Nice to watch the success come to you - I know you've put the work in.

Is your main game still Turbos (I saw a lot of Knock-outs in your recent history on Sharkscope)?

How do find they compare? I've never tried them.

Hope you had an enjoyable Christmas.

Hello,

Well I play both turbo and turbo KO STTs. I think there was a high rate of players registering to those games when I was playing my last session so I just registered to those and save myself 3 minutes lol!

If you extrapolate my results, you can see that my turbo STT volume is more than my KO one or if you "fetch 100 more results" you'll see a mixture of both formats.

About KO Games:
KO STTs are definitely looser for sure. A lot of limpers and even if you raise you'll get like 5 callers at times with almost anything.

Through my own observation there are definitely a lot of fish/recreational players than there are at the turbo STTs because of the bounty.

This makes a decent players edge greater because of the amount of horrible players at the table, think 60/10 lol!

If you look at the leaders on our stake level, they are there because of the KO games. I once searched this guy up from one of the top ranks on that stake and he was a losing player at the turbo STTs, but a killer at the KO games.

This reinforced my claim that KO games are full of recreational/fishy players.

Personally I played normal STTs first then played KO games because ICM is a little different because of the bounty. A slightly -EV call may be actually +EV if you consider your chances of obtaining another bounty from winning the hand.

If it appeals to you then I would definitely recommend it because it's literally a gold mine over there. You gotta deal with the swings though which can get a little frustrating at times.

See you at the tables sometime Ramble!

Decided not to play any poker today.

I am very frustrated because I signed up to a SNG training site yesterday and my status hasn't been updated yet to view the content.

LIKE WTF?

So I figure it's best to not play in this mood I am in right now because I'll just lash out 10 buy-ins before I call it quits and then lash out another 5 before I actually quit lol.

I can play tired, but not pissed.

Weekly graph on Monday!

Hey, I watched the video you put up on youtube (J4o spot).

I agree his AQo call is wrong.

You're shoving into two players SB 16bb BB 21bb, I don't think a shove is optimal against those stacks. Depending on your stealing style up until that hand you should be 2.5x-3x raising and folding to anything coming back.

The reason I don't like shoving with this high an effective stack is that you're giving up your edge post flop a bit early. Say you raise 2.5x and get a smooth call, you're going to know when you're behind against that range and you have position. If the short stack wasn't so short, you'd be able to exploit the fear factor of the other stacks, taking the pot with c-bet most of the time.

I'm interested to hear what you think. Great blog btw :)

THanks Tim!

always a pleasure to see you posting in my blog :)

Well I started this week off pretty rocky...

Down 12 buy-ins which is normal for SNG's for me.

Last week's graph:

Pretty happy with the results so far.

Definitely looking forward on moving up to the 3.50s after new years.

I'm looking into buying a new monitor strictly for poker and I found a few that I like, but I haven't done enough information on them yet to see if they're actually good for poker.

Made SNG leader board too so that's an extra $10.00 USD my way.

I'm also 771/1000 for the $50.00 vpp which means I gotta grind like no tomorrow the next two days.

*RANT*

AHHHHHH today was such a god damn bad day! People overvalue AK so damn much and play stupid hands during the early blinds for these KO games because they want a damn bounty. People flopping trips on me like they have freaking 83s and the flop is 233 and I'm like awesome my KK is good here.

But that's why KO games are such a gold mine, I just gotta suck it up and continue playing. I've dealt with swings before and I won't do the same thing before when the last big downward spiral happen -- Spew, spew!!

I'm off to bed now.

Got my A$$ whooped at the $3.50s today..

Down 9.5 buy-ins overall, but there was a point where I was down 14 buy-ins which was freaking crazy because I was playing how I was playing at the $1.50s

I definitely gotta step my game up and probably cut down on tables from 10 to like 4 so I can get a grip of things before I decide to mass table.

134vpps to go before I get the 50 dollar stellar reward.

EDIT: Right at the end of my graph you can see a huge downward spiral, I was mass tabling and playing for VPPs to try and reach my 5,000 vpp goal before the new year. I just played everything from hypers to fifties and 28 tabling (yes I really did 28 table) STTs to grind towards my goal.

Where all the "$" is, that was my time at the $3.50s where I got destroyed.

BLOG
Overall, 2013 was a pretty good year for me. This is the first time I've played over 5,000 games in one year.

I am extremely proud of myself for achieving 5,000 VPPs because that's me going above and beyond my known zone so-to-speak.

Although I played 5,000 games, they were mixtures between fifties, 6 max SNGs and FR SNGs.

I think it was good for me to expose myself to different types of games available to me and to see which one I liked the most. Honestly, I think I have a pretty good edge at $1.50 STTs, but I am struggling a little bit at the $3.50s.

Just like I have had troubles with FR STTs from the beginning and getting better, I have no doubt that I can one day beat the $3.50s.

Furthermore, I learned a valuable lesson this year and that is sometimes we have to sacrifice time, sleep and other things in order to be successful.

It's easy to say that you'll play 100 SNGs today and that it'll be no problem, but once you sit down on your computer chair and you start your session, eventually down the road, the grind is going to take its toll on you.

