Hey dudes,
Regarding population reads, what is everyone's experience of rich fish, I.e. a loose preflop player (say 30/5 or 60/8 or something) who has a big stack, 200BB plus? Obviously they are running hot and have hit some big hands so that must change their mindset. I tend to play the same irrespective of stack size when they have me covered but should we expect maybe more "table sheriff" type mentality from them? Not sure if this is a common enough situation to get any sort of population read but I'm often at a table with a deep fish who seems to be making moves fairly freely. Maybe consider some lighter calldowns?

I think we can definitely play more spec hands vs the rich fish, and we can probably get more value from premium hands too, though only on early streets.

Maybe they will call 3bets lightly and/or call down with marginal hands and draws. I do think most rich fish will release these hands before the pot gets too big.

And I'm not sure the fish is going to risk his big stack too easily with marginal hands, or bluff missed draws/air. In a sentence, I reckon a lot of fish might try to protect their winnings.

Anybody else have any thoughts on this? Rich fish are very +EV...

Awesome series!

Great videos, great community working together creating gameplans and solving problems.

Thinking about a private coaching before going to NL50 to be sure my NL25 play is correct, mostly for my reasoning part and understanding certain lines.

Moved me from a NL2 bankroll to NL25.
But playing NL10 when implementing new stuff.

Thx a lot so far from everyone, including the huds, excel sheets etc.

Big thx and respect for Weasel putting the effort in. _thumbsup:

I keep following the walkthrough series, last part I watched was the population reads stuff and I knew most of it but yet failed in adjusting accordingly. I also read some microstakes book by verneer, and got encouraged to do review sessions of my own play which I was restraining from doing all my poker 'career' time.

Apart from it consuming lots of time as I can't manage to just sit still and review for straight 2 hours or so, it takes more time with lots of breaks and stuff between. Apart from that I really enjoy it as I find many spots I understand I've played wrong and understand how I should've played.

There are some spots I'm not sure of, and I am a bit disappointed that evaluation hands forum has limited post count for users. I guess it makes sense though, to not overload the coaches etc..etc..

Few leaks I found and wrote them down so if it occurs in session I might remember that I've worked on this;
a. I sometimes bet river instead of checking back with hands that has showdown value. what happens is my fold equity is low so I don't get any better hands to fold, not much worse hands can call me, so I either bet to make worse hands fold or better hands call = Bl33ding $$.

example :

Spoiler

Poker Stars, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

SB: $3.69 (184.5 bb)
BB: $2.09 (104.5 bb)
UTG: $2 (100 bb)
MP: $4.87 (243.5 bb)
CO: $2.65 (132.5 bb)
Hero (BTN): $2.03 (101.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with K J
3 folds, Hero raises to $0.04, SB raises to $0.18, BB folds, Hero calls $0.14
Flop: ($0.38) Q J 2 (2 players)
SB bets $0.24, Hero calls $0.24
Turn: ($0.86) 3 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks
River: ($0.86) 3 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.30, SB calls $0.30

My quick unprofessional analysis:
There may have been a value bet on the turn, some draws and maybe TT-99 could call 1 street. but tbh on the river I don't think any worse call or any better fold.

Another thing is I play some very strong draws too passively, stuff like ATs on Q35s board, I just x/c in a 3b pot where I could probably x/r for value and ready to call a shove ?

I will watch the Math video because my math skills in poker suck a lil-bit. A bit stressful experience when I begin to calculate potodds n stuff in a live session.

I try to make a consistent pattern of note-taking.

Hello everyone!
First of all: thank you so much, Weasel, for this great series.
Now, about the last episode's homework, I've been working with something. It's not complete, but my point is showing the way I understood the video in order to discuss any controversial part.

*** Does anyone know what would be the best way to share an image, .ppt or .pdf in the forum? :f_confused:

Hi everyone!

I'm surprised noone is commenting on Weasel's last video, nor posting the homework... That video is great, very clear and pretty exhaustive, it covers a lot of situations. Is it that the video is for gold status so those silver members following the series couldn't watch it yet?

Anyway, I would apreciate help on how to share an image in the forum so I can show the diagram I've made. Is it necessary to upload it in a public site and then creat a link in the post? Isn't there any other way?

Thank you guys!

Hi,
The only way how to get image into the forum is uploading it somewhere and use its html address. You can use many public services, for example imageshack or flicker.

Imageshack now is a pay service.
I have never used flicker -- I am using imgur, and so far it is working well.

Create an account on whichever service you desire.
Upload the image -- imgur will provide a bbcode string that you can paste directly into a post.

