Waiting for a text from someone so I will do one more fun one.

http://weaktight.com/6521669

Pre- This is not part of my normal game plan, I realize if I'm 3betting this then I'm 3betting way too much but few things were happening here, CO is obv a fish and btn is obv a reg I don't respect. His 4bet is very tiny over a decent sample, so my 3bet realizes a lot of its equity postflop, his fold to cbet in 3bet pot is also slightly tight, and also I thought this sizing meant he was weak (we find out I was wrong).

Flop- the board is super dry, if we had KT on KT4 for example, we have slightly more incentive to bet but this hand just does a really nice job of protecting our x range and we can bomb later streets and perhaps get called wider or we can pick up some bluffs.

Turn- few things were going on in my head, when he checks the flop I expect him to be somewhat showdown happy, I wasn't sure how thinly he would vbet or if he would stab if I checked again, because I did consider going for the x/r to try and let him bluff one more time but then I decided the EV of betting twice is probably just better.

The next question was what sizing to pick, once again I had few different thoughts running through my head, I considered clicking pot and jamming the river, I considered overbetting, I considered betting something like $20 to try and induce. After weighing all of the options, I decided that $20 basically misses too much value as he is probably more on the stationy side and not aggro, and I also thought betting pot might look too much like i slowplayed like KK which my hand is almost that, and I'm just trying to make up value now. Where as this size might look the bluffiest and will get 2 calls pretty often from JJ-QQ type hands. my plan for the river, depending on the river was to bet very close to pot on most rivers, think pot would have been like $120, so somewhere 100-110 is about right imo.

Once he raises, there is not too much to discuss here, he has 1 combo of KK/99 and probably rarely has 44/66. He could be getting retarded with AK/KQ/ or even aces lol so it's a no brainer jam, I mean flatting just looks insanely strong anyway so we need to shovel all of the money in, not like he will bluff river if we flat.

Edit: before I leave, I actually want to point out that the ev of betting and x/r turn is probably pretty close. I don't know exactly which I prefer without knowing the villains tendencies very well.

I got to get ready now, hopefully you guys will enjoy some of those. Feel free to ask questions and what not. Before I used to be pretty skeptical about posting strat in my blog and wanted to keep it very anti-strat like but I don't think I'm giving away too much here but at same time kind of am :P, not sure how to word it. Maybe I will do something where I post a hand or two weekly that I played and review what I think I did right or wrong. Let me know what you think.

Just bought like roughly $200 worth of cooking supplies, pot, pan, croak pot, colander, wooden spoon, spices, eggs, chicken, and some other stuff. Think this can only be a good thing long term, basically this will not only have me eating healthy but most likely save me money, I think I avg about $10 per meal every day/3 times per day, used my player points when I ate at the casino and some snacks here and there, I would say I was blowing prob 500-600$ a month on eating out. My reasoning was it saved me time to just eat out plus I was lazy.

I think with this plan, I'm not sure but I will prob spend 200-300$ a month on groceries and just cook my own healty food and be able to bulk up a bit too. Pretty excited, I will post any cool recipies/findings take pics of my food for the first bit and post until I get bored obv haha.

Hey guys,

I'm actually going through another rough phase in life. It's not really my style to write on a public forum about what's going on but it's basically some things going wrong with poker while my personal life has taken a downswing as well. I realize holding things in is not healthy and I have close friends that I can talk to but I just rather not post on a poker forum about it.

Although I did notice a growth in my mental "muscles" if you will call it that, I'm about 4 or 5 chapters in to Mental Game of Poker by Tendler and it's just incredible how quickly it has helped me "solve" or combat what's going on. I think in many ways poker has also made me tougher with dealing with things that occur in real life.

It's what you do not what you say you will do that's important.

If you can take anything out of my blog post if nothing else is the sentence above. I have on numerous occasions said I will do this I will do that and then not end up doing it. You only cheat yourself. I have been saying I will make a blog post for the past few days and I'm only finally getting to it. I mean I have a lot of things going on in life right now but I definitely could have done it sooner. I have attempted to do review sessions with few guys I talk to and we still haven't been able to set it up, I mean obviously some of it had to do with some schedule conflicts but I definitely have a flexible enough schedule to where I could have DONE something in order to make it happen. You know same thing with producing another vid for PS.

