Just got back from playing a tournament at the local casino, 20k starting stack with 20 min blinds.
I'm dealt JJ on the sb and it folds round to me, the blinds are 1500 - 3000 with 500 ante, I have about 85k, just hovering over average stack but the third largest stack on the table. 111 runners started and we are down to 22, top 11 cash. We are 7 handed at this point.
I raise it to 10.5k and the bb calls me, flop comes down K62 rainbow, I c bet 17.5 and he raises me 35k, without thinking about it too much.
I was confident before the flop and even when the flop came out but his raise makes me think for a bit and i eventually go all in. I have no idea if this is the right play or not, I keep going over it my head but I dont think I can fold to his raise, it is blind vs blind, he could have easily called me with like A6 and he just thought I was stealing or hell he could have been getting fancy with nothing maybe. But then I think his raise was kinda small but we were fairly even in stack, he had me covered by about 20k, I'd already put in 28.5k so the pot was pretty big so the small raise might have just been to feel out where he was with his weakish hand.
I mean maybe I could call the raise and see what happens on the turn but if I check he goes all in regardless probably, the turn was actually an A so maybe i could call then shove, he maybe folds though I doubt it but if the card was anything else but an A he isnt scared if he does have a King.
I could fold but to me it seems pretty weak to fold a strong hand like JJ blind vs blind with only one overcard.
We did have some previous, it was a limp pot and I was bb with T6, he had limped in early, T was top pair so I led out 4.6k and he raised me 11k, i ended up folding and he showed middle pair. So I guess that was in the back of my mind as well.
Well anyway he snap calls and shows K4 to win and knock me out, really annoying to go out when I had been playing for a good 5 hours and so close to the money as well when there were much smaller stacks than me still clinging in.
So yeah what is the right play here? did I make the mistake preflop by not raising enough? Should I have just shoved? I mean i wanted some action with JJ but in hindsight i should have just maybe taken the bb and the antes. Should I have just snapped all in when he raised to give him something to think about, thinking for so long meant he knew his K was good so it was easy for him to call, maybe he still calls but at least he would have to think about it.
