I noticed that when I am in a hand I think in 'hand vs range' not 'range vs range'. Do you think it's a big flaw? If yes, why? :f_confused:

Theoretically, If we maximize EV of all particular hands, then we maximize the EV of our range, no? Of course this presupposes that we are trying to play exploitatively. If we are trying to play GTO, then we have to think about our own range for obvious reasons.

Mbml, you're a gamer right? I visited to your website and I noticed the gaming section. How do you balance your gaming and poker? I find it pretty hard to motivate myself grinding because of gaming. I think that's because games are easier since you are not under the presure the same way that you are when you play poker. In poker there is always money on the line and it can be stressful sometimes. Really often when I find myself choosing between games and poker I end up choosing games because it's easier and not that stressful (it doesn't require that much mental strenght). I just feel that I would improve and move up in stakes much faster if I gave up gaming, but I really like gaming and I wouldn't necessarily want to stop gaming completely. I think my preferred balance between poker and gaming would be something like 70-75% for poker and 25-30% for gaming. Currently it is pretty much the opposite.

What are your thoughts about this? How are you able to keep the balance that you really want?

Hey mbml, Ive got question about stacking off with AK against unknown reg when we minraised on buton.
I know you would 4b/call, but still I have doubts about it.
I mean when we 4b he dont need to have many bluffs in his range to call his shove (or shove over his min5b). He might also call with dominated hands.

But when I do his range in equilab, even if I give him quite wide continuation range (made of 5bets and calls) of JJ+, AQ+, some pockets, some Axs, some hands like KQ, 89s, AJ, which all makes 5%, then we still have like 53% with AKo against his whole range.
And we dont even know if unknown is going to bluff us with 5bets or call 4b that wide.

There is less fish and the regs are much stronger. People are able to play huge volumes due to the ZOOM format, so the edges are very small. I think you get the point. Poker is poker, zoom or regular...but the opponents are different.

that's probably true at SSNL and uNL but at 500+ I think the player pool at the moment is very similar to 2/4 and 3/6

in poker we are trying to maximize the EV of our hand at all times.
The only difference is that playing the GTO strategy allows you to maximize your value against your opponent's GTO strategy. That is, we are assuming that if we deviate too far from what is GTO, our opponent can exploit us and thus reduce our EV.

I have the same problem, I spent 1k hours on dota from Aug 2013 till now. That's slightly more than poker, even though I got SNE last year (in 1.2k hours).

The best way to overcome this problem is to set a goal (like getting SNE). Push yourself to complete it. I wouldn't say that gaming is a complete waste of time but it drains a lot of time for sure.

I'm apathetic with regards to politics.

1. My one-man opinion cannot change anything unless I try to be a politician
2. By playing poker I pretty much destroyed any political ambitions that I could have
3. The best people can thrive in most environments regardless of the political climate

Thus I have decided not to care about such issues. While many of my fellow countrymen continue to go to online forums to flame the ruling government and talk about how they would vote out the ruling party in the 2016 elections, I just couldn't give a shit about that. I just want to focus my efforts on being the best I can be.

Focus on things within your control, not things out of your control.

hey Ryeotw, thanks for the interest. I've actually finished recording about 4 hours of footage for Blind battles. I'll add more bonus content, then I should be ready to sell it.

I think that you are misunderstanding something.

2->8->20->100
Pot odds offered to you = 80/200 = 40%
53 >>> 40%

This is a clear call. We are definitely committed here.

Now you are actually deciding whether you can 4bet AK for value or not. Measure the equity of AK vs villain's 3betting range, not his 5bet jamming range.

If you do not 4bet AK, you cannot 4bet bluff a wide range of hands against a decent opponent. Any decent opponent would look at your fold to 5bet stat and realize that your 4b range is way too bluff heavy. They would then proceed to 3b/5b everything against u.

I know the usual way of thinking about value betting is to think of all the worse hands that can call you. (If equity edge >50%, you can value bet). The other way to do it is to just look at your equity edge against your opponent's range and decide on a bet size. I think the second method is more appropriate here because he will rarely be calling 4bets, and will usually be in a jam or fold mode.

hey mbml

playing poker from global perspective is pointless. You don't produce anything or help anybody. You just take someone else money for you. If you play poker for a living your morality is questionable (if anyone cares).

what is your philosophy about this ? or you just don't care ?

Cheers !

The majority of the population doesn't contribute to humanity in any significant way. Yea, so what if you are an office worker working for an MNC?

My take on this is that poker gives you the freedom and capital to pursue bigger things. So you'll be in a much better position to add value to other people's lives in some other fashion, if you so choose to do so

i have no idea. this is not within my field of knowledge. My first deposit was with Moneybookers (Skrill) and I did a bank transfer to my MB account first. Depositing with CCs is not allowed if you're based in singapore
