Hm they must be doing something right if they are profitable on 30s and 60s pre rb?
Omba for my taste is too tight but if we go that road I would say it for most of the regs
I always remember another 30s reg from Serbia KajzerSose who for years makes solid ROI there with very tight stats and game overall.
I would compare his game to omba's.We can say whatever we want but that style they do takes a lot of discipline to fold 80%+ of hands from any position

I respect what they do - we don't have to use the same road to get to the end result.
Thank you and gl with your games - I think I have recognized who you are (if you are Limels from 15s and 30s!)

You shouldn't have taxation problems in Canada, though, as you can act as a legit guitar coach.

In that article they described person who is multitabler works on their game and treats it as his business but still got labeled as tax free income guy.
It seems to me that they can just randomly decide to audit you and also randomly make the decision if you have to pay the tax or not - am I wrong thinking that?
Key phrases in relation to business vs hobby apply to many things beside poker.
The main things they look at are:
♦ Expectation of profit. Many people try to claim their hobby as a business so that they can deduct the "business losses" against other income. You can do this for a while, but they're not easily duped in the tax dept.
♦ Primary source of income. If poker is your only (or main) source of income then it is likely that they would consider it your business. At that point, there are a whole lot of expenses that can be deducted from your poker income.
It boils down to this:
If poker is your business, treat it as such. Keep careful, accurate and honest records. CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) has -- for me at least -- been very easy to deal with. They had all sorts of statistical ways to flag accounts that "stick out" from the rest. If yours comes to their attention, and you provide them the paperwork, and it matches what you reported, they're happy and you're happy. They will usually find some minor mistake to justify their existence -- and sometimes it is even in the taxpayer's favour. Just don't bet on it. ![]()
I would also like some additional info from you if you don't mind VS?
Would I need some work visa to move to Canada to grind on PS or I can do it with tourist visa also? How would work visa work then?
I'm not qualified to answer this, since I've never needed one. In case what I think is wrong, I think it best you find out from them:

Can you use Skrill master card when purchasing things or using ATM to withdraw money?
I'm pretty sure that if it is a MasterCard, it is good world wide no matter what bank is behind it.
How much are dental and medical expenses yearly to have everything covered basically?
Here is the information for British Columbia:
http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/msp/infoben/premium.html
Each province administers their own health care plan.
You must be a resident 6 months before you qualify. You do not need proof of health (AFAIK).
Dental is not covered. I don't know how much dental work costs, because I am enrolled in a dental plan through my employer and thus pretty much everything is covered.
What are expenses like living in Toronto or in Vancouver? I am interested in those cause they have big Serbian community which is always a plus (being away from home but feeling like at home when needed).
No matter how much you earn, you will be able to spend all of it. ![]()

I heard that in Canada medical insurance is free which is awesome if its true compared to USA where you have to pray not to get sick/ill as it will cost you crazy much to do anything.
Really appreciate your answers in advance - Canada is definitely a place I am considering for moving if it comes to it.
Well it isn't free (see above). Under certain circumstances -- single mom for example -- the gov't will waive the medical insurance premium.
But yes, in Canada if you're dying of some disease, you won't die because you're broke.

They are not stupid, even if I did guitar lessons or there, that main income would have to be sufficient enough to cover all living expenses. I have to charge 100$ an hour guitar lessons to make a living there while doing poker as a hobby.
There must be some other way, like claiming somebody supports me while living there and such.

Again fantastic response and very useful info - much appreciated VS!
Already checked for Serbia, I will need tourist or work visa, depending on how long I would stay or work there. I know people who got immigration visas for Canada and heard that Canada offers that to a lot of people because they need workers there?
Not sure how much that is true but everybody that I know and I know about 5+ people who applied for immigration visa for Canada got it without any problems - much easier then getting USA papers.
So I can basically claim that I expect to make like 10k a year whatever to cover my holidays and house renovations etc and they won't be able to prove I am making a real living that way ![]()
You wrote somewhere that once they tax you it is 12%? That ain't too much, I expect here in Serbia to be 20% minimum tax (once whole law goes in place) which adds up quite a lot over the years.
I will let you know if I get more questions, for now I will study all the things you sent me - appreciate it all once more VP !

