I'm a poker player wi a terrible diet. I eat too many fast food meals. I drink too much red bull and I eat too much snacks.

What's your advice?

Don't try to change all those habits together... you'll fail :) . Choose the easier to get rid off, start small to see big changes. Eliminate one habit at time.

It depends. Do you eat snacks because you like them, or you eat just because you're hungry.
You should replace fast food with some healthier meals, redbull with juices and water, and choose fruits as a snack :)

Imho the first habit to get rid of is drinking Red Bull, replacing it by tons of water (and a pee bottle). I once drank free leftovers of Red Bull at a student party, for a total of like 4 cans... I wonder how I survived then without getting a heart attack

Snacks during a session aren't that bad - they have a benefit of not requiring cooking... but ideally that should be replaced by walnuts (not sweets!) as well. (Yeah, they taste terribly, but drinking a lot of water kills the aftertaste.)

It's Saturday 23rd July. Games are soooo good but my gf wants to go out to a restaurant. We get home and she's sad that I want to go to the pc. I wake up in the morning and instead of taking the trash I go and check pokerstrategy on my phone, she gets pissed. (This isn't real btw, doubt I ever wake up in the morning!

How do you deal with managing your love life with being a poker player?

Back when I played a lot I always bought the little lady a gift or took her for a fancy meal whenever I made a final table.

Probably explains why she never got fat

Didn't Doyle say that he was giving his lady the same amount of money monthly, so that she didn't feel the variance? :f_biggrin:

I only see the GF during the weekends, I don't do poker during the weekends. But she always says I can play whenever I want. Not sure if serious.

She is very serious. However "whenever I want" is a two-edged sword.
She is looking for you to "not want" when she is around.

Imo this is the most interesting question so far.

I think a good partner should respect your work as a poker player. If you are a (semi-)professional, then this is your job. Can she be mad at you if you work at a regular job on a weekend? Ofc not, it would be ridiculous.

Of course you shouldn't go too far, like if she only has freetime on the weekends then ofc you should go out with her, and if you have your best friends birthday then you shouldn't grind either But, as much as it is possible, she should try to get freetime on weekdays too, changing shifts and whatever.

Alternatively, you can tell her that you will play in weekdays instead of your weekend sessions, and ask her to pay the expected difference of your profit. That should open her mind

One more thing, always clarifying your grind-time in advance will help. If you tell her that you want to grind on saturday in advance, then she'll probably find her gfs and have fun with them, so everyone is happy.

Day 17

An aggressive regular opens the button and you decide to 3bet with 100bb stacks.

Flop 842r

What should our check folding range look like?

I don't play cash anymore, but shouldn't we c-bet as much as possible on 3-bet pots OOP? I suppose at least on smaller stakes people tend to fold too much against c-bets on 3-bet pots.

Off-suit middle cards w/ only backdoor draws -- or no draws at all -- would be hard to continue with.

I'm interested in this one, because I see it a lot w/ two nice overcards -- AQo for example -- and not connection to the board at all.

If you're talking About defending from BB i think we have a lot more hands to c/f since we're defending wider.
Hands like K6o Q7o etc with no BD's. Maybe more offsuit hands.

If it's from SB probably more suited hands at the top of our folding range we decided to 3b.
Q9s Axs etc with no BD's

Some small PP we we're planning to 3b/5b

Also obv depends on sizing. I'd assume an aggro reg would be opening 2x or so, but if his sizing is larger our defending ranges change
