The turnaround !!

Finally !! The turnaround is a fact.

No I did not have a session in wich I won a lot of money. I think I'm actually still down in $$$ for the week. But something happened in my head after my last session and I feel absolutely amazing. I'll give the contrast of last week vs today

Last week:
- I am beating these games, I need to win some quick money and move up.
- After a couple losses I was thinking about actually just beating NL10 marginally
- Why aren't I beating these games harder, I should be better in theory than other regs
- Maybe I'm missing something but I don't know what ... I also need other goals but wich ones ?
- I don't have a X/R here. It's just not right in theory
- I should check/call vs this weaker player to induce pure bluffs
- I don't see any opportunity to 3bet even more
- I pbb shouldn't barrel they never fold after they call the flop
- I don't know what to learn first I'll just try everything at once while reading GTO. Maybe I should hire a coach .. that seems absurd at NL10 zoom though
- If I fold my overpair I'm exploitable. JJ on 998 , well I still have a backdoor straightdraw, this is still an awesome hand
- F*** you I'll call you bluffing son of a BIAAASSHHH.. GODDAMNIT THEY HAVE THE NUTS EVERYTIME .. (3minutes later make the same call again )

Today:

- First question: Is this a weaker player or a reg ? After that I can check some stats.
- I don't have a X/R in theory, but this weaker player won't fold his toppair and pbb even call his flushdraw so X/R is huge +ev
- Normally I should size 1/2-2/3 pot here .. but since he's a weaker player he'll fit fold so I'll just make it 75-80%
- JJ on 998 in a 3b pot .. flop: villain bets 3/4p. Thanks for letting me know my friend. I'll lay them away have fun with my $$$ and keep playing!
- I'm not really sure if I should X/C or B/F ... well better B/F smallish so I lose less money and maybe even get some thin value.
- I pbb beat NL10, but let's make some volume. I'll move up at $800, there's no need to rush.
- I have process goals: learn the basics, exploit weaker players by 3betting and valuebetting, focus on cbetting and wich barrelouts you have, B/F not X/C, keep focus, don't tilt, ... so many goals wich I can succesfully evluate after each session

Short story:
I learned some really really basic stuff. Didn't forget about the theory (it's still wonderfull to know a little GTO atm, but I'm focussing less on it). The most important things I learned is to variate game, ranges, sizing, ... against different types of players. I also have another system to check if a player is weak or not (I look way more at how many tables they are playing . Below 3 is a good chance of being a weaker player)

I also learned I don't need to see 'elite' training videos. I just need to repeat repeat repeat the basics and learn to do them unconscious. Yes this is a referal to 'The mental game of poker' wich helped me w/ goalsetting and especially my huge tilt problem. I'm not saying it's fixed but I am saying I realised I have this problem and now I'm doing something about it :) (obv I still go on tilt but at least I know and I can get back to a better state or realise I want to make a call bc of tilt).

What's next ?

It would be typically me to just keep learning new concepts. But I think I just need to sharpen everything I learned. I need to train my conscious competence to unconscious competence. I also have some conscious incompetence issues (like tilt and some marked hands) wich are enough work to focus on right now !

This also takes a lot of pressure of me btw. In my head I was like 'Danggg I'm learning some GTO stuff, talking to some good poker pro's and I can't even beat NL10 decently ..' but now I know what's wrong and how I can find out (not all) many things that are wrong I feel really good :)

This week I'll still use my vacation to grind like crazy and next week I'll just go to grinding 10-15k hands a week and take at least 1 day off.

Oh yeah and I will also review my own video of yesterday (where I didn't play my a-game) and hear what was the difference between today and yesterday so I can further work on my a-b-c game profiles !

tl;dr
I learned some stuff and I'm happy

And after the happy post we lose $45 in one session ...

Some bad beat
QQ<KK pfai BTN vs BB (-$10)
KK < QQ pfai BTN vs SB -$10
QQ<AA PFAI BTN vs MP -$9.15 (not sure about this hand, I squeezed, SB called and MP overjammed so it may have even been a fold but couldn't find the hard to do it .. at that moment I almost had no sample + he was not playing a lot of tables wich leds me to believe its also AK and maybe even JJ or random spew sometimes .. so no reason to overanalyse this I guess)

So variance heavy session here. Also folded overpairs several times because of very sucky boards and also got rivered vfor a 2 outer for a $10 pot.