You've got confused, it was me who wrote it about Belarus. (The Russian rate is theoretically 13% flat, but almost all our poker players succeed at hiding the income.) In Canada, the rate is progressive, 15-29% federal + 5-18% provincial (for a breakeven SNE living in British Columbia - that's where most grindhouses are - it's about 30% total).
Edit: you'll likely make $150K-200K yearly as an SNE due to winning pre-RB, and it will be a good news anyway, despite the tax rate becoming over 35%.

Actually to be precise poker incomes are tax free as long as those come from poker sites registered to ETA area. I only play in Stars so taxes are going to be 0 indeed. Also if I go to some live event that is in ETA its tax free. But if I go e.g. to vegas and ship some tourney it would be taxed. I think it would be around 30%, but not sure.
Well "basic things" like food or gasoline are pretty expensive here. One of most expensive countries in Europe. Lot of other stuff is also cheaper to order from e.g. Germany or UK. Electricity is quite cheap AFAIK, but on other hand during winter time house heating tends to consume it a lot. Have electricity and wood heating options.
I have my own house so no rental expenses. Not sure how much living expenses really sum up. Its less than 2k$ anyway

That doesn't sound too bad, 12%. Where else is lower than that, if we omit tax free Canada and unregulated countries?
Really look forward to what they will do to regulate it all in Serbia. Definitely plan to stay here long term but travel for longer periods abroad in future.
I don't know many SNE guys who will have pre RB profit. From top of my head I can point out 2 guys that plays SNGs turbos - Ghaleon and Ponchua. I expect they will make more then 100k post RB. However I am not sure if they will make 200k post rb, would say more like 50k pre and 100 k post rb max. Knowing and following Ghaleon who mixes 4 different game types and plays 25+ tables, win rates are hard to sustain but he still manages to do it. Ponchua does 6 9 and 18 man and is profitable pre RB mixing 30s to 200s.
I am personally looking into options for SNE next year.
Would definitely like to be ready to beat 30s with minimum 4-5%, 60s 2-3% pre RB and 100s BE if possible through out the year.
Have to do more exact calculations in terms of average buy ins, games running on those higher limits and expected VPPs per hour.
The more that I think about it, the more I feel mixing game types would be required so I might do some 9 man by the end of the year (review ICM for 9 man and bubble) and then go for 30-100s 6 and 9 man (perhaps that could be enough). Also 15 tables ain't going to cut it so have to get it to 20 without headaches for 5-6 hours minimum daily grind.
I got offered coaching and staking deal for SNE which would last 18 months by SNE crusher who has great win rate pre RB. What I know now is that I would not go down hypers road as games are in last 2 years getting ridiculously reg infested and positive ROI is like a fairy tale. I would prefer to do turbos, even mix game types like Ghaleon and Ponchua do and have positive ROI less variance and make again 100k+ post rb with less stress.
I am still thinking about it, will write more about everything in detail if I do make a decision to go for it.
In the meanwhile feel free to post your opinion on it.
Worst case scenario , 500k VPPs would be reachable mixing 30s and 60s 6 max through out the year getting that 45% RB for SNGs with very solid pre RB earnings. Just RB alone on 500k is 40.800$ which leaves another 50k + to make in 12 months pre RB to match SNE BE. Assuming that 10 months we would grind, rest 2, that's 5k+ a month pre RB winnings. Having avg buy in of 45$ (mixing 30s and 60s) with 3k games a month with 4% ROI would bring us 5400$ pre RB.
I personally don't know many players who have this win rate mixing those two limits and grinding 30k games a year but I strongly believe that is achievable. 54k pre RB + 40.8k RB=94.8K with 30k SNGs and 4% ROI mixing 30s and 60s evenly without BOP or any special promotions like golden SNGs etc.
Taking coaching and staking for SNE is always somewhere in my mind but I think first year you give somebody minimum 40k+ for coaching that you get and BR but you are the one that has to go through all the swings and grind like a lab rat.
I think grinding 30s steady can easily get 40k+ post RB. Even think if I can teach myself to crush 30s that 60s will also be beatable by smaller ROI and would require heavier table selection.
So the key thing I ask myself is - IS IT WORTH IT?
One part of my mind says YES because you get BR to play and knowledge needed to beat those stakes.
The other part of my mind says NO because I am not beginner anymore, I can work my ass off myself and get ready for it, I would prefer not to be involved anymore into sharing deals (did that for year and a half and payed my dues heavily thank you!), it would be super stressful with larger avg buy in brutal swings and lab rat grind like treatment.
Overall I am more for increasing win rate and beating 30s (first) then tackling at 60s and getting positive ROI. In the meanwhile plan to take couple of sessions from some coaches I appreciate a lot, talk about some more mathematical approaches post flop and get even more cash game approach into my thinking process. Believe that will help me great own regs even more post flop at mid stakes as I have noticed some big leaks post flop from them.
One thing that is true is , guys who crush pre RB and get SNE , they don't want to do videos on any site because they would be giving away edges for their games. They also don't want to coach for hourly because they know you can come and pay for 5-10 sessions ask all the questions you got and then just leave them with 1-2k $ and then go climb stakes and play in their games. Why should they sell their knowledge cheap when they can get 40k+ from you? ![]()
So this brings me to the part where I say - If I become SNE pre RB winner, would I act like all of them??? And the answer is I would probably go crazy with all that money, travel world even more, get tons of people involved into coaching and staking for low stakes and then when I feel its time to retire I would consider giving away the knowledge for one time price of something
One part of me feels that is wrong what they do, the other part says that it makes sense what they all do because at the end of the day they treat it like business and that's all there is to it.
Anyways just my 2 cents on it before I hit the bed

