So I had my first zoom session back since my absence and it went fine. I played nl10 and a little nl16 and will now post a few hands.

1.
SB: $11.40 (114 bb)
Hero (BB): $12.21 (122.1 bb)
UTG: $11.19 (111.9 bb)
MP: $10 (100 bb)
CO: $5.07 (50.7 bb)
BTN: $10.36 (103.6 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with T 9
4 folds, SB raises to $0.25, Hero calls $0.15

Flop: ($0.50) 2 3 J (2 players)
SB bets $0.32, Hero calls $0.32

Turn: ($1.14) 9 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.40, SB raises to $1.50, Hero calls $1.10

River: ($4.14) 3 (2 players)
SB bets $2.01, Hero calls $2.01

Results:

Spoiler

$8.16 pot ($0.37 rake)
Final Board: 2 3 J 9 3
SB showed A J and won $7.79 ($3.71 net)
Hero mucked T 9 and lost (-$4.08 net)

This is pretty bad against an unknown and I'm not quite sure what I was expecting to achieve. In game my thought process was that he's in SB and has a wide range, if I bet turn small for thin value he can make at least one call with A high or some weaker pair. In hindsight I'm not sure anything that I would assume would call the turn will be betting the flop. If he has 88 for example he will just check. A high maybe bets but that's about it for what could call the turn. Anyway, I called down since I was just bluffcatching and saw busted FD and busted SD; the 3 is a blank so blocks some sets and doesn't change much from the turn PLUS he bet half pot.

I wrote out a short analysis with some ranges and numbers but I don't want to write too much about this hand because I think it is simple: fold flop since I have a ton of better hands to float than this. If I don't fold the flop, fold the turn (if not fold, then consider 3bet-bluffing but probably not since I have better 9x hands that constitute the 'top of my folding range' ad T9o isn't one of them). As played, not sure if I have to call river or not, but it's probably just a fold there too.

regarding villain's play I like it, I think he got some good thin value vs the fish.

2.
SB: $11.70 (117 bb)
BB: $11.50 (115 bb)
UTG: $10.69 (106.9 bb)
MP: $13.89 (138.9 bb) UNKNOWN
Hero (CO): $21.62 (216.2 bb)
BTN: $10.49 (104.9 bb) 26/21 squeeze=8.5%

Preflop: Hero is CO with Q A
UTG folds, MP raises to $0.35, Hero calls $0.35, BTN calls $0.35, 2 folds

Flop: ($1.20) T 3 6 (3 players)
MP checks, Hero bets $0.57, BTN calls $0.57, MP folds

Turn: ($2.34) J (2 players)
Hero bets $1.50, BTN folds

This hand was interesting. I think it's a pretty marginal call preflop generally and in this case it should probably be a fold. Firstly he opens on the large side and he is an unknown, but most importantly I have a reg on the BU with a high squeeze.

On the flop once the PFA checks I feel like it's a good spot to stab. BU should have mainly PPs and SCs and when MP checks I guess he gives up. If I bet multiway here I should also get more FE. This is my best non-made hand on this flop so I stab it for half pot. I plan to barrel on all overcard turns and I will increase my sizing in case they peeled a bit lighter on the flop vs my halfpot bet. I think if overcards do come I can make him fold Tx, 99 and A6s by the turn or river, however if he does have a Tx hand it isn't so nice since I'm repping flopped sets or turned made hands... he might bluffcatch.

As played on the turn I follow my plan but the J is probably my least favourable card since he will have Jx hands like AJs, KJs, QJs JTs. However, he also has T9s 98s (which should fold river if it busts) and a bunch of 99, 88, 77 etc, which will probably fold on the turn or river. Add into that mix the fact that I turn the nut GS and I feel like I can't not bet now.