I had mostly really bad luck. My AIEV is still pretty decent. But I also made 1 really really big mistake .. I don't even get how I misplayed that hand, it was like total fishstyle .. if I see someone do this he gets a spewtag :P

I pbb also misplayed this one even though I think it's pretty hard .. I had him as a fish. If he overplays Kx flushes and maybe other flushes this is a great spot. If it's always a fh it's a bad call. I actually asumed he would never have 88 or TT as my population read is that they raise these hands OTF.

I liked how I played this hand .. only I said to myself OTR: this is a pretty ugly card, I'll just bet fold .. and then I bet called .. But still I'm not convinced my call was that bad.

Since I have a serious downswing wich is pbb the combo of running really bad + playing pretty bad I decided to just play 2 zoom tables really focussed.

Today's goal

* I want to grind at least 4 hours and focus my entire session on 3betting a bit wider (more bluffing) and also playing better postflop.

* I'll make it pretty easy and I have some basic guidelines wich I will use about cbetting. It's from a basic video from w34z3l (a pokerstrategy micro coach). I will not follow these instructions blind, but when I'm in doubt I will mark the hand and post it (or review it) and follow his reasoning behind it. I think it will prevent me from making huge mistakes. I still had these notes from last year.

* Be honoust with myself about tilting. Last days I tilted really hard while I said to myself everything was under control.

* Maybe do a sweat session with one of the guys that I added last days

------------
Cbet

fold to cbet over 60% exploitatively high

fold to cbet under 40% don't cbet too wide on villain

!-BUT-!

Think ahead ! Low fold to flop cbet and high fold to T cbet is barrel opportunities !

Concepts

* Vulnarability: presence of draws, overcards. More vulnerable = more cbet

* Backdoor potential

* Board texture: drawy or dry

Categorizing hands

a. Dry texture

* Cbet strongest hands (check some)

* Check mid strenghth non-vulnerable hands

* Cbet vulnerable weak made hands (A2 on K25)

* Cbet blufs w/ decent backdoor potential (89s on 744s w/ backdoor fd/sd)

* X garbage

* Delayed cbet w/ slowplays, non-vulnerable hands w/ 2 street value, marginal showdown value hands (especially when 2x checked to, we're pretty likely to have the best hand and we can fold a lot of equity+protection against getting bluffed) and trash w/ potential to improve (eg. FD) to 2 barrel bluff

b. Drawy texture

* cbet strongest hands and vulnerable mid-strength

* Cbet strongest draws (semi-bluff)

* Check made hands w/ draws (non vulnerable)

* Check weaker draws ??

* Cbet bluff w/ decent backdoor potentential

* Check garbage and some very weak backdoors

* Delayed cbet w/ midstrength non-vulnerable hands, some garbage that improves

Further considerations

OOP

On dry: cbet, X/C and X/F (cbet strong and vulnerable weak made hands an bluffs w/ decent backdoor potential, X/C non vulnerable midstrength + showdown with no backdoors like AKo, X/F garbage)

On drawy: cbet, X/R and X/F (X/C non-vulnerable mid-strength and some draws)

Barreling the turn

* Value range (consider exploitative strat when villain is a floater who like to bluff)

* Bluffs on select turn cards --> high cards, cards where we pick up equity (Keep in mind that the cards could also hit our opponents range, eg. TJ2r and a K comes. There is a good chance our opponents has hit. On a 572r a K is a good bluff card)

* On drawwy textures sometimes it's better to cbet blank runouts (eg. TJ7m villain wil raise his strongest hands. So when a blank comes, we can often cbet turn bc it's safe and we're repping a strong range)

Down 4BI, played an absolute C-game and I realized it. I tried to change it, saw it as mental practice. Didn't work out to well even though I also didn't lose much after. So I guess it kinda worked ..

Pretty sure I'm not even beating NL10 atm. But I could whine or just keep learning. So I'll just do that.

One hand was ugly. I'm not really sure if it's a big mistake on NL10. But I'm pretty sure it is:

fold, fold, fold, fold, SB raises to 3 BB, Hero calls 2 BB

SB checks, Hero bets 20 BB, SB raises to 70 BB, Hero raises to 146.8 BB and is all-in, SB calls 76.8 BB

River: (323.6 BB, 2 players) Q♠

My reasoning was that the 70BB could be a bluff even though that's rare on 10NL especially in big pots. But because the board looks scary I imagine him doing the same w/ 2 pair ? Not sure. He pbb doesn't even have a lot of 2 pair in his range tbh. I wish I saw that ingame, I think my jam is bad .. but the spot in itself is also pretty ugly I guess ...