How does general public perceive poker players or professionals like yourself who make a living from it? Do they consider you as a gambler believing "one day you will loose it all" or they understand that it is possible to make a steady living from it and treat it as any other job?
I am glad its all tax free, will make your life very easy once you hit SNE this year

Appreciate it my friend !
In case you didn't know, costs of living can be compared for free at numbeo.com. E.g.:
Vancouver >>> Nis
Turku >>> Nis
Dublin >>>> Nis
Chiang Mai ~ Nis
The €1200 budget for semi-baller living and renting in Nis given there looks accurate (I can fit into €500 / month in a second-world country if I need but that's spartan), so we can assume that you'll need over €3K to live in a decently sized (but not capital) Finnish or Canadian city ![]()
Alas no automatic comparison with a Montenegrin city can be given as some of the prices are absent, e.g. for Podgorica, only a new car price is missing from the whole picture
But everything should be similar to Serbian cities there.
Regarding Canadian temporary stay visas, as far as I've read, you or the person inviting you will need to provide a proof of sufficient wealth during the period of stay, which likely should be bigger than the €50-100 / day of the Balkan countries. So I'm afraid you'll need to either become a student or have a really rich resident vouch for you.
And I don't think the requirements differ much in other first-world countries like Finland. Even your own Serbia requires a proof of sufficient funds for a visit, the only difference is that the life is cheaper and hence the requirements are way laxer.
Appreciate it a lot Tony
Nis is the way to go definitely !
Very excited to share long waited video a lot of people asked me for.