SB: $17.51 (175.1 bb)
BB: $11.60 (116 bb)
UTG: $17.31 (173.1 bb)
Hero (MP): $19.55 (195.5 bb)
CO: $13.11 (131.1 bb)
BTN: $10.74 (107.4 bb)

Preflop: Hero is MP with J J
UTG folds, Hero raises to $0.30, CO raises to $0.90, 3 folds, Hero calls $0.60

Flop: ($1.95) Q 5 2 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO checks

Turn: ($1.95) 3 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $1.22, Hero calls $1.22

River: ($4.39) 7 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO checks

Results:

Spoiler

$4.39 pot ($0.20 rake)
Final Board: Q 5 2 3 7
Hero showed J J and won $4.19 ($2.07 net)
CO mucked T T and lost (-$2.12 net)

Villain is an unknown.

I make a standard call preflop and I'm not terrible scared of the flop. Some random 3bet bluffs might have hit the Q but other than that I don't expect many Qx hands here so I plan to x/c. when he checks back I don't rule out him having a weak Qx but I think it's not likely since he will probably bet some for protection against FDs.

On the turn I decided to call his 2/3 pot bet since I believe he can have AK, Axs that bluffed pre and now has equity... If I remember correctly I planned on calling any river that wasn't a K or a 4. I don't think I should be too worried about diamonds since he should cbet those right? So plan was pretty much to call turn call river in this spot. I wasn't too happy with the idea because I don't know if I'll run into Qx often like that...

4.
Hero (SB): $17.50 (175 bb)
BB: $8.80 (88 bb)
UTG: $10 (100 bb)
MP: $10.10 (101 bb) unknown
CO: $26.74 (267.4 bb)
BTN: $20.74 (207.4 bb) 18/12 over solid sample.

Preflop: Hero is SB with K J
UTG folds, MP raises to $0.30, CO folds, BTN calls $0.30, Hero raises to $1.20, BB folds, MP calls $0.90, BTN calls $0.90

Flop: ($3.70) K 7 3 (3 players)
Hero bets $1.76

Wondering what people's thoughts are about this hand. I wasn't sure if it was a squeeze or a fold pre. I felt like if I squeezed BU would continue to setmine since we are deee (don't see what other hands he has) as long as MP called. So that was my general read on the situation - not too worried about BU being in the pot because he will wake up and tell me he has his set.

On the flop I don't really like the idea of x/c even though it's hard to see any worse Kx calling me. It's possible he has QQ and below, so I don't think my bet is terrible. I expect the BU will raise his sets now or just fold his PPs right away since this board smashes my range.

That's all I will post for now. Hopefully someone can give me some feedback. Not really sure what happened to pokerstrategy but I guess there's no way of having a coach analyse hands anymore :f_mad:

Since I don't have all of the time in the world I am going to try my best to get in 1 hour minimum per day, hopefully 1.5 or 2. that should equate to between 500-750 hands per day (2 tabling zoom). Today I played for approx 1.5 hours, ~750 hands.

Can't really be bothered to post any more hands though :f_rolleyes: I will eat food and go to my cabin for some deadlifting _ugly:

more hands from yesterday before i start my session:

1.
SB: $30.30 (121.2 bb)
Hero (BB): $25 (100 bb)
UTG: $20.72 (82.9 bb)
MP: $33.62 (134.5 bb)
CO: $46.02 (184.1 bb)
BTN: $25.75 (103 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Q T
UTG raises to $0.68, 3 folds, SB calls $0.58, Hero calls $0.43

Flop: ($2.04) 9 3 8 (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.97, 2 folds

Results:

Spoiler

$2.04 pot ($0.09 rake)
Final Board: 9 3 8
SB mucked and lost (-$0.68 net)
Hero mucked Q T and won $1.95 ($1.27 net)
UTG mucked and lost (-$0.68 net)

Both villains unknown. HU my BB flatting range vs UTG will be {JJ-22, AQs-ATs, KJs+, QJs, AQo}. since SB comes along I extend it in this case to what I would flat vs MP {JJ-22, AQs-ATs, KTs+, QTs+, JTs, AQo-AJo}.

on the flop I don't like donking but I'm not really sure what else to do. I feel like donking here does rep strength but at the same time I'm donking into a stronger range than mine. He has all JJ+ whereas neither me nor sb do. However, I plan to barrel so it is obviously not 1and done. My other options will be x/c and x/r. In hindsight I prefer x/c since I'm only really worried to see a club. I'm still not thrilled to see a K or A, since they hit UTG, but they also improve my equity. I won't be able to x/r this later on those flops since my FE is much reduced. I really don't know how I feel about donking but at the time it felt better.