Obv set over set, boom 160bb down the drain

Here another hand: Just after this hand I realised I was playing my c-game

Turn: (13 BB, 2 players) A♦
SB bets 9 BB, Hero calls 9 BB

River: (31 BB, 2 players) 4♣
SB bets 85 BB and is all-in, Hero calls 85 BB

The steal is fine on NL10, when he donks that big I think it's mostly a set or top 2 maybe an overpair. Since I have a double gutter w/ a fd (he never has a FD imo) I'm calling.

Turn he best relatively smaller wich makes me assume his hand is not as strong as I first thought. I'm not sure what he has, but I'm thinking mostly pocket pairs now wich would also suit his SB flatting range I guess.

When the 4 comes, and this is where my c-game leak comes in to play, I can only think like a fish .. OMG I have the straight, finally after all the badrun I hit something , suddenly he jamms almost 3x pot .. wich makes this spot the most easy snapfold ever .. Following my previous reasoning he should almost always have 88 here, not a set and not 2 pair. But yeah ... I don't know why but I snapcalled and I was actually really upset to see he had 89s now it's funny obv because I would normally never fall for this. I made way harder folds than this ...

So yeah that sucks. I cannot afford to make these kind of mistakes ever. At least I can learn something frm my c-game so I added it to my profile.

He 3bets, I call.. pretty std. I hits pretty good .. he checks so I'm thinking: ok he has weak showdown. The error I make here OTF is only tthinking about pockets pairs and maybe some weak kings and some AXs. I think I can let him fold his PP so I bet. He calls. Second error: I still don't exclude his Pocket pairs.

So I make his range way wider than necessary and I forget to ad Jx to his range .. wich is a pretty horrible mistake considering the river.

Turn I hit SD value I don't see any reason to bet. His PP (wich shouldn't be in the range) are almost drawing dead. His weak kings are not numourous in my head so no reason to bet.

River: J
He best 2/3 pot .. I'm thinking: Ok pocket pairs into a bluff, or maybe Axs I don't ever see him having value so easy call ... when I see AJ I'm like ... oooh yeah I forgot about those hands ...

Considering the mistake I made i think I should have barreled turn pbb my T is not good often OTT and it's an awesome barelling card vs a capped range. He would have folded his J and in stead of losing 35-40bb I would have won 16BB ..

Last hand wich I think is an error but I'm not sure about (and this is a bit yolo but I never know what to do, I was tilt and I wanted to try something different.

Week review:

It went horrible, I had a major downswing pbb due to bad play combinated w/ runbad. I think I became just weakpassive postflop and I started losing and couldn't figure out why.

I don't really feel like writing a lot here but I'll just show my graph and give some stats

Stats

As PFR

So I actually cbet flop like 50% (over 1k hands) and fold 67% (317 hands) when they stab wich is pbb way way waaaaay to high. It's like I don't bet a lot but also don't have a real calling range when I check. I also folded 58% (92 hands) to turn probe (wich is basically a OOP turn stab , so happens most often in CO and BB wich explains why those position suddenly had a bad winrate + fast dropping Non-showdown).

With the lowish flop comes a lowish T cbet .. ok it's not like low low or something but it should come w/ a good calling range OTR. Guess what ? I have 75% fold to river probe wich is basically a river stab after I cbet flop, check turn so that should be waaaaaay to high as wel ... those are only 44 hand though

As caller

Looks fine I guess ?

Postflop agression

So 4,3% (850 hands) I raise a flop and 6-7% I raise turn (530) or river (250) .. I think that's to low ? I think I'm missing out on lots of value and foldequity here.
I also seem to respect flop raises way to much (only 77 hands). I don't mind the fold to T (29) and R raises (11), if anything they should pbb be higher

Some handvalue stats

Gutshots: F cbet 60% wich is pbb to low since there are also made hands in that range
OESD: F cbet 61% wich is again pbb to low, T cbet 77% wich is pbb to high (only 22 hands tho). Only X/F the flop twice and called 13 times - 2bet OESD only 15% OTF wich is pbb to low.
FD's: 61% cbet again, pbb to low in many cases. X/F flop 13% so many X/calls here almost 35% of the time I'd X/C a FD wich is pbb to passive especially on micro's. Also 43% cbet turn wich is not a lot ... it pbb should be higher again. This means I only 2 barreled 1/4 of my FD's.
My X/R flop= 15% and my 2bet OTF is 15% .. So I almost never raise flushdraws ..