If all you get is the image URL, then copy the URL, click the image icon in the toolbar above the forum post edit window, and past the URL into the resulting dialogue box.

Best of luck,
--VS

Thank you prduch and VorpalF2F for your help!

So, here it goes. As you can see, I'm only covering one of the four different scenarios discussed in the video. I didn't find a way to put everything in a single diagram, as Weasel suggested; I mean, I didn't find a way to do it without losing the interesting alternative lines this video suggests to improve our exploitative game. Anyway, I believe it might be of help considering strong and mid-strength value hands on dry flops. Please let me know if you don't agree with something.

Pretty much so. PS was unclear about the pre-conditions. At least I have been rather irritated that I wasnt aware from the start that some parts would be for gold. Now I pumped up my volume in pure anger so now I am a goldie. But I have spent so much time on poker so I have neglected some things I need to do so now I dont seem to have the time to view them :)

Great picture, LeonMar, thanks a lot! :)

This is my first post in the English community, so please don't flame, if I use the worst English you ever saw in life

At first I wanted to thank you a lot, w34z3l, 'cause your series is really great! I also liked the "Poker Evolution" series a lot, but the 6max walkthrough really helps me to play more solid and on an higher level.
I would say, that I'm one of the guys who watched videos of some midstakes player and understand a few advanced concepts, but still has some big leaks in his basic game. On the one hand side I bluffraise in a good spot vs. a capped range, but one the other side - for example - my cbet game is still on lower level than it should be.
In your video you said: "There are guys who cbet dry boards 100%, 'cause it's dry" - well... that's me

Your video about cbetting and planning motivates me to think more about cbetting and structuring my cbets and barrels.

Today i took a A-low-low Board (A62r) und tried to choose hands from my BU range to cbet and check behind.
Maybe you can have a look on it and give me a feedback, whether you like it or find any misstakes.

BU OR:
22+,A2s+,K2s+,Q6s+,J6s+,T6s+,95s+,85s+,74s+,64s+,53s+,43s,A2o+,K8o+,Q8o+,J8o+,T8o+,98o,87o (47,21%, 626 kombos)
(yes, it may be a bit too tight, but i will use it againt unknown and good players and steal much wider against nits and player who give me an autoprofit spot ;) )

Flop: Ah6c2d

Hands to bet:
Sets: AA, 66, 22 (#9)
2 Pairs: A6, A2 (#18)
Top Pairs: AK-A7 (#84) - i will check behind some weaker TP's
Middle Pairs: K6s, Q6s, J6s, T6s, 96s, 86s, 76s, 65s, 64s (#27) - vulnerable, so bet flop, right?
Gutshots: 54s, 53s, 43s (#12)
Broadways: KQ, KJ, KT, QJ, QT, JT (#96) - not sure if correct, but we can 2nd barrel some gutshots on the turn (to let villain fold pocket pairs and 6x)!?
Backdoor K high flushdraws: K9s-K2s (#23) - each 3 kombos, no spades-kombos, 'cause they don't have a backdoor flushdraw

Check back: A5, A4, A3 and all other hands - I have a few backdoor flushdraws like Q9s which I can bluffbarrel on the turn when I pick up a flushdraw and villain checks a 2nd time.

Flopzilla says, with this strategie we will bet the flop 55,7% of the time.

Is that okay?
How would you chance my cbetting strategie on that flop?
Especially: Is it okay to have only 36 kombis of made hands (A5-A3) to check behind? After check-check flop and villain bets the turn wie can only call this 36 kombis and a few hands which pick up some equity/a draw on the turn...

Thanks a lot and keep producing such awesome content :f_love:

I'm a nitring and found the deffending vs 3betters video really interesting.
How can adapt those ranges vs 3bets for Fullring? I mean, can i use the same logic narrowing ranges?
I was planning to use this kind of ranges when the 3bet% of the villain is 8%+
Is that ok?

Sorry for my english!

Hey everyone,

first of all nice job again with your latest video.

Here are my homeworks:

1 hand: CC from the Blilnd in a HU-Situation:

Microgaming - €0.10 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 102.9 BB (VPIP: 76.92, PFR: 15.38, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 13)
SB: 85.7 BB (VPIP: 38.46, PFR: 7.69, 3Bet Preflop: 16.67, Hands: 13)
Hero (BB): 111.6 BB
UTG: 100 BB (VPIP: 18.58, PFR: 12.39, 3Bet Preflop: 2.22, Hands: 114)
MP: 156.8 BB (VPIP: 19.87, PFR: 12.50, 3Bet Preflop: 2.87, Hands: 4,698)
CO: 139.7 BB (VPIP: 26.13, PFR: 18.72, 3Bet Preflop: 8.93, Hands: 1,132)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 2♠ A♠

fold, fold, fold, BTN raises to 2 BB, fold, Hero calls 1 BB

Flop: (4.5 BB, 2 players) A♥ 5♠ K♠
Hero checks, BTN bets 2 BB, Hero raises to 6 BB, BTN calls 4 BB