2.
Hero (SB): $29.83 (119.3 bb)
BB: $12.77 (51.1 bb)
UTG: $44.08 (176.3 bb)
MP: $25 (100 bb)
CO: $26.55 (106.2 bb)
BTN: $26.65 (106.6 bb) 22/18, rfiBU = 58%, fold vs 3bet 51%, 4bet range = 2.5%, raise cbet 15%, 33% of those raises he folds.

Preflop: Hero is SB with Q 3
3 folds, BTN raises to $0.50, Hero raises to $1.75, BB folds, BTN calls $1.25

Flop: ($3.75) 2 8 3 (2 players)
Hero bets $1.90, BTN raises to $5.59, Hero raises to $28.08 and is all-in, BTN folds

Results:

Spoiler

$14.93 pot ($0.67 rake)
Final Board: 2 8 3
Hero mucked Q 3 and won $14.26 ($6.92 net)
BTN mucked and lost (-$7.34 net)

preflop my 3bet is just too wide. since I'm not really calling in SB ever I'm 3betting close to top 20% of hands in SBvBU but Q3s doesn't fit in there. this is more like top 35%.

either way, as played on flop i think it's a standard get it in. 3bet pot, FD + pair. I don't have a clickback range here so I just jam it. looks kinda large but i think it's ok?

3.
SB: $27.56 (110.2 bb)
BB: $24.65 (98.6 bb)
UTG: $23.86 (95.4 bb)
MP: $23.49 (94 bb)
Hero (CO): $28.48 (113.9 bb)
BTN: $29.35 (117.4 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with J Q
UTG folds, MP raises to $0.75, Hero calls $0.75, BTN calls $0.75, 2 folds

Flop: ($2.60) K T 3 (3 players)
MP bets $2.48, Hero calls $2.48, BTN calls $2.48

Spoiler

Turn: ($10.04) 9 (3 players)
MP checks, Hero bets $6.42, BTN calls $6.42, MP folds

River: ($22.88) 6 (2 players)
Hero bets $18.83, BTN calls $18.83

Results: $60.54 pot ($2 rake)
Final Board: K T 3 9 6
Hero showed J Q and won $58.54 ($30.06 net)
BTN mucked T T and lost (-$28.48 net)

I spoilered from the turn because I'm not really interested in later streets. Is the preflop call too loose? The people behind were tight over a small sample so I felt like I had the BU basically. Also, when he bombs flop he basically has AA and AK right? this makes my equity less since he blocks my outs. I felt like I just couldn't fold it since I have the OESD+BDFD. thoughts?

For some reason, I have no idea why, but I seem to just lose whenever I play on iPoker speed. On zoom I run fine and I'm a winner on nl25, but on speed I'm losing. The thing is I don't have any real incentive to play on zoom (other than I seem to win there?), but on the other hand I have a decent rakeback deal on iPoker. I would love to be motivated to grind speed and have some nice rakeback but it is quite difficult.

Lol at the below graphs. Graph 1 shows my hands played at pokerstars last year, most nl25. Graph 2 shows my hands played last year on iPoker last year. I show last year because I have practically no volume from this year. Also regarding volume, I was studying really hard at university so I didn't have so much time to invest into poker. iPoker handcount < stars simply due to motivation. Nevertheless, it's pretty funny to see the difference. Maybe it's just mindset, but pff!