but here i am. giving you my opinion on your SNE-plans:first of all, i think from all the regs playing not higher than 30s, you are one of the more solid ones and i respect your sick grinding skills. you definitely have potential for SNE.
that being said, from 30s to 60/100s is the first pretty big jump in toughness. i crush 30s with 6,5% EV-ROI over 10k games and at 60s i maintain only 2,7% EV-ROI with a little bit of table selection. However i am pretty lazy theorywise nowadays and have a rather weak mindset (if i offend some1 on the table, dont take it serious ^^). On the evening 80% of the 100$-games are (for me) not playable, because there are 5-6 regs in them and in the morning there is very low traffic at 60s/100s.
So i think you have 3 options:
a) you go for SNE on 6max turbos (concentrating your session on the evening time, bec there is the most traffic) and give a fuck about tableselection and join all games, except high variance and make at best pretty small profit pre-rb playing like 6h/day 12-tabling.
b) you mix formats like jarppeK to make SNE (6max, 9max, 18men). play short morningsessions and/or afternoonsession (up to 100s usually pretty soft) and tableselect on the evening session. (cant tell you much about that option, since i dont play 9max/18men, maybe jarppeK will tell you more about traffic/toughness/$-expectations etc)
c) you stick to 6max, tableselect well and go for like 500k vpp with solid profit pre-rb. less busy grind and if you crush the games you probably will still make about 70-90k$ overall.
high five!
edit: just saw your post from 02:44 ^^ so i basically repeated what you said ♦ well personally i chose option c, but only with 300k vpp bec i am not much of a grinder. it definitely has the most freetime and convenience of all options. but i never saw myself as a real professional anyway. but with your work ethic it would be wasted potential if you dont try SNE (if you ask me)...

I looked over the list of Vancouver prices, and found that the ones quoted were a bit on the high side, but by only 10% or so, and others were more-or-less correct.
I was surprised that some things -- electricity and gasoline in particular -- were cheaper here.
I thought that the rents quoted were quite high -- they must be nice places!

Thank you for coming here and writing your opinion enjoy2playak!
Also would like to thank you for your kind words about my game :I have checked your blog yesterday, it is very impressive and I wish I knew German so that I can read and understand it all. You should really consider doing one in English, am sure you would get big following with your results
Onto the SNE stuff...I agree with everything you said pretty much.
I went into whole analysis because from time to time I get offered some SNE coaching and staking for hypers. I think turbos are better because you can have positive win rate pre rb. The problem is you can't do 1 game type , or you can but without table selecting like you said. If I am not table selecting then I might as well play hypers! So the idea is to make close to 100k but make it less stressful.
You are the living proof of calculations I lay out. You got 4-5% on 30s, 2-3% on 60s. That's what it take with 3k games a month 10 months a year to earn 54k $ pre rb. It probably took you couple of years to get to that point, am I wrong? I also know you are younger than me ( I am 30, in July 7th 31 , you are around 25 from what I have seen on your blog) so you are the one who should go for SNE definitely. If noting, you can pull the brake at 500k VPP mark and still make good money.Overall I think I need to work more on my game to get to the 4-5% ROI on 30s. I am also running very bad, my ITM in 1k games is 35% only I believe. There were tons of setups pre bubble but I also believe I did some wider 3 bet shoves when opponents are oppening very tight CO or BTN. In fact one of those spots was vs you A4s if you remember. Also interesting 3 bet pot with both of us involved where you flopped TPWK and took my stack. I didn't put those hands in your 3 bet range. I now know that you are different then the rest of the guys so I will readjust accordingly
![]()
Expecting some run good in near future for my ITM to go to 36-37%. Once that happens I am sure 3%+ ROI will happen easy. Regardless of it, I know my leak and I will fix it asap to decrease variance even more.Do you mind going into your table selection? Do you use Sharkystrator or similar software? Or do you do table selecting manually ? How many tables are you playing? Talk more about 60s when you get the chance. I played some super lol sample there and played HellRaizorK,AndyVan (something like that) and some SNE guy who mixes hypers with turbos. Have positive ROI on that lol sample but I am sure that limit is very tough because of more better regs.
Once again, appreciate you coming here and sharing your toughts on everything.
I enjoy playing you and other regs at 30s, it is decently challenging me to work even more on my game and move to 60s soon. Hopefully that shall happen all by the end of this year as I plan to continue mixing 15s and 30s with 3k minimum volume each following month with emphasis on 15 hours + a month working on the game to improve ROI on 30s+.I will send you request via community tool also, we can connect via Skype and talk there in some near future.
All the best and keep on crushing!