There's just so many things that I want to say and I wish I could go back in time when I first started playing poker and tell myself the stuff that I know today like bankroll management, thinking longterm, don't tilt (try not to), and other things.

Lastly, I never thought that I could actually efficiently 17 table 1.50 STTs at the same time. When I was 6 tabling, I thought the max for me would have been 10, but I kept pushing and pushing myself and now I am at 17 tables. Who knows how many I'll be able to do this year.

There's also a lot of other things in my personal life that happened in 2013 like me taking a long break from poker because I lost my motivation, meeting someone special and what-not, but it's just going to be too long so I'm just going to cut it here.

Thank you for reading my blog!

Take Care,

Maythany

Well, the start of my new years grind didn't go too well. My internet is horrible right now so I have to cut my game early at 63 games.

I wanted to put in at least 100 games on a daily basis 20 tabling so I can reach my goal by the end of the month, but lately I've been contemplating whether or not it's worth all the sacrifice.

I've been running into the nuts lately and there's not much I can do, but keep playing. I'm going to play 5,000 games just to see if my results were a fluke or not. I don't think it is, but I just want to get used to these swings and control my tilt at times before I move up.

Damn!! I am so damn laggy right now!

About my goal thing, I mean I want it, but is it really worth the 3 hour sleeps I am going to take every now and then? Playing every single day? I love poker, and I have a genuine interest in it, but sometimes I wonder if I should invest my time in something else like maybe reviewing my stuff before I go back to school or find someone to have a relationship with.

So what are we willing to sacrifice in order to be successful?

I'm not a little boy anymore and I'm done procrastinating poker wise too. Only time will tell I suppose.

Great review session today - glad we could make it happen.

I think it is great to see the spots that we agree on (makes me feel like my decisions aren't terrible), but I really love talking about the spots where we would take different lines. I think the biggest thing I took away from today was that I don't watch the pot-size enough in relation to my stack - something you seem to do very well.

Looking forward to our next session.

The session yesterday has got me thinking, particularly about min bet/shove, min bet/fold ranges (just not with 9bb ).
I'm going to try and construct some ranges for next time.. interested to see what you'll think of them.

have a great week!

Hello,

Today my new monitor got delivered and it's freaking awesome!! It's a 24 inch dell ultrasharp 24 inch monitor at 1920x1200 resolution.

I can 16 table if it's needed, but at 12 it's the best because there's not really any overlap.

Check it out!Click Here

I only played 20 games today which is horrible TBH, I should be getting at least 60 in daily, but I'm going to slowly add in more games once I get comfortable with the new monitor.

It's freaking huge!!!

Maythany

February Goals:

Gold Status on PokerStars

Long Term Goals (2014):

-Stop looking at daily results
- Efficiently grind 25 tables (20)
-Move up stakes alongside my poker peers
- Constantly improve my game to be at the competitive level

Lately, I've been unmotivated to play poker. I'm down 15.5 buy-ins for turbo STTs, but up 19 buy-ins for turbo KO games so far this year.

Only 229 games this year which is horrible IMO because I should have 10X that amount by now. I decided to search up motivational videos on youtube and realized that the only reason I played so many games in December was because I set goals for myself.

Reaching 5,000 vpps and just finding my confidence again. Although I am running bad for the turbo stt game, I am still confident in my ability at the game.

One thing I think stands out about me is I genuinely love poker. Even when I'm not playing poker I'm here at the forums just scrolling around or watching poker videos on youtube.

What really deterred me from playing was the horrendous results which means I am becoming too results orientated which I know I shouldn't be, but it's easier said than done.

So my goals for this year is 5,000 STTs and make gold status by the end of February. Setting goals is very important and hopefully I fill this void in me about how I am feeling about everything.

Maythany

Hi maythany,

Have to say, real inspirational blog! Thanks for this!

Playing the 1 dollar STT turbo on Pokerstars but not this massive volume like you! So wondering how you build it up.

Playing 4 tables tiled myself so not stacked, tried to stack 6 tables yesterday and must say I felt myself 'rushed' to a point where I just started clicking the fold button :P (don't like to keep people waiting :P ) Any tips on this?

You inspired me to setup my own blog, hopefully will help my motivation!

Hope not to see you at the poker table ;)

As of today I am officially -48.66 buy-ins for the turbo STTs.

I am up for KO turbo STTs

That's one sick downward spiral!

Honestly, a few months back I would have been pretty pissed off that I lost that amount, but I just don't feel anything to those staggering losses.

Is it because my mindset's becoming better? Possibly....I've lost amounts close to that before so it's probably through repetition did I become more tolerable of it??

After reviewing some hands where I lost there were some hands that I regret which probably set me back maybe 4 buy-ins (just a theory).

I don't know my true ROI yet so it's hard to say where I really stand.

I'm also pretty sure my ROI will decrease a little because of me mass tabling, but the cash bonuses can make up for some ROI lost.

I'm still pretty confident in my game, I downloaded a bunch of videos about STTs so I'm going to be watching those videos and reading the mental game of poker when I can.

This coming February I'm going to make the 1 month plunge into gold status by playing 2500+ 1.50 Turbo Stts which is a personal goal of mine.

Take Care,

Maythany
