99 raise in 4bet pot

This would make a lot more sense if it was only a 3 bet pot because of the board texture. If he has a solid read that you donk too much. Even then I just prefer a call...

Surely your 4 bet range is way more capped here, even more so over an UTG open?? Not sure how the raise gets you to fold/gets value out of AK/TT+. I know some good regs that would cold call the 4 bet with QQ+, I'm sure you do it too. Pretty hard representing that with this line though, especially when he just gives up.

It is just 5handed , so utg =hj and the ranges are much looser .

Even so, I'm sure your perceived 4 bet range has few bluffs in it? I wouldn't consider you 4 betting with worse than JQss 5 handed, the only hands I think you 4 bet that misses this flop is TT/KQ/AQ/AK. Even so, the CO raise just seems terrible, especially when he just completely gives up on further streets.

You have blockers, but likely I would just fold, since I doubt CO is 3-betting UTG too wide and you likely can´t 4-bet/call shove with KJ.
Postflop more standard play would likely be bet/shove, since overcards can easily freeze the action and if he is min-raising with medium pp-s he would likely raise/call his spot.

With only one overcard I think getting all-in with 99 is fine (especially if your 4-bet range is so wide). He protects with overcards and you can always shove your AK/AQ since he does not represent anything on dry board.

Your hand is obviously played well. But your question is regarding his play.

It's certainly not GTO or unexploitable to take the raise for free showdown line with 99, but let's look at it from an exploitative point of view. If he thinks your reaction to a raise on a dry board will be to trap all your good hands, and 3betshove (or fold) flop with your AK/AQ/KQ, then he can gain a decent amount of profit raise/calling flop and checking back/folding turn/rivers as opposed to the standard call flop.

I rarely actually advocate an exploitative approach like the one villain has adopted. I like to think of a post from a year ago from me as applicable in 3 years time, for example. In this situation it's best to just be aware of villain's play, and take the default play still (call your 99 on the flop, and balance this by flatting preflop with AA/KK and doing the same).
