A balancing act

Hello PS,

I have been playing using ninjatile for a month now, and I am also going through a terrible downswing.

Not sure if the two are connected, but I'm making very few FT's. And among the ft's I make, my percentage for top 3 places is really high.

One reason for this might be that during the FT stages, I've moved to the tile mode. Can keep track of players better and play better poker? Don't have too much volume, but this could be a possiblity.

Which brings me to: Has anyone successfully made a multiple layers of 6 tables tiled layout? The tables on the lower stack keep timing out on me. Do share your ninja/stars settings if you have managed this.

Will try both the methods out and see

EDIT: nvm, solved it. Turns out TN2 was causing the messups. Allowing stars software to handle the popping up makes it much better, though i might misclick in some rare instance.

Not a bad start really, was a pure and simple DS, no tilt happened. Not tilting in the face of 20 BI DS's now, getting a little more zen. Probably time to move up to where i'm shitting my pants!

Forum is empty these days, tsk tsk. Hope everyone is too busy grinding/working hard/ otherwise enjoying life.

Spoke to sim5, and he is of the opinion that I should move to the 180 mans asap. Presently comfortable playing the 45's and was planning to move to the $7 games, but his advice does have merit: the 180's are a better training ground for MTT's.

Will try them out after some study. Till then will continue grinding the 45's since im on a steady upward line there.

Had a few good sessions, and have many hands to post.

I noticed that my bb/100 is very low: only about 2 bb/100, and Ev is 4bb/100. Does this stat have any significance at all for the tourney player?

Been trying this move out: when I have a 10-12 BB stack, and Im not too excited about shoving the SB, I complete, and then bet any flop. Have been getting a lot of respect:

Have been too cautious with my roll, going to grind a little higher today.

12 BI shot at the $7s in the works. Have reviewed histories and done a lot of nash analysis on my FT's. Time to put my knowledge to the test!

Decentish session: 1 first place, 2 6th places and 2 bubbles. Was a bit passive in the later stages, and ran better than I played.

Hmmm I don't know if the completing strategy is the best. Any hand is going to hit 33% of the time. Plus he might shove light once he figures you out. I think if I was doing it, I might just complete with even AA and KK to trap anyone who is trying to exploit it.

You might be right, but most hands that would be helped by these high boards Ax, Kx, would probably show pre anyway, at these blinds. Against the rest, a flat might appear stronger than a shove?

It could be argued that who folds to my flop bet might fold to my pre min-raise as well, but I think that this thing is working. Will try it some more, and compare against fold to min-raise data.

Still doing that move and they aren't catching on. Limp donk has won me lots of chips. There's no real way to do a true test if it is valid though, will need a large sample and do stats on it. In anycase, I doubt it will work at any higher levels, but useful weapon at the small stakes

Settled myself in the $7 games now: feels good to be out of the micros! Hope I never have to go back.

Works like a charm at lower limits against weaker opponents especially weaker regs

But doesnt always work at higher limits
On those A high boards a lot of good thinking regs would put you all in on the flop if u lead out on that board
You yourself are not repping anything there as most of your own Ax hands wouldve been all in preflop in that spot and its tough for you to call if by chance you caught a middle/bottom pair

Be carefull doing this against good regs at the 7s or 15s

I am not saying limp stab strategy is wrong but not all boards are good for limp stab against good regs, especially not A high boards

No no, neither really. Having a small winning month, flitting between the 3.5's and the 7's depending on risk tolerance and focus.

I'm really considering Prabhjot's advice and thinking of moving to the 180 mans.

My late game placing distributions over the last couple months has been quite cool:
1st: 29
2nd:18
3rd:18
4th:25 5th:21 6th:17 7th:10 8th: 20 9th:15 10th:18

My itm% is about 16%, which is pretty low. I see large bumps in the bubbles: FT bubble, true bubble and the podium finish bubble.

Is that a leak, or just the effects of being aggressive, which led to the large number of first place finishes? Other sng, mtsng players: could you find your own distributions and let me know what they look like?

I think it's pretty decent
Don't stress too much on it yet its a very small sample to come to any conclusion

Didn't feel like it at all, but I put more volume this month than I have before. Makes me feel good, because that means my capacity is much more

February challenges:

Play 300 $7 45 man games.
Play and study 180 mans: 1 week exclusively

Volume still needs to be increased a bit i think

I played the 7 45s when i was a bit bored with STTs, And theyre quite soft as well, pretty sure you can crush them

For 180s i suggest you work with Prabjhot, we did a session today and found some major points that most regs at 180s dont follow

Took a loong break from poker and I'll be back at the tables in the weekend. I was ill for a week, followed by some weekend travel, and then spent a week at a friend's place doing non poker stuff.