Feel like cashing out iPoker and just focusing on stars, but man I hate to sacrifice the rakeback deal I have. For some reason I can't get HM2 to show winnings including rakeback.

this hand was pretty meh but I thought I'd take a look at my ranges for getting to each street. villain is unknown

SB: $25 (100 bb)
Hero (BB): $25 (100 bb)
UTG: $27.04 (108.2 bb)
MP: $31.30 (125.2 bb)
CO: $21.81 (87.2 bb)
BTN: $35.54 (142.2 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Q T
4 folds, SB raises to $0.62, Hero calls $0.37

Flop: ($1.24) 4 7 T (2 players)
SB bets $0.80, Hero calls $0.80

Turn: ($2.84) 4 (2 players)
SB bets $1.84, Hero calls $1.84

River: ($6.52) 8 (2 players)
SB bets $5, Hero calls $5

Results:

Spoiler

$16.52 pot ($0.74 rake)
Final Board: 4 7 T 4 8
SB showed 8 8 and won $15.78 ($7.52 net)
Hero mucked Q T and lost (-$8.26 net)

I didn't like calling but at the time I felt like I had one of the better hands for my range in that spot so I sighcalled. I do have KTs also, but after analysing each street I saw a couple of things.

firstly, I'm VERY close to the top of my range for getting to the river. The best hand I have is KT in this particular spot, at least the way I constructed my range.

secondly, I don't know about what my raising range will be on the turn. I was raising some 4x hands on the flop which meant that I only got to the turn with a couple of combos, which ultimately left me with a VERY tiny value range and subsequently an even smaller % of hands to bluff with. for that reason I thought maybe I don't have a raising range on the turn? it doesn't feel so right to not have a raising range there but I had only Ah4h, Ac4c. theoretically then I could have ~1 combo of bluffs on the turn. A lot of my turned FDs are nutted or K-high, meaning it would be pretty ugly to raise these and fold if he 3bet so i don't see myself raising FDs on the turn. Could raise some J8s, J9s on the turn but again, I raise most of these on the flop. maybe that means I should distribute my range a little more across streets.

anyway, i'll stop rambling. interested to hear some opinions if there is anybody still left in this graveyard of a site.

Take off showdown winnings and EV winnings from the graph and choose both: show rakeback/bonus and show winnings in $ or €. And make sure you have all rakebacks and bonuses in right places if you have to write them down manually.
That should do the trick :)
Im writing from mobile so I cant check if the options just mentioned were just like that but i think you can get the idea.

CHASING MY EV!!!

I'm focusing on volume. A huge mentalgame leak of mine was I used to play and (1) if I won lots I'd have winner's tilt and stop playing, feeling like I'm locking in a win for the day (I know, fishy as fuck) and (2) if I lose lots I'd tilt or quit BEFORE I tilt so I can save my precious bb. So I started waking up 1 hour earlier than I usually do so that I can play for 1 hour in the morning, and then when I get home in the evening I will also play another hour. 2 hours 4 tabling zoom means I'm getting some really nice volume compared to how I used to be. Hopefully I can hit goldstar on stars and buy myself the $75 bonus.

Going out of town for the weekend so probably no poker :( but :f_drink:

I'm back from my excursion, just finished my first session of the day. Here are some hands:

1.
SB: $10.32 (103.2 bb)
BB: $6.30 (63 bb)
Hero (UTG): $14.75 (147.5 bb)
MP: $10 (100 bb)
CO: $10.20 (102 bb)
BTN: $10.22 (102.2 bb)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with J J
Hero raises to $0.30, 4 folds, BB raises to $0.70, Hero calls $0.40

Flop: ($1.45) 6 8 5 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.69, BB calls $0.69

Turn: ($2.83) 3 (2 players)
BB checks, Hero checks

River: ($2.83) 5 (2 players)
BB bets $4.91 and is all-in, Hero calls $4.91

Results:

Spoiler

$12.65 pot ($0.57 rake)
Final Board: 6 8 5 3 5
BB showed K A and lost (-$6.30 net)
Hero showed J J and won $12.08 ($5.78 net)

Villain is an unknown but with that stack size he's a fish. I put him on overcards and assumed he might bluff them if he doesn't improve, and I guessed if he x/c flop with overcards he probably just folds to a 2nd barrel so I don't think there is too much value in barrelling turn. If he's slowplaying and I (1) bet turn I'm probably not folding to a x/jam; (2) check back turn I'm probably not folding to any sized bet on a brick since I'm in bluffcatch mode.