I have a lot of "mini projects" going on in my life right now, let me make a list of what I'm currently focusing on and/or plan to focus on.

-grinding
-cooking
-working out
-reading mental game of poker
-reading mathematics of poker (haven't started yet)
-reading applications of poker
-work with CREV/flopzilla in order to improve my game more (purchased CREV/have not worked with it yet)
-produce more vids/be more active
-purchase possible coaching?
-watch videos produced by others
-educate myself/find ways to invest/make income without poker
-attempt to find a new girl/go on dates. not too focused on this as I want to better myself even more but if it happens it happens.

I can probably group a lot of these all under "getting better at poker" but I think the sub-categories are kind of nice to see I have a lot of shit that needs to be worked on.

My plan on attempting to produce better results:

So those are the things I would like to work on, I have read some of the Schnitzelfisch's (sorry if misspelled) posts/articles w/e you call them on being more productive, I have watched a lot of motivational videos, I have read motivational stuff and I'm constantly attempting to find ways to be more successful. What I have found out is that the motivational level is not always high, right now my motivation is high, I'm excited posting about this, I want to get shit done etc etc. That may not be the case tomorrow so what I have done before when I was really into working out is write down my goals on a piece of paper and stick it above my bed, it's basically what Primoz (Schnitzelfisch) suggests in his productivity guide but back then I didn't even know who he was obviously.

This whole thing actually started with me going to the gym earlier today, I went in and I just felt blah, I'm much much smaller than I have been in the past, much weaker, basically nobody gives a f**k about what I did in the past. So the workout just didn't feel right so I came home and started searching through my work outs to find something new, then I started looking at some corrective exercises by smittydiesel on youtube and then there was a vid by Eliott Hulse and I started watching some of his vids because I have watched them in the past. So I ran across this video

Give it a watch if you are interested in working out but basically what I got out of it is that I don't need anything new and I was just bsing my way through a work out when in truth just simple basics work the best. I think this also really applies to small stakes poker players, they will watch Uri Peleg own someone on the river by betting $20 otr into a pot of like $200 and then snap off the guys raise to be right but don't really understand why he did it and then feel the attempt to need to try and make that play on every street and every board without understanding why. I know it's the truth because I used to do it a lot when I was first trying to move up from busto stakes, hell I'm probably a bit guilty of this after watching a sauce vid lol but nah I do try and understand things now.

No idea how I went off on that tangent while trying to talk about basics but I should wrap this up and go cook myself a steak.

So my goal/plan/solution is to write down some goals for every day and work on them each day, educate myself, put in some hours and work on those things. Obviously some days I won't get to some things but at least it will create a habit and make me work because I have some goals written down.

I didn't get to do a summary of Jan/Feb results but hopefully that will be the next post along with an update on how working on the things I listed is going.

I apologize for being all over the place, writing a nice neatly written blog post is not really my forte but I think there are some valuable pieces here and there and hopefully you will enjoy it.

One more quick post so you guys can see how my steak turned out. I attempted the reverse sear in this one for the first time. Basically oven first on 275F until steak reaches 120F then let it rest for about 10 mins and then sear in the cast iron skillet. Turned out really good.

Nice setup! =) I was also thinking of looking to buy a Herman Miller. Does it really makes that much of a difference?

well tough question, short answer is yes. If you plan on doing this for a while I def suggest spewing some money on a nice chair. However what I don't like about my embody is that it doesn't have headrest but I have got used to it and I can sit in it for very long time without being tired.

Hey guys _thumbsup:

It's been a while and I wasn't sure if I wanted to start a new blog completely or just pick up from where I left off. I'm also not sure why I was in the mood to write because I have picked this up so many times, wrote a bit for a few weeks and then got bored with it. I have to say I give a lot more respect to people that are capable of being consistent in what they do and produce top quality work. Which brings me to one of my latest epiphanies.