Turn: (16.5 BB, 2 players) 8♣
Hero bets 9 BB, BTN calls 9 BB

River: (34.5 BB, 2 players) 9♣
Hero checks, BTN bets 8.5 BB, Hero calls 8.5 BB

With only 13 hands Villain is unknown. But with the TP+Nutflushdraw it is an easy Check-Raise for me. Because of the tone of Outs I also barrel the Turn. On the River I think Villain will only call hands which will beat us, so I check to get some Value from bluffs.

2 hand: CC from the Blinds in a multiway situation

Microgaming - €0.10 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

CO: 111.4 BB (VPIP: 18.97, PFR: 17.24, 3Bet Preflop: 11.43, Hands: 118)
BTN: 102.8 BB (VPIP: 50.00, PFR: 50.00, 3Bet Preflop: -, Hands: 3)
Hero (SB): 203.3 BB
BB: 494.5 BB (VPIP: 35.34, PFR: 6.90, 3Bet Preflop: 1.96, Hands: 117)
UTG: 57.3 BB (VPIP: 58.06, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 63)

Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 9♦ 9♥

UTG raises to 2 BB, CO calls 2 BB, fold, Hero calls 1.5 BB, BB calls 1 BB

Flop: (8 BB, 4 players) T♣ 9♣ J♦
Hero bets 7 BB, fold, fold, CO raises to 21 BB, Hero raises to 201.3 BB and is all-in, CO calls 88.4 BB and is all-in

Turn: (226.8 BB, 2 players) 8♣

River: (226.8 BB, 2 players) A♦

This is a hand I played last week and I was thinking if it was a ok to going broke on this very drawy board in a mulitway pot. I decided to go broke, because I thought - even if Villain has a straight I have enough outs to get a FullHouse and considering to the dead money in the pot I thought this move should be +EV. But if Villain has an Set tens or jacks I will be f**ked up :f_cool:

3 hand: RFI from the SB

Microgaming - €0.10 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

UTG: 141.7 BB (VPIP: 25.00, PFR: 17.69, 3Bet Preflop: 10.11, Hands: 266)
CO: 280.2 BB (VPIP: 26.81, PFR: 19.24, 3Bet Preflop: 6.95, Hands: 1,813)
BTN: 114.6 BB (VPIP: 21.02, PFR: 17.92, 3Bet Preflop: 8.72, Hands: 463)
Hero (SB): 137.1 BB
BB: 100 BB (VPIP: 27.16, PFR: 12.35, 3Bet Preflop: 14.71, Hands: 83)

Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 8♠ 7♠

fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, BB raises to 13 BB, Hero raises to 33 BB, BB calls 20 BB

Flop: (66 BB, 2 players) 9♠ J♥ K♦
Hero checks, BB checks

Turn: (66 BB, 2 players) 2♥
Hero checks, BB checks

River: (66 BB, 2 players) 6♠
Hero bets 33 BB, fold,

This a hand is one of the category failed 4bet-bluff.
Villian is unknown and on the flop I only pick up an gutshot wich is a bad one, because ever Q will have a better straight, so I decided to check-fold flop and turn. Because Villain has also checked two times in position and I have no showdown Value I decided to take the pot with bluff on the river and luckily it works _biggrin:

4 hand: BB vs SB

Microgaming - €0.10 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 3 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 143.7 BB (VPIP: 33.33, PFR: 29.11, 3Bet Preflop: 13.85, Hands: 377)
SB: 137.1 BB (VPIP: 20.20, PFR: 16.50, 3Bet Preflop: 2.99, Hands: 402)
Hero (BB): 100 BB

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, Hero posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has Q♦ K♠

fold, SB raises to 3 BB, Hero calls 2 BB

Flop: (6 BB, 2 players) T♠ 2♥ 5♦
SB checks, Hero bets 4 BB, SB calls 4 BB

Turn: (14 BB, 2 players) 9♦
SB checks, Hero bets 8 BB, SB calls 8 BB

River: (30 BB, 2 players) 9♣
SB checks, Hero checks

With two overcards I have 6 Outs, so I decided to bet the Flop. On the Turn I nearly always have to think if it is good idea to bluff-barrel the Turn. What are you guys thinking?
In this spot I think it was not good idea to bluff-barrel the Turn, because Villain will not be afraid of card lower than the Ten.