I don't particularly want to check back the turn and let him realise equity... I probably have 99+ or TT+ here as overpairs and AdKd AdQd, AhKh AhQh, if I don't get it in pre with AK vs his stack size (that's probably worth a separate discussion). I guess the main thing here is that I'm not folding anyway unless a Q K or A hits, and I'll consider folding if a :diamond: comes down too... other than that the outcome is the same: I bet, he jams, I call, or I check back, he bets river, I call, or I bet turn, he folds and I scoop a smaller pot.

2.
Hero (SB): $19.15 (191.5 bb)
BB: $24.82 (248.2 bb) 22/16, 4.8% 3bet, 10% 3bet in BBvSB, 35% A%
UTG: $16.89 (168.9 bb)
MP: $21.65 (216.5 bb)
CO: $10 (100 bb)
BTN: $9.14 (91.4 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A Q
4 folds, Hero raises to $0.30, BB raises to $0.90, Hero calls $0.60

Flop: ($1.80) T 3 Q (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $1.15, Hero calls $1.15

Turn: ($4.10) 6 (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $2.55, Hero calls $2.55

River: ($9.20) 2 (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $6.35, Hero folds

Results:

Spoiler

$9.20 pot ($0.41 rake)
Final Board: T 3 Q 6 2
Hero mucked A Q and lost (-$4.60 net)
BB mucked and won $8.79 ($4.19 net)

this hand sucked a bit and I'm not sure if I played it badly. basically I feel like when I x/c turn again I'm in bluffcatch mode and should continue to x/c on blank rivers. This was a blank river and I contradicted my turn plan thus should have folded turn. With that said, I feel like it's often ok to play this way since people (a) don't fire 3 barrels light very often at all; (b) do that even rarely in 3bet pots; and (c) probably NEVER do it while deep (I could be wrong!). So I feel like it's probably theoretically bad to x/c twice and fold ANY river, but practically I don't see what this guy can have here apart from QQ+, maybe he 3bet TT pre as well. Maybe he has the balls to play this way with a busted FD but I really just look like Qx and I'm not sure I expect Qx to fold.

3.
Hero (SB): $13.57 (135.7 bb)
BB: $7.58 (75.8 bb)
UTG: $8.94 (89.4 bb)
MP: $13.77 (137.7 bb)
CO: $10.10 (101 bb)
BTN: $18.72 (187.2 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A K
UTG raises to $0.35, 3 folds, Hero raises to $1.15, BB folds, UTG calls $0.80

Flop: ($2.40) 6 J T (2 players)
Hero bets $1.14, UTG calls $1.14

Turn: ($4.68) 8 (2 players)
Hero bets $2.10, UTG calls $2.10

River: ($8.88) A (2 players)
Hero???

Yeah I hit but so does he with this river. AJ, AT, KQ... To jam, x/c, or x/f?

4.
Hero (SB): $16.53 (165.3 bb)
BB: $9.44 (94.4 bb)
UTG: $10.79 (107.9 bb)
MP: $16.26 (162.6 bb)
CO: $15.52 (155.2 bb)
BTN: $21.72 (217.2 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with K Q
2 folds, CO raises to $0.30, BTN calls $0.30, Hero raises to $1.30, 2 folds, BTN calls $1

Flop: ($3) Q 2 4 (2 players)
Hero???

Villain unknown. What is our plan in this particular hand? What would our plan be 100bb deep? AQ is much clearer, but KQ feels quite strange. I feel like my line should either be b-b-x/f, or b-x/c-x/c or something. I'm really not sure here - don't have 3 streets but it's really quite strong as a bluffcatcher too...