In order to be a successful poker player, you need more than just solid strat.

Since my last post, a lot of things have happened. I have been working a lot on my game. However, even though it's fairly obvious that there are many ways to have an edge in poker, a lot of people tend to neglect a lot of the areas and I would say I did that for a while. And it's very hard to be consistent at everything. I have a lot more respect for the guys that are able to have a routine/system and put in the hours every day than I have in the past even if their WR is not so great just because it's not very easy to do.

Here are some of the things I have been working on lately:

-pre flop ranges. one of the hardest things in poker but you can definitely use math and make improvements to your current ranges, it's kind of an art tbh.

-hud improvements. I would say most guys don't understand how to fully take advantage of their hud or what stats to look for. Once I started spending more time with this in combination with preflop/postflop work, I started finding way more spots to win the pot/exploit my opponents. I would also suggest investing in a hud made by one of those hud gurus. I can't really post links here but if you want pm me and I can recommend some stuff.

-be a part of a study group(s). Has been really important for my progress as a poker player. It makes learning less boring and you have people to exchange ideas with. Ideally you have guys on similar levels and similar skill level so you guys can all benefit from each other.

-modeling/sims etc It's not 2009 anymore, you can't get away by playing by feel any more if you want to move up in stakes. You have to work on your strategies off the table. I'm currently working with a group of 3 other guys on this. It's very frustrating and takes up a lot of time but I'm hoping the end result will pay off for it all.

nutrition I can't stress how important it's to be healthy/fit considering how much time we spend sitting on our a$$. Learning how to make few simple meals, getting back in the gym routine has definitely been beneficial for me, obv at times you will be giving up some monetary EV in order to go to the gym but I think long term + Life EV will def out weigh that. I still struggle to consistently go in all the time, partly because I'm so depressed about having to climb the mountain all over again.

consistency/mental game- Yea it makes sense to wrap it all up with this one. I personally am not a big fan of reading books or reading for a very long period of time. Anyway I just decided to invest in some audio books and try to at least go through ~1 audio book every 1-2 months. I recently listened to Breathing By Andrew Weil, it's fairly short (2hours), first half he talks about how he helped his patients and second half he teaches you breathing exercises. I highly recommend checking it out if that's something that's interesting to you. And another audio book I purchased is mental game of poker. I have started reading it in the past but never got to finish it, hopefully with an audio book it will be much easier, but tbh I go at a pretty slow pace since I have so many things to work on.

I hope some of you guys that decided to come check this out and read this whole thing, enjoyed this post and got something out of it. Please let me know what you thought or if you have any questions. Bye bye for now.

Why this, is it against rules of Pokerstrategy to recommend some in your blog?

I don't know, I don't advertise anything non PS on here. I definitely had a lot more stuff to add to my list of things but ran out of gas a bit. I would say getting the most out of your hud is going to be a pretty big step in terms of moving up, coming up with dynamic ranges in game as well as ways to exploit people.

I think one thing I left out is, failing a lot and not giving up. It's standard, everyone goes through it and some many times. So often I just get so emo and want to give up on this game but I keep fighting in hopes my hard work will pay off. Like today I spent 4 hours working on my pre ranges. Don't really feel sleepy but having a hard time keeping my eyes open atm.

Hey guys, going to be trying to post a bit more about poker again. In the past I have tried it and failed it for different reasons. Think some of it has to do with fear, and just being too self conscious. I think I was just so afraid of failing because I had such high expectations for myself.

This topic is actually turning into something that I think a lot about in terms of how to approach these things. Looking back to 2012, I have failed what I would have like to achieved, but now I understand better why that is. A lot of material that I have studied so far, really talks a lot about having some kind of a system, some kind of a routine that you follow. It's especially important when your level of motivation is low or you just feel emo and depressed. Something, my roommate has pointed out to me is that I'm "unstoppable" when my confidence is high and I bring my C game when I'm not confident. This is true both for poker and when me and him have fucked around prop betting shooting bbball, playing golf etc. It's not a particularly new topic or anything crazy but if you think about it, a lot of what gives you confidence is preparation and results.