Hi to all!

Long time no see, but now will post my homework for the 4th video (C-Betting and Planning). :)

#1
IPoker, $0.10/$0.20 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

SB: $27.51 (137.6 bb)
BB: $14.20 (71 bb)
Hero (UTG): $27.94 (139.7 bb)
MP: $32.83 (164.1 bb)
CO: $27.67 (138.4 bb)
BTN: $24.46 (122.3 bb)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with J J
Hero raises to $0.60, 2 folds, BTN calls $0.60, SB folds, BB calls $0.40

Flop: ($1.90) 3 9 T (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $1.20, 2 folds

Results:

Spoiler

$1.90 pot ($0.09 rake)
Final Board: 3 9 T
BB mucked and lost (-$0.60 net)
Hero mucked J J and won $1.81 ($1.21 net)
BTN mucked and lost (-$0.60 net)

I made a standard open raise there and got two callers. The BTN is a regular and a BB is a fish. I hit an overpair, but my hand was still a bit vulnerable, especially against two opponents. Primarily, I don't want to see A or K on the turn. So, i decided to cbet and, fortunatelly, they both folded. I would cbet any overpair, TP and maybe 2nd pair in this situation. With garbage hands and underpairs I would most likelly check/fold. As played, If one of them had called, I would barrel any undercard because 8 would give me an OESD, 7 would give me a gutshot + it's still likely that I have the best hand because I block most of J8 hands. Also, on lower cards my hand is probably the best and I might get calls from Tx and 9x. I would probably also barrel Q because it would give me and OESD, but the Q is somehow tricky because it hits some of oponnent's flop calling range (KQ mostly and 3 combos of QJ). A and K are not that good cards for barreling in this situation because they can kill my value against Tx and 9x, but I think I can still barrel them for value and fold to a raise. On the river, depending on the turn and river cards, I would often cbet, but sometimes bluffcatch against missed straightdraws.

CO: $20.50 (102.5 bb)
BTN: $19.70 (98.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is MP with 9 T
UTG folds, Hero raises to $0.60, 3 folds, BB calls $0.40

Flop: ($1.30) K 8 3 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero checks

Turn: ($1.30) 7 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.80, BB calls $0.80

River: ($2.90) 6 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $1.60, BB folds

Results:

Spoiler

$2.90 pot ($0.14 rake)
Final Board: K 8 3 7 6
BB mucked and lost (-$1.40 net)
Hero mucked 9 T and won $2.76 ($1.36 net)

Standard open raise from the MP. I got call from a very tight player on the BB. (17/11). I didn't hit, except some backdoors. That and the fact that the board is two – suited and that the K hits the BB's preflop flatting range badly, made me to decide not to cbet. On the turn I hit the OESD and the board becomes double two-suited. Since the player checks, I think he doesn't have a K because he would sometimes try to protect it, at least on the turn. I also think that he would also be scared of that board and would fold all his A-high hands and some of his midle pairs (99-QQ). All that and the fact that I picked up an equity made me to decided to try to take the pot down, so I made a delayed cbet. I hit the nuts on the river, so nothing else to do than to balue bet. I think I made a mistake there by betting a bit bigger than I should. Now would bet half a pot or maybe lower than that and hope for calls from mentioned 99-QQ. If I wouldn't pick an equity on the turn, I would check back and if the opponent checks the river, I would try to bluff there and make him fold his 5's, 4's, 2's, A-high and Q-high. As played, if I wouldn't hit a straight on the river and the opponent checks, I think I would still bet, especially if the board becomes 3-suited, because I think I would often take down the pot, except maybe if opponent has TP or better, which is not that likelly when he was so passive untill the river.

Since I made quite of typing, believe those two hands would be enough. ;) See you soon with the next homework!

Hello everybody!

i imported W34z3l s HUD in HM2 and i wanted to look how this stuff with pop-ups for each stat works (i had hm1 before and as far as i know there were no such thing there) but i dont know even where to look. i can see the HUD itself in hud settings menu, but how to look at pop-ups for each stat to change them or smth? in popup designer i can only create new one.

also i dont like that i see popup if only i point mouse at stat, and if i click the default hm2 popup appears instead of w34zels popups. Can it be change so that i click on stat instead of just pointing and w34zels popups would appear?

the questions might seem stuped (they do to me at least) but i really cannot understand in this HM2 stuff anything =/ thats why i always hate new soft

thank you

|UPD LOL i actually can choose popups in designer and change them. i looked there for an hour and i swear there was no such option there before i wrote this post!!! :f_eek:

Hi Everyone!!!