I think it's to low ..

Wel I wouldn't write much ? LOL well ... really curious to hear what you guys think. Imo the biggest problem was aggro-ness

Sorry for the bad english...

Hi, the first thing you should really work on is your flop fold to cbet. No matter if you are the preflop raiser or the caller, the flop fold to cbet should be around 40%. It obviously affect dramaticaly your red line. Your probably folding very often the best hand against a bet. You are also not cbeting enough. A lot of people at micro fold against cbet flop more than 50%. It is one of your problem, but also the problem of most people there.

According to that, if the fold to cbet of your opponent is higher than 50, it means that you can make an automatic profit on the long run just by betting all the time. I do not recommend you to bet anytime, but just simply think about it and you will find many spot where you can cbet on the flop (or turn) and it very EV+.

Now looking at turn and river, according to the fact that you only keep the good hand on flop, you should now continu with your hand a bigger % of the time. Even on turn and river, you fold your hand way too easily. The W$SD truly show what I just said. 61% of winning is WAYYYYYY TOOOO HIGHHH. In fact, this stat should be around 51%. You don't need to win much more often then loosing. You only need to value more with good hand, and try to prevent loss when your hand is less good.

I can also see that your rasing range flop is way too low. It is a comon mistake a micro-stake. You should start check/raising or raising your draw or simply hand with good equity. This would get the raise flop higher and also let you value more your set and stuff like that when you it. You could get call much more easily. In fact, the flop raise (including c/r and x/r) should be around 15%.

Hope it helps a bit, I know its just % but it can help findind some adjusment in your game

Samtheo, your english is just fine !

I got the same feedback on 2+2:
- Cbet more
- fold less (well someone said fold more wich is a huge huge leak obv lol)
- Dont check and fold as much to turn/river stabs

I also read further in applications of NLHE and I realised what I was trying to do (playing balanced) and how difficult tghat is. Resulting in me bacoming a passive weak player because of bad range construction.

For now I'll play more aggro again !

I already asked you for that, it's just to help you, and you said no. But I think that posting your entire stats from pop-up should be be a very good thing. Sometime, a simple stat can look very revelant but it's not, cause you can realize that it is because of something else.

True true. I think I had a pretty good reason for that. NL10 was going great at that moment and I only ran bad (or maybe played bad) at NL25. So I didn't want to draw conclusions yet from stats of my first 10k hands (especially since my style of play changed a lot over the last couple of K hands)

The difference now was that I had I style of play and kept playing like that for 20k hands --> it should say something (and it clearly did). So that's why I did want to do it last time but not first time. I never offended you though, I appreciate everyone who's willing to help.

Now I'm changing my game again. My non-showdown over the last hands is way better and even though I didn't run great I'm still BE-ish very very slightly up .. so you helped me already !

The goal now is to post some hands and learn from there.

Week recap

So the week went a little strange I guess .. It was pretty swingy, most of the swings were just above the $0 but in the end I swung down and ended the week on -$25

Week goals:
- Work on the red line
- Stop the downer
- Learn to play more aggro postflop
- Volume: 10k (only got to 8.5k but it was a busy week so I forgive myself)

So I guess I succeeded for my week goals even though I lost .. I did play way more aggressively and my red line didn't go as far down as other weeks. I actually think I'm overdoing some spots now. I especially believe I have a big BB leak.

Anyway some stats over 8.5k hands:

VPIP:23.5
PFR: 19
3bet: 5.7

Fold to pre 3b after raise: 62%
4b + after raising: 12%

X/F flop; 68% way to high again I guess
X/R flop: 6% but today I got almost 12% so I'm working on this
Raise flop cbet: 8.5% (today 17%)

Cbet F: 67%
Cbet T: 51%
Cbet R: 35% (pretty low ?)

