to! ), this aim wasn't aided by the fact we decided to move house 2 weeks ago, the big move is on Saturday. So basically my time has been spent working, packing, playing and sleeping. Fortunately my playing time has paid off pretty well, and i'm up just over $2k this month in 500 games or so, and slightly over halfway to Platinum.

I'm probably pretty much bang on schedule for Platinum, since half this week has been taken up packing, when we move on Saturday we won't have internet until Monday at the earliest. But I have the last part of next week off work, so want to put in 100 games/day then. Will post graphs at the end of the month ♦ At the current rate it will be my best month ever with the $600 worth of FPPs I cash out when I hit Plat Star.

In our new house now, it's lovely Spent every day since Friday moving out, moving in, cleaning, working and ruing my lack of internet. But now we're fully connected, and i've got some catching up to do with my volume. Plat Star is still very much makeable for me and that's what i'm aiming for

Hmm i think yes, it is around 4%ev (less than 4%). Also on 3.5s I was be or losing.

I know my style is exploitable by very aggresive players but they are few on 7s so...i dont really care that much about it.