5.
SB: $9.30 (93 bb)
Hero (BB): $11.65 (116.5 bb)
UTG: $11.20 (112 bb)
MP: $12.05 (120.5 bb)
CO: $10.39 (103.9 bb) 16/13, A% 40%.
BTN: $16.45 (164.5 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with T J
2 folds, CO raises to $0.25, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.15

Flop: ($0.55) 6 J T (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $0.40, Hero raises to $1.29, CO calls $0.89

Turn: ($3.13) 7 (2 players)
Hero bets $2, CO calls $2

River: ($7.13) 4 (2 players)
Hero???

Another sucky hand. preflop is a very close call but he opened a bit smaller so I felt stationy. x/r feels like the best way to get value here since the board connects quite well with him so I expect a cbet and I don't expect him to b/f. He has all OESDs, bunch of FDs, all overpairs. Turn barrel of course but when the river brings the flush I'm not quite sure how I should proceed. Is jamming the only play when we have these stack sizes?

I made a response to a thread about preflop play with AK and QQ, and I want to have it in here just for reference and maybe even discussion, so here it is:

I'll have a go at calculating the EVs since it's such a standard question and it's probably good practice for me to try out and good for you/someone to at least read if not try it out/check yourself. As a disclaimer I'm not good at maths and it's possible that I do something wrong. If you or anyone else notice anything then please let me know. I'll spoiler it because it's long.

Spoiler

(1)
Blinds are posted (1.5bB) and villain opens (3bb+1.5bb), you 3bet (9bb+3bb+1.5bb) and he 4bets to around 22bb. The pot is currently 35.5 and you are either going to fold or jam for your remaining 91bb. You know he won't fold anyway, because he only 4bets his QQ+ and AK.

EVjam = (pWin * vWin) – (pLose * vLose)
EVjam = (.398 * 110.5) - (.602 * 91)
EVjam = -10.803bb

Where p = probability and v = value of that outcome.

2)
Blinds are posted (1.5), you open (1.5+3) he 3bets (1.5+3+9) and you 4bet (22bb) with the intention of calling a 5bet-shove. So instead of investing a further 91bb as we did above after 3betting 9bb, we have to invest a further 78bb. The pot that we are considering fighting for = 1.5+3+9+22+91 = 126.5bb. So:

EV(calljam) = (pWin * vWin) – (pLose * vLose)
EV(calljam) = (.398 * 126.5) - (.602 * 78)
EV(calljam) = +3.391bb

This is a really simplified question though. In situation 1, villain will have a 4bet-bluffing range. It wouldn't be right to assume that he doesn't. If you have information that he doesn't 4bet-bluff then why would you try and get it in with QQ+ and AK? That brings up the point that QQ+ and AK are profitable mainly due to the FE that they generate when villain has bluffs. For example if villain 3bets/5bets (or 4bets/calls) QQ+, AKs, A5s-A2s, AKo, AJo, KJo (5.58%), continuing only with QQ+ and AK (2.56%) and folding with the rest (54.12%) of his range, then the above situations are as follows:

1)
To calculate the EV of our 3bet/5bet with AK we need to know his opening range. We could give him a ~CO opening range of {22+, A2s+, K7s+, Q8s+, J8s+, T8s+, 97s+, 86s+, 76s, 65s, A8o+, K9o+, QTo+, JTo}[27.60%]. Thus, from this he is 4betting with, let’s say (5.58/27.60) = 20.21% of hands and folding 79.79% of his range.... Blinds are posted (1.5bb) and villain opens (3bb+1.5bb) with his 27.60% range, you 3bet (9bb+3bb+1.5bb) with your QQ/AK and he 4bets to around 22bb with that range 20.21% of the time, folding 79.79% of the time. The pot is currently 35.5 and you are either going to fold or jam vs his 4bet for your remaining 91bb. You know he calls it off only with QQ+ and AK, which represents 45.88% of his 4betting range, and folds the remaining 54.12% of his 4betting range.