Maybe I started a bit late this course, but I would like to post my homework from the 1st lesson. So if I made anything wrong you can help me to correct it.
Also, I would like to say that my English are not the best!

1st Homework

Input Open raising ranges and Cold calling ranges

Spoiler

My Bankroll Plan is:

I will start with 15BI at NL10, as you can see I will reload if I lose 5BI at NL10
and this because I play on ipoker (pokerstats not tracked, I want to reach gold status to watch the whole series). The problem on ipoker is that, all the NL4 tables are for beginners and i cant join!
I hope to be lucky and do not need to reload!

Also, the bigger the level, the more BI I will need to move there and I will spend more BI for my Shots!

I calculated R-o-R for all NL levels and also for different Bankrolls.
The win-rate I used is 1.5bb/100.

If I reach the NL50 I will also include a cash-out Strategy:

Spoiler

This strategy is not mine I read it in a forum before a long time.

I would like to say thanks to Alleen86 for all the Spreadsheets and all the great work in this thread!
Very helpful!

2nd Homework

Input 3-bet ranges

Spoiler

Iso-raising

When I iso-raise the first think I check is my position, the better the position the looser we can Iso-raise.
Second I check Limper's FtFlopCB stat in my HUD,for players that play fit or fold after the flop we should Iso much wider.
Also I check,If there are any very aggressive players left to act, cause if there is someone that can 3-bet light we have to use a much tighter range of hands for Iso.
As for the stack of my villain, I don't care much except he is shallow(maybe<30BB) or he has a very low FtFlopCb,cause almost every player that limps too much is a very weak player. Those Players don't know that they have to raise when they come in 1st. I don't expect him to know SSStrategy or the difference between Short and Deep play.If a villain has 70% of Ftcb, He will fold most of the times with 100BB or 50BB. Maybe I am wrong but until know this works fine for me. Correct me Pls if I am making a big mistake.

ex. This guy was limping about 55% and folding 70% on the Flop.

Postflop I will Play according to the part 4 lines if the villain has <50% or he is an unknown.
The bigger the FtFlopCb stat is the more frequently I will Cb, If he is in the 3rd category I will Cb every Flop!

3rd Homework

I am using the same HUD setup for a long time, but I used the default Popups which was very incomplete and they luck of very important stats.
The only bad thing is that I use HM1 and it took me a hole day to design my new popups.
I also use Color Coding for the most of my stats.
I use three colors:
Red(Stop)
Orange(Careful)
Green(Go)
I use a 4th color only for Vpip and Pfr cause I think they need 4 categories.
Yellow(Careful but less-I don't know an exact word for this)

My HUD is:

Name/Hands/WTSD
Vpip/Pfr/Af/3b/Ft3b

Hi!

Will post my 5th homework (Defending vs 3betters)

#1 Here I called the 3bet, despite it was a bit larger than usual. The reason is that this player is a reg and 3bets 9,7% overall, and in addition he had 3beted twice SB vs MP in 11 ocasions he had a chance to. So, he is definitelly capable of bluffing in that spot and I don't want to just fold JJ, but think will isolate myself against better if I 4bet. As played postflop, I don't think that have to raise this board on the flop. On the turn am scared just of AKQ showing on the river, so that might be a reason to raise. It's quite obvious he has an overpair there most often, maybe 98 or 7x in some cases, but not that likelly. Anyway, decided to call again. 98 got there on the river, but I'm probably ahead in 99% of the time, so I wait as long as time bank allowed me, and then called.

Hero (MP): $21.99 (110 bb)
CO: $23.95 (119.7 bb)
BTN: $23.58 (117.9 bb)

Preflop: Hero is MP with J J
UTG folds, Hero raises to $0.60, 2 folds, SB raises to $2.20, BB folds, Hero calls $1.60

Flop: ($4.60) 6 7 J (2 players)
SB bets $2.35, Hero calls $2.35

Turn: ($9.30) 7 (2 players)
SB bets $4.74, Hero calls $4.74

River: ($18.78) T (2 players)
SB bets $14.27, Hero calls $12.70

Results:

Spoiler

$44.18 pot ($2.20 rake)
Final Board: 6 7 J 7 T
SB showed K K and lost (-$21.99 net)
Hero mucked J J and won $41.98 ($19.99 net)

#2 The BTN is a reg and 3bets 9% BTN vs CO. He folds 60% to 4bets when IP, so easy 4bet bluff with A9s.

Hi guys!

I've just added the ranges against 3bets into the Excel file I had posted before. Both, xlsm (for Office 2007+) and xls (for Office 2003-) files can be downloaded here. Hope it will help someone!
