If I hold like K7s on SB and everyone folds to me. I raise 2.5BB and the BB 3bets for 7.5BB. Now according yuor table yuo should 4b with lots of hands including K7s how much? like 20BB is this not too much with just K7. Is this becasue oponent often tries to resteal so yuo wont give up on yuor steal yet?

Ok lets asume I 4b 20BB

1) if oponent 5b allin I should fold right? ir if oponent 5B like 40BB I should fold too?
2) oponent calls and the flop is
a) AKJ rainbow. what now?
b) As6s5s. and what now?

asume oponent is unknown

Balltas, I think you can 4bet to 16-18BB and yes, fold to any 5bet.

If BB calls he won't have a lot of aces left in his range, I think. Low suited aces he would fold to your 4bet, middle aces he would fold also and high (suited) aces he would jam?

The Kings he could be holding are, I think, KQs, and maybe sometimes KK to trap if he knows you have a wide 4betrange. He could definitely have JJ.

Other hands he could have: 1010, QQ

Since this is a 4betpot and people on microstakes are honest in these pots, I would bet the AKJ flop; you'll look really strong and he has really little hands left he could raise of even call you with. If he fights back you give up, if he calls you could just have the best hand or improve and otherwise you'll pick up a big pot (which will happen more, I think).

A big leak of mine was that I would never cbet flushflops; I didn't want to scare them away if I had it, and I didn't want to scare myself away if I didn't have it :f_eek:

In the suited flopcase it's important if your oppenent is loose or not. Will he call with just an ace or stupid low draw? Then you bet for value. Will he fold quick? Then you check to maybe get some at the turn or river. I think...:)

Sorry, edit; oppenent is unknown; then I'd just want to get the most out of it and bet the suited flop.

And by the way, W34z3l, thanks for making things more complicated :P I'd always just 3bet the crap out of buttons who opened 3x because i'd just assume there was no positional awareness..... And now there's your great advice

I have lost 5 buyins using these ranges and preflop play. This play put me in the sitution postflop that I often can dodge. When I play I often play agresivelly. I win lots of small pots but then I lose the big ones. And this is like an all stack..

here it is... my TOP hands.

IPoker, $0.01/$0.02 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 5 Players

Hero (SB): $2.01 (100.5 bb)
BB: $0.75 (37.5 bb)
MP: $1.98 (99 bb)
CO: $6.87 (343.5 bb)
BTN: $2 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A K
MP folds, CO raises to $0.04, BTN folds, Hero raises to $0.12, BB folds, CO calls $0.08

Flop: ($0.26) Q J 7 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $0.26, Hero calls $0.26

I called here because the villain always bets the flop so I float.

Turn: ($0.78) J (2 players)
Hero checks, CO checks

I asume he does not have very strong hand here yes?

River: ($0.78) A (2 players)
Hero bets $0.32, CO raises to $1.74, Hero calls $1.31 and is all-in

OK he raised big but I have top pair top kicker.. is this is not enaugh to call?

Results:

Spoiler

$4.04 pot ($0.26 rake)
Final Board: Q J 7 J A
Hero mucked A K and lost (-$2.01 net)
CO showed 7 J and won $3.78 ($1.77 net)

AK could defeat many Ax hands he could have. and I think he would do that with AQ-Qt pockets that didnt hit set etc...
yay.. so in this spot I have to fold.. but he often bets bets bets and always the pot.. often raises after someone cheks before at least one street.

Where am i wrong show me and explain me.. and the next question to your explanaition would be why? I want to know exactly.

Preflop: Hero is CO with 5 K
2 folds, Hero raises to $0.05, BTN folds, SB raises to $0.20, BB folds, Hero calls $0.14

I would never play this but your starttnig hands sayd so to play before the flop like this.

Flop: ($0.42) 9 Q 4 (2 players)
SB bets $0.20, Hero raises to $0.60, SB raises to $1.02, Hero raises to $1.44, SB raises to $1.86, Hero calls $0.36 and is all-in

I raised him because he sometimes continues bet even he misses the flop and I have some fold equity by raising and if I get called still I have a diamond to come out. but I got raised by 1.02 then I thought I could call its close to my odds and impluied odds bu then again there is not much left in my stack so I shoved still bu shoveing I have some fold equity.

Turn: ($4.02) 7 (2 players, 1 is all-in)

I made a contibet.
why? how did he knew I was bluffing? he reraised me with second pair and I called it. why didnt he give up?