Preparation involves working on spots off the tables, doing warm up before starting session and so on. Results, this one is more tricky because we think of results as winning or losing when it's not so simple imo. I think the tricky part is realizing that you are making a +EV call and you are just expected to lose some of the time. Once you accept that, it becomes a lot easier to play and not stress about it. However, you can't take this to an extreme and use it as an excuse to just mindlessly click call and after losing 10 pots in a row use an excuse of variance or lol im supposed to lose sometimes.

This kind of translates nicely into what I consider a big leak of many small stakes players trying to get better. Taking things to an extreme, for example, you get a coaching session and your coach says something like oh "good job man you are playing well but maybe you could try to be a little more aggro with probing the turn, since people's range are often going to be exploitable", so you think to yourself "oh man i got the green light, I'm going to probe the shit out of that turn!". What ends up happening is now you completely forget to analyze the situation, is the turn good for my range, does it improve his range, etc etc and instead just auto bet turn, and you just take it to an extreme. It's not very hard to spot someone who is just leading the turn every single time after the flop x's through. This is not only applicable to this but it's like almost everything. What you want is subtle changes to your aggression, you are gaining a little bit more ev but its not so easy for the villain to spot since you are not going wild monkey on him. This really applies to poker in general. It's also something that happens with watching vids from producers, the producer picks out like 5 x/r hands otr out of their like 100k hand sample, and then after you see it, you just go nuts otr, and every combo looks like a good combo to x/r with. My biggest advice is to really try not to force it especially at small stakes, people just kind of hand you money without you having to get too fancy.

This turned out to be quite a long post, but hopefully the guys that do read it, will find it at least somewhat helpful even though I got a little too wordy and I'm not the greatest at expressing myself. Hopefully going forward I can get more consistent and improve from failing in the past since I do think I understand the reasons why better now. Here is my last session:

I probably didn't play super great, but ran a little bad. Played a bit of hu trying to get some fun players to join and just kind of got coolered a lot, 2 pair<straight, stuff like that.

Since everyone likes graphs, I present to you my last ~180k hands mostly 1/2 very little 2/4 very little .50/1 , that's with a lot of live play as well. Lately I'm most likely cutting out live plays and focusing more on online. Looking at the graph, I don't really know how to describe how I feel. It's a bit of combination what I was describing earlier with having really high expectations for myself, knowing what I capable of but at the same time also being happy with my progress and improvements. With that being said, I think the goal moving forward is to bump up the volume and increase quality of play. Hopefully I will get better at playing spots as well.

That session kind of sucked, decided to jump on to a 2/4 table with 3 fun players. Turns out I was the fun player at the table. So far this month, I'm down a bunch at MTTs and barely up in cash. Hopefully it turns around.

The sick part about this session is I probably could have been up even more if I didn't make a few mistakes early on. Called a 1/2 pot cbet on the river vs leatherass because lolmath but I had a feeling he wasn't bluffing.

Hey there S7!

I've been following your blog from a while ago and I'm really glad you decided to "revive" it! I've read your post, I like your thoughts and I agree on most of them.

Especially the "being active" part is something I also really believe in. I try to go for a 30+min jog every day (or at least 4 times/week), also have football session with friends every tuesday night + I try to do some workouts outside on bars (gonna hit the gym for a month or 2 now that it will get cold). And overall I think this activities are the single most important factor that keep my motivation and especially my ENERGY LEVELS so high all the time! Healthy body, healthy mind, I guess =)

One question, since you mentioned how we are sitting on our a$$ all the time. Have you considered trying "standing office" type of setup? I haven't, but have been flirting with the idea for a while now. I have a friend who is trying it out, and is actually pretty satisfied with it. Firstly it was a bit of a struggle, kinda awkward feeling standing all the time; he still has a bit of problems when grinding 7+ hours, but is in general really satisfied. Just an idea.

Anyway, me myself play NL50 ZOOM on a regular basis, will now start to play NL100, so your blog and your achievements are a nice motivation for me. So keep it up, hopefully I get to your level soon and maybe we meet in one of your skype/study groups :]

Regards,

MJQ.