WTSD: 24.58%
WSD: 47.7%
WWSF: 48.9%

Something weird I'm noticing a long long time now:
Winnings per position:
Little difference between CO BTN EP and MP ... so I have a BTN and CO leak I guess. Atm it's 20bb/100 over most positions.
SB improved a lot: -19bb/100 obv no real sample though
BB still leaks but I'm working on it -66bb/100

Again: no real sample over 8,5k hands, but these things never seem to change so maybe I should think about some leaks. Maybe I'm opening BTN to wide or only win small pots or something

Anyways here is the graph

Conclusion

A lot of improvement, maybe spewed a bit to much though. Could definetly have won, made a couple of huge mistakes, could easily have saved 30-40$ I guess.

But ...

I did not win this week. I can't expect to change everything in 1 busy week. But if I don't prove to myself that I'm beating NL10 pretty good by the end of march I WILL quit poker. I have more important things to do than rakeback grind NL10 zoom tbh so I better start beating it very quick

That's why ...

If there are still people willing to rail, discuss strategy, help, ... please do. Obv it would be nice if both of us could learn something. But that won't mean i won't accept help from players that play way higher.

Tomorrow the week recap (it went pretty good actually .. understatement).

Week Recap

It was a good week. At the beginning I played pretty good and ran extremely well. My bluffs often caught value vs villains bluff catchers. After I gave up a pot I kept hitting gutshots and toppairs and stuff (wich also made me get a lot of value since I was repping thin everytime). In the mid of the week I became complacent and a bit overconfident I guess.

I didn't study a lot, started monkey clicking 4 tables (while still making profit), didn't do my warm up or cooldown and did stuff on the side while grinding (eg. searching for a good grind playlist and stuff). Eventually I dropped 6-8bi of wich at least 3-4bi could've been avoided .. I woke up and started my comback *insert epic Rocky music here*

Yesterday I made a good comeback in the second half of the grind and ended rostucko.

Weekly graph:

Results:
Played 10.5k hands
Profit: $127 (AIEV $ 90)
BB/100: 12 (8,4)

Also played a little of NL25 (one or 2 tabling along with 1 NL10 table) and I played meh .. not bad not good. At least I didn't drop a lot. The graph obv doesn't say anything

So yeah pretty good week resultswise .. my mindset was bad, luckily I 'woke up' yesterday and started concentrating and studying again ! Feeling pretty confident now but no hurries. I'll play untill my BR is around 750-800 and shot NL25 again :)

Since the flop hit us really well and the turn is really ugly for our betting range I think this isn't a problem ? Or do we have a problem OTF ?

Hi! I watched ur video it seems like u play too nitty imo. 3bet more! Especcially against fish u want to isolate big it's a pretty big mistake to just flat KJs from bb against a fish minraise from utg if he is a loose fish.

I would recommend you to study stuff like 3betting, 4betting, c-betting and preflop ranges much more than calculating some combinations for certain postflop spots. By having the basics right ur winrate and redline will improve a ton.

Very true ! Thanks for the reply !

Since the video I have been 3betting more. It went from 5 -> 9% (almost double)
I also play less passive now ! My redline is improving a whole bunch (now I'm actually often overdoing it a bit hehe). But like you said, still a lot of work to do on the basics !!

Big news

Big news today. Someone offered me a staking a while ago and today we agreed on the deal. This means I will be playing 50NL on Bwin. Focussing on solid play, not volume. First I'll play regular tables, after that I'll play fast tables again. In both cases I'll just play max 2 tables, not more.

It feels pretty weird to getting an offer like this, but it's a great opportunity to learn faster and play for 'real' money (as in money that could matter IRL). I can play a month and see if I like it .. if I don't like it I can choose to quit and I won't have to pay losses. If I'd choose to continue I obviously will need to grind the losses back. So that's a rly nice deal in my favor. Profit split is 50/50 wich seems really reasonable.

It feels really nice that someone trusts me this much tbh. I don't want to dissappoint this person so extremely motivated !!

I do lift actually, I just ended my cut .. Lost 8kg's. I actually almost quit for 2 years (not training seriously) I started to gain fat ..
Long story short:
82kg's on my heaviest, slowely dropped till 73.5kg now after a cut I'm looking pretty aestethic (and also a bit Do-you-even-lift) and I weigh around 65-66kg

I got some coaching from Menno Henselmans (www.bayesianbodybuilding.com) it's really awesome and not like most people train :)

edit: started my cut around 1500kcal btw , my maintenance was 2000kcal .. freakin low, now I'm still losing weight at 2400kcal .. UMirrinBrah ?
