well, the thing with "throwing links" is that it's really not fun to teach someone from the absolute zero, and if someone's not willing to put in the effort to at least check out the basics here it's definitely not worth it.

True, what we mean by "throwing links" in this case is not that we just link him to this site and let him fend for himself. We would just want to give him a starting point and a source of studying material.
After that, we can and should still assist him to discuss concepts, or watch him play and give advice.

Bots

How many on-line poker players come across bots?
Personally i do not know why anyone would want to use a BOT to play poker with.I play too to get better and get a rush when my game progresses .

BOTS are there and we wont get rid off them ,So i think the sites should make a table where BOTS play BOTS,

Day 16

Do breaks from poker actually exist? What is a break from poker? I see it everywhere.. Im going to take a break for a while. What is a while? 1 day? 1 week? 1 month? How can you use this time in the break and how long should the break be?

I've taken some breaks before. It's when I feel burned up a bit or something. When I've been playing for to long to many days I get crazy on the table and don't play my A-game anymore. Then I take a break… Usually I just don't play anymore but rather study, but also spend the day doing other things.

I had some 'forced' breaks as well. When I'm with the GF I usually don't play. I don't mind if it doesn't last to long.

After a break I'm usually more relaxed when I'm playing and I'm able to focus better. Getting out of line or pull off some stupid bluff happens less often then.

How long should be a break? It depends I guess. Usually until I feel I'm not going to go crazy anymore. 2-3 days? My longest was 1 week.

I used to think taking a break would be the worst idea in the world, but not too long ago I had a pretty bad downswing, and everytime I sat down at the tables I was prepared to drop some BI's and had a feeling that I had no idea what I was doing. I also started thinking what if I never will be able to beat the game again? Can I really just stop playing poker for good?

I decided to take a break for a week, looked at the big hands and realized the majority was pretty standard situations (some tilt), but I ralized I would be good enough to beat the game, but I needed time to think about life, have fun and clear my mind simply to stop thinking about losing.

It helped me a ton and I would recommend everyone to do the same if the ever get in a similar situation!

I've played other games and sometimes I just went a bit stale, so I had to take a break or start losing. A few days was often enough to come back refreshed. I do the same in poker and it works there to.

I believe you are better off creating a new thread. This thread right here is intended as a discussion of specific daily questions.

About today's question, the only time I took longer breaks (= over a week) was when I needed to concentrate on something else, like for example when I had to work on my thesis for university.
When I was taking breaks due to downswings/tilt/idiotic play, I think they usually were no longer than one or two days, and I used them to focus on theory. I preferred playing lower volumes over taking outright breaks.

Sorry for the short sabbatical.

Day 20

Should software such as scripts, data inning and table seat selection be available to players?

No!
Grow some balls and play any and all. Those that you don't beat at least serve as a reminder that you can get much better with appropriate application.

So says the NL10 fish that is years away from having to concern himself with hourly rates to pay the bills :f_biggrin:

Day 20:
I guess you know my views on these.
Really bad for the poker economy long term and sad that this is becoming the norm and being promoted...

EDIT: Relevant to this topic: Pokerstrategy.com advocating bumhunting and being predators against fish

^^ Fact.
Sadly it will take one of the main sites to take the leap and ban such software - temporarily sacrificing some edge to their competitors as some regs move to sights where they can still bumpunt ---> then they come back as original sight gets softer --> rinse repeat until more sights join the merry-go-round.
Doesn't sound so bad for the clients but someone has got to take the leap
(Hope its Sars, we're chums.)

Just wondering if you share the same views about HUDs and tracking software as well? I mean from the point of view that fish don't use HUDs (may not even know they exist) I know for a fact that I didn't know about them either until I joined here. Where do you cross the line? So all educational weapons be taken away in your opinion?

Yep I do.
If only we could get back to using only hem or pt for tracking our results and review our hands.
And again I am not against educational material absolutely not. But Tablescanturbo is far from being one...it is a fish hunting program and imo has nothing to do in our poker world

OK cool, I think you misinterpreted what I meant when I said educational weapons. What I meant was aids that not all players have/aware of. That's cool, it's either you can have everything or have nothing situation for me. I rarely use tracking software personally.

Day 22

Should there be a maximum cap on the amount of tables a player can play and what should that cap be?

22: The max that the software can handle, other than that, no.

6 (for normal 6-max tables, for HU or fast-fold - 2). Beyond that, unnatural pauses and timeouts start happening, ruining the pleasure for recs. Of course this can be increased if the player shows the supernatural ability to act lightning fast.
