Ain't No Rest For The Righteous
Hi. I've decided to start a blog here. I'm not sure of my reasons for doing so. Vanity? Egotistical thought process? Or what I keep telling myself, that I can inspire others? I may find out through the process.
The blog name is in itself silly. I myself do not consider myself righteous. It is more of a play on words from the old saying "Ain't no rest for the wicked." You see, after soul searching for some time about my place in this world I came to the conclusion that each and every one of us was placed here to build a legacy of doing great deeds for others. Once I realized this I started to purse it. I realized that to truly go after this goal you really have to focus and work continually, and this is where the blog name comes from.
Some back story on myself.
I grew up in a middle class family in one of the most expensive places to live in the world. The lifestyle was good and made for a very inward focused view of the world. Comfort was my only concern and I cared little about much except my own well being.
Fast forward to 2010 and I'm 25, married, and have no focus or general goals in life. And one day it hits me. In 50-60 years I will be dead and my impact will have been nothing. I will have quite literally been a waste of space making no impact on the world.
I decided to start seeking. Two years later and I come I the realization that I have a large earning potential. I'm blessed with a good job and the brainpower to multiply earnings. My job isn't what is holding me back from doing what I want. It's a tool or a stepping point to start making others lives happy. I then start giving away a portion of every paycheck I receive.
Back to the present. I still dislike my job and have ambitions of starting businesses, accumulating wealth in the stock market (already taken good strides here), and to trade forex on a semi daily to daily frequency (taken baby steps here). I also would like to use poker as a tool. Poker is my love. It's the ultimate video game. It provides a level playing field for all and the reward is money! What a concept.
My playing history is long and mostly uninteresting. Started in 2007 and since then have been an overall loser in online cash, break even at online mtts, winner at live cash, and a winner at live mtts.
With my job and a family playing live is no longer an option. I work anywhere from 60-80 hours a week just at my day job, and have little time for anything else. My dream would be to spend 4 hours a day playing poker, 4 hours a day dealing with my businesses, all the whole have a few forex graphs up in the background so I can trade good setups, and use my stock portfolio as a longterm investment tool that has money funneled to it from the previous three items. That is the dream.
The reality is much different. My daily earning potential is $600 cdn. In a year that will bump up to $680 a day. Now I don't realize this day in and day out as that would require me to work 16 hours everyday. The reality is more along the lines of 12 hours average a day. On top of this are two important things. Medical coverage for my family and a very strong pension plan. This leaves me with the reality that if I want to live my dream life I would need roughly ~3 million dollars churning out interest to make up for my yearly salary.
The chances look bleak. But there is a wonderful government program in Canada called maternity/paternity leave that is available to people who have a new born child. The government will pay you 70% of your income for 9 months so you can stay at home and adjust to life with your child. This is my opportunity to spend 9 months trying out my "dream."
My wife and I are trying for a second child now and that means I have between 9-12 months if all goes well to set up what I need to be prepared. This means pay off all credit cards and other debt other than the mortgage. Have a few thousand dollars in the forex account. Have at least 1k in the poker account . And I already have my business idea.
The likelihood of me being back to my day job after 9 months is likely 99.999%. I'm ok with that. I just want the shot to make it big so that I can make others lives better. Every dollar I make through poker or trading 10% will be donated.
What do I do until then? Well start a poker blog of course.
The plan is to start off at the very bottom to get my skill base back up. It's been a whole since I have actually tried to play poker on a serious level. That is why I am going to start super slow.
I have played 10k hands of nl2 rush and I will be updating every 10k hands from here out. In between will be fun hands I have played. My goal is too move up at 50 buy ins for now and we will see where that takes me. I'll make more specific goals later but for now the monetary value of $2 for me literally does not exist and I'm purely concentrating on playing the best poker I can and learning as much as I can.
