The question is not where the builder would end up. The questions where would WE end up.

My guess is that we would be happily playing poker.
The builder would be happily building stuff, and probably still banging too loudly.

If the builder is an OK sport, with reasonable intelligence, he would likely end up as a decent recreational reg at NL 10 to NL 25.

If he is stubborn, is unwilling to put in the study time (or a host of other vices that get in the way), he may end up tilted, frustrated and angry.

Good question though.

Maybe take a random mathematician instead, and get two coaches to bring him along to NL 100 in the course of a year and maybe write a book about the experience.

I'd buy it.

I believe it's obviously a % situation but i believe mostly between NL10-NL50.

I think nl200 would be fairly easily achievable if he was willing to put in the hours required.

Please explain how you're gonna persuade the builder to play lol 2NL for a significant amount of time and with variance when he could do his real job with a salary that satisfies him and no variance. People don't turn their lives around that easily.

He is offered to live with them under the same conditions as them I assume which likely is better than how one would live with a "normal" salary. So I don't see why he wouldn't be motivated to learn.

I also think people are underestimating the value of having 3 midsatke regs spoon feeding one with all the information one could need to move up the limits. I say that if he is applying him self to study hard and play ~100,000 hands a month he should easily beat NL100 if not NL200.

A 50nl reg starts the wsop main event with 30,000 chips, How many chips would Phil Ivey need to start with for it to be handicapped and the, both have the same roi?

Well, with all respect, Ivey is rather a cash game specialist (as opposed to Hellmuth and Negreanu), so I'd put him on a merely two-digit ROI, like 80%, and an ordinary reg with no prior live experience on like 20%; so Ivey's stack should be 30000 * 1.20 / 1.80 = 20000 chips.

'Coaching for profit' (for a share of the difference between your profits before and after the coaching) does exist but this discussion doesn't belong into this thread, here we answer pleno1's clever questions... gl with getting a CFP deal with that tilty mindset

well i thought the topic name was fitting Afterall i did talk about poker, but i suppose i should have posted it elsewhere. ty

edit: also tony, i havent actually 'tilted' per se, was more like disappointed in myself after i realized i put my tournament life in hands of a ... pair. Sure i was a bit shaken but i didnt tilt until i lost like every single allin i could have, and my day ended losing with AAA-QQ fh vs quad Q's, at which point i just decided to call it a day. 4 out of those 5 times i was a clear fav (except that fh hand, where i was drawing dead but was there really a way to get out of that hand?).

Im still relatively new to all this so while i realize most of you guys wouldnt pay attention to stuff like that, i believe it takes some time to get used to it.

Which is the best place you've ever played live poker in and why? A tiny write up of the place would be cool too

Only played live once

I never played live poker for money, but I remember one casual play money game quite well. It was in my last year at school, on a trip to Verdun. We were playing in our hostel in Niederbronn-les-Bains, in a room overlooking a huge World War I cemetery (15,413 graves), at night during a thunderstorm.

It was the first time I ever used an actual chip set, and the first game I ever took kind of seriously - up until then, I was only vague familiar with the rules.
If I hadn't participated in that game, maybe I wouldn't be playing poker today.

I'm full of bad experiences from live play in hungary. My sample is less than 10 tho. The field was always amazing, but the workers never took it quite as seriously as they should've imo.

One time this cashier basically laughed at my friend when he payed his beverage from a different wallet than his buyin.

Other time (other place) the dealer made loud comments about how often my friend openraised. Ridiculous.

Other time(other place) I just disliked that there was a really offensive player and imo the staff waited way too long before acting.

Not to mention the police raid when one of the places didnt have the necessary permits ♦ I'm happy I didnt go that night.

I'm a poker player wi a terrible diet. I eat too many fast food meals. I drink too much red bull and I eat too much snacks.