EV3b5b = (pFolds * vFolds) + p4bets * (EV5bet)
EV5bet = (pFolds|5b * vFolds|5b) + pCalls * ((pWeWin * vWeWin) – (pWeLose * vWeLose))
EV5bet = (.5412 * 35.5) + (.4588 * (.398 * 101.5) – (.602 * 91))
EV5bet = -17.035

So now that we have EV5bet, we can add this into our EV3b5b formula:

EV3b5b = (pFolds * vFolds) + (p4bets * (EV5bet))
EV3b5b = (.7979 * 4.5) + (.2021 *-17.035)
EV3b5b = 3.591 + -3.443
EV3b5b = +0.148

2)
The other situation involves us open raising (1.5+3), villain 3betting (9bb), us 4betting and investing a further 19bb (4bet to 22bb), villain jamming, and us calling. So we are interested in knowing the EV of our 4bet/call with AK and QQ.

EV4bCall = (pFolds * vFolds) + pJams * (EV|heJams)

So we calculate the EV given that he jams over our 4bet and we call off our remaining 78bb with our QQ and AK. The pot is 1.5+3+9+:
EV|heJams = (pWin * vWin) - (pLose * vLose)
EV|heJams = (.398 * 101.5) - (.602 * 78)
EV|heJams = -6.559

So now this leaves us with:

EV4bCall = (pFolds * vFolds) + pJams * (EV|heJams)
EV4bCall = (.5412 * 13.5) + (.4588 * -6.559)
EV4bCall = +4.297

This is not the EV of our single decision, but with our overall strategy with AK and QQ (i.e. to 3bet/5bet, or to raise/4bet/call).

So to summarise this, the EV of our plan to 4bet and call with QQ and AK against a range of QQ+ and AK is +4.29bb. The EV of our plan to 3bet/5bet with QQ and AK against a 4betting range of 5.58% and a subsequent 5bet-calling range of 2.56% is +0.15bb. These both assume conservative bluffing ranges of villain. If we assume that villain has no bluffing range then the EV of jamming QQ and AK over villain's 4bet is -10.80bb, and the EV of raise/4bet/calling with QQ and AK against villain's range of QQ+ and AK is +3.39. In short, it is often quite close in this spot which ultimately means that whatever decision you make is very close to breakeven. It is also the case that sometimes you will be raped by rake. However, in aggro games it should be the better option for your entire range. If you only play aggressively with 12 combos (i.e. KK+) then villain will play close to perfectly against you, assuming he pays attention (which is much more likely in aggressive games where villains are a bit better). Other than that, it is DEFINITELY not an auto stack-off with QQ and AK. Finally, I've completely disregarded the EV calculations when villain calls our 3bet, or even calls our 4bet - which are 2 situations that are obviously going to happen a fair amount of the time. With AK and QQ we want a low SPR so it makes more sense to bloat the pot preflop.

The main point is this: If you think that villain only 3bets you with QQ+, AK and won't fold anything to a 4bet, then don't 4bet with QQ and AK and then shit yourself when he obviously jams on you. You knew he would jam on you, so you shouldn't have 4bet it if you weren't prepared to call it off.

If you 3bet and he just jams on you without 4betting to a normal size, just fold it: even with QQ, against a jam your EV is about -4.375bb assuming non-blind positions and 9bb 3bet over a 3x open. This is a good thing in a way, because you can now play perfectly against him, calling only KK+ for an EV of +44.982bb against his range.

Phew, I need a food/drink break and then a session after that thinking.

I've been procrastinating with work for quite some time now. I've been tasked to write a literature review regarding decision making under stress for a project I'm helping out with. I might write some stuff if they apply to poker and I'll put it here, but that's only if I actually pull my finger out and start working :f_ugly:

So far the volume leakplugging is going well - waking up 1 hour earlier still and grinding for an hour is working out great and this month I have ~16k hands. Unfortunately results are only breakeven thanks to my shit run and I'm still running into people's nuts but I'm thinking hard about the game all the time and I've also started reading Will Tipton's Expert HU NLHE :D :D

Off to university now to dream about poker.

So I didn't play yesterday - I got home from uni and chilled out, reading some of the Mathematics of Poker about v:b and defence frequencies based on bet sizes. I know I'm only on nl10 and nl25 and these things are largely irrelevant but sometimes I feel like studying theory is at least as fun as playing!
