I haven't been playing much, finally starting to settle down here.
I'm staying somewhere south of central station, 20 min away from Holland Casino so I could probably play some live games during the weekends.
I also bought a decent table and chair from IKEA yesterday so I should be ready to grind a lot soon. My main problem now is that my new laptop lags quite a bit when I try to open the popups. Trying to see what I can do to optimize performance.
with all respect, but if u bought a "new laptop" which lags from couple tables+ softs, then you were totally ripped off with this purchase and u have very low understanding about computers. i suggest to ask for help here, because any new mid range laptop will handle even 8 zoom tables with huds popups and all the shit around it 
Just in case you decide to go for a new laptop, go for ASUS, 100%.
They have the most durable and well manufactured computers out there.
If you ask any technician friend they will confirm that asus is the brand for laptops that they see less in their repair shops.
Me and my wife had 2 ASUS laptops for over 6 years and they are still working!
If you need any technical help to choose a good one to handle HM and multitabling (or for anything else), just don't hesitate to ask me
EDIT: Sorry noticed too late the "new" laptop, thought it was an old one. Odd that it can't handle simple stuff like that, the current generation of laptops should handle tables and HM2 pretty well. If you want to kick the performance up a VERY CONSIDERABLE amount with HM2, get an SSD (warning, they are expensive), get your database and HM2 installed there and you will thank me later.

My previous laptop was asus and it worked pretty decent. This time round I wanted an ASUS laptop again, but the guy at the store told me that the specs on this lenovo laptop were slightly better so I just got it.
Too lazy to research the price, probably not worth my time anyway trying to spend a few hours for a $50 discount
My computer has 1 TB HD and 25 GB SSD. I wanted full SSD but it seems that the options were pretty limited in the computer store and I think only the gaming laptops which were like close to 2X the price had full SSD.
I agree that it probably makes a big difference, currently reinstalling postgres and hm2 to the 25gb ssd drive. I no longer buy hands so i should have more than enough space in the drive for now.

check your memory (RAM) usage, when i played 14+ tables my 4gb of ram was too short and laptop started to freeze so i had to put in some more, mby thats the case for you, because most midrange laptops come with 4GBs.
From the laptop picture I spotted a Z50 model, correct? If so, it would help if you posted your specs of the computer. Right click on My Computer and click properties. Here you can see some basic information like CPU and RAM (post cpu and ram info here). If your CPU is slow then it will bottleneck your system and there is not much you can do about it. A proper SSD would improve a mediocre system by a great margin though.
*As vuciitis stated, check your RAM usage during playing (ctrl+alt+delete) and task manager. 4 GB with windows 8 running multiple tables and HEM2 + internet browser open, antivirus program in the background could create a lag for your system.
HEM2 is known for performance issues, even with fast computers. So if everything else is running good except HEM2, you should read some HEM2 related threads, like this: HEM2: why aren't you listening to us? or type "hem 2 is lagging" to google. Your second choice would be to buy PTR4

It's slightly better than the basic Z50 model I think, I believe I had the ram upgrade.
The performance of the computer isn't completely smooth even without HM but it isn't all that laggy either.
I just migrated my HM over to the SSD and it seems to load 2-3 times faster so that's great. Now I'm gonna test it out.

Looks fine to me and your laptop is fast enough to run multiple programs. If you encounter major slowdowns or your laptop is not running smoothly, try installing Windows 7 and see if problems persist. I've been having awful problems with lag as well, maybe something to do with the recent HEM update? Hopefully they will do a better one so it works how it should!

I just had a HUGE winning day today and I'm up by some amount so far for this trip. I lost quite a lot before that though. I don't like blogging about losses (esp heavy ones) because it already hurts so much thinking about it so I'll just talk less about results for balance since I don't want to be the type of guy who tells others when he wins and not when he loses. Not gonna be posting regular graphs, maybe at the end of the trip or month.
My com disconnects sometimes due to the slightly unstable internet. It happens mostly when my friend comes back and streams something so I'm trying to adjust my playing hours. A little tilting to have lost a few hundred dollars because of that

-Finished reading Expert HUNL HE Part 2 (finally!!! it's been way too long)
-Started experimenting with cooking recipes from the 4 Hour Chef
-Posted a lot on hand evaluation forums (focusing more on NL100+ now, since some of the spots posted by Gingerkid are genuinely difficult and force me to analyze them, unlike the NL10/50 forums which are mostly basic spots)
surprisingly I feel ok not playing games at all. In the coming weeks I'll set some goals for myself.
-Finish at least 50 hours of analysis for the 2 months here
-Add 1-2 theory videos for Preflop perfection
-Produce 2 live videos either for PS or my own site
-Write one strategy article for my site (was halfdone with my article on bet sizing but got lazy)
-Cook at least 10 times
Now I'm watching Arrested Development and Clone wars while I play. I think sitcoms are generally the best because you can just listen to the joke without watching the screen so much. Whereas for plot heavy shows I tend to miss out on important dialogues. And if I'm watching foreign language shows I would have to read the subtitles which means that I can't be playing so many tables