These all are my bigest hands and all losses only from 1 session.

sometimes I feel that when I play with top pair top kicker, someone plays with a overpair for the pot. but when I am ahead somehow they manage to escape. Or I run into situations when I bluff but someone calls with 4th pair. but yuo cant just know if they gonna call. You make desisions by their play before. And if yuo bluff 2 times in the same plaer wouldnt they believe if yuo try to bluff 3rd time.. ir should be so obvious that this time you must have a hand...

ok one more... versus the same idiot. this time I waited for the hand cause I learned that this idiot would never fold and I finally know how to exploit him.

and after this he just left the table. I will probably wont meet him again, so I will have to observe other players all over again, this cost me very large ammount of money to realize how he plays. that he calls huge river raises, bluffs a lot and could play with all stack at these situations.

please I need a winning player advice... how do you observe them? how do you know when to bluff.. if you bluff and get cought will yuo try again? why or why not?
honestly.. I dont really know how to play K5s postflop..

if yuo get a flush that is very rarelly they could see it if yuo have. they will be cautios.
if yuo get 5 paired it is weak hand. if you get K paired yuo have low kicker. you cant make streight with it. When tight people plays vs yuo you often are behind.. when lose players plays yuo dont know where to stand cause idiots could do unpredictable things and yuo still dont know.. of course those unpredictable players try to be tricky and check the turn with 2 pair like J7.

I really tried my best analizing games try to outplay them, tried my best all the time I was paying attention havent been distracted and in the end with lts of efort I have a headache and dissapoitment. Those lines that w34z3l's talked about in his video has failed for me...

But I think something went wrong with the "SBvs3b call/4bet ranges". AKo and AKs is in both of them. That can't be right, or do I overlook something?

Homework for Episode 7: Population Reads:

I think that one of the common reads at micro-stakes is that when villian 3bets SB/BB vs CO/BTN and get called. If he doesn't cbet the flop, he will usually fold to the bet in enough cases that our bluff bet will always be profitable. If he check/calls, he usually doesn't have the nuts (just like in regular pots), so he will most likely check/fold the turn. If he check/raise, it means that he has the nuts (just like in regular pots).

Allright, 3 more to watch! :f_love:

We should call some of these strong hands some percentage of the time to protect our range, and sometimes 4bet them. If we never call then our calling range can become too capped and too easy to read.

Is there a part in this series, that covers the options of the cold-caller postflop?
It's my biggest leak and I couldn't fix it up to now.

@ w34z3l: Great series and thanks for your dedication to the micros!

Constructing the rest of my "game plan" against unknown villain and not sure if this is a call or a fold. Board is drawy, I am IP and villain bets. Should I then call once with "vulnerable weak made hands (EG As2c on Kh7h2s)" or fold? Maybe call a vulnerable weak made hand with backdoor (Ah2c on Kh7h2s) and fold the other? What do you think? =>

I think if you have Ah2c on Ah7h2s you should move to a different poker site.:f_biggrin:

Hi w34z3l,

I have recently returned to poker and am finding your micro-stakes walkthrough to be the perfect tool for learning solid poker fundamentals. In previous forays into the online poker world I have been overwhelmed by the amount there is to learn but I am very hopeful that your series will give some focus to my study and help me compartmentalize the work load so that my brain doesn't burn out trying to understand it all at the same time. Thank you very much for all your time and effort. Your feedback in the hand evaluation forums is also very valuable.

Question:
Why have you chosen an open of 2.5bb SBvsBB?
I have been trying to sum up the pros and cons of smaller sizings vs larger sizings SBvsBB -
Smaller:
2.5 / (2.5+1) = 71% required success rate to 'print money.' I guess this allows us to open a lot wider but 36% doesn't seem particularly wide. It may also encourage more calls and so we play more pots OOP having given the BB a good price to call. Does it also encourage BB to 3b more as they can take the betting initiative for less (I appreciate that this could also play into our hands somewhat if we are happy 4betting lighter but I am not yet that far in my development) leaving us playing more 3b pots then we would like OOP.

Larger (4x for example):
4 / (4+1) = 80% required success rate to 'print money.' Evidently higher required success rate but we are opening a reasonable range anyway and not getting out of line. Possibly discourages some lighter calls and 3bets leaving us to play less tricky spots OOP. When 3b our value 4b are maintaining a low SPR and we may find it easier to play for stacks though of course the flip side is that our 4b bluffs are more expensive.

I appreciate that the above are pretty simplistic considerations but I can't think of anything that clearly makes a case for one or the other. Please explain if there is a definitive reason it is correct to open smaller or if there is still some disagreement in how BvB should be played.

Thanks again for all your time,
MD

Ps - I'll be continuing through the series and will post some homework over the hols.

Hi MasochisticDesire,
If I have any reads or history on BB I modify both my range and bet sizing to suit.

vs unknowns, I'm still sticking with 3BB and branch out from there.

Are you playing zoom or regular tables?

Totally agree about the series, too

Cheers,
VS

Hi Vorpal,

I play Zoom; mainly because it is the only way I can get in semi-credible volume whilst working f/t.
I also vary my open-sizing where I think I can exploit (though admittedly I am playing without a HUD atm so my reads are not assisted by stats) but I am keen to know if there is considered to be an optimal open sizing that I am not aware of.

Thanks,
MD
