I think the easiest way to learn new ranges is to simply put it all in your wallpaper. It's really important to color code everything though. Suited broadways in green, suited connectors in yellow, suited one gappers in orange, suited two gappers in red. All offsuit cards as white. This way when you're dealt a hand, you just have to think what kind of hand you have (suited or not, broadway or connector). Color coding will parse 90% of all information on the screen for you.

For broadways, ++ means any combination of cards above the initial cards (overriding information on left takes precedence)
eg: [A2s+, QTs++] means suited aces with all kickers, and KTs+, QTs+.

For connectors, ++ means increasing both cards.

Single + means increasing the kicker only.

Holy shit, I loved that. How can I get one? What if I want to edit a few things? How did you make it?

I used photoshop to make it, but you can actually use any free online image editor with layers (like sumopaint) so you don't have to install a program to make one.

Just use any wallpaper you like (if you use sumopaint, go to file->open from...), then add text as a layer and position how you like.

If you want to maximize text space, use PrtScr on your keyboard and paint to save a picture of your desktop with poker tables open. Open this picture in sumopaint, ctrl-A to select all, ctrl-C to copy, then open the wallpaper you like, ctrl-V to paste, lower opacity of pasted desktop layer to have a visual what space is usable with tables open. Obviously you want to use a wallpaper in sumo that is the same size as your desktop resolution.

You can even save the finished file in sumo format, so you can edit later, just like photoshop.

If you want a neat desktop without clutter, you want to keep all shortcuts in the taskbar. The default W7 taskbar is crap though, and you need to tweak it a little bit.

1.) unlock your taskbar

2.) right click your taskbar -> Toolbars -> New toolbar (make and select a new folder, this will contain all shortcuts of said toolbar). Toolbars are like containers in your taskbar that contain shortcuts.

3.) right click the new toolbar -> disable "Show Text" and "Show title"

4.) drag the toolbar handle all the way to the left, takes a bit of playing around to understand how they work. Just play with the handles.

5.) drag shortcuts from desktop to toolbar. You can have multiple different toolbars, one for games, one for apps, one for drives etc.

@c0wking:
Thanks a lot for your valuable advice when creating wallpapers for the desktop!

:appl:

Your creativity arose an idea in my head that could be of additional help when using wallpapers:
I roughly remember that for visually handicapped people there exists something like a "magnifying lense" that magnifies anything that you hover the mouse over. Do you think it's possible to magnify parts of the wallpaper whereas moving the mouse over the tables doesn't magnify anything?

Hello, w34z3l. I apologize for my English, because I write with the help of google translator. A question for you: where $ / hour above normal or fast cash tables?

Also, I would like to say that my English are not the best!

1st Homework

Input Open raising ranges and Cold calling ranges

Spoiler

My Bankroll Plan is:

I will start with 15BI at NL10, as you can see I will reload if I lose 5BI at NL10
and this because I play on ipoker (pokerstats not tracked, I want to reach gold status to watch the whole series). The problem on ipoker is that, all the NL4 tables are for beginners and i cant join!
I hope to be lucky and do not need to reload!

Also, the bigger the level, the more BI I will need to move there and I will spend more BI for my Shots!

I calculated R-o-R for all NL levels and also for different Bankrolls.
The win-rate I used is 1.5bb/100.

If I reach the NL50 I will also include a cash-out Strategy:

Spoiler

This strategy is not mine I read it in a forum before a long time.

I would like to say thanks to Alleen86 for all the Spreadsheets and all the great work in this thread!
Very helpful!

2nd Homework

Input 3-bet ranges

Spoiler

Iso-raising

When I iso-raise the first think I check is my position, the better the position the looser we can Iso-raise.
Second I check Limper's FtFlopCB stat in my HUD,for players that play fit or fold after the flop we should Iso much wider.
Also I check,If there are any very aggressive players left to act, cause if there is someone that can 3-bet light we have to use a much tighter range of hands for Iso.
As for the stack of my villain, I don't care much except he is shallow(maybe<30BB) or he has a very low FtFlopCb,cause almost every player that limps too much is a very weak player. Those Players don't know that they have to raise when they come in 1st. I don't expect him to know SSStrategy or the difference between Short and Deep play.If a villain has 70% of Ftcb, He will fold most of the times with 100BB or 50BB. Maybe I am wrong but until know this works fine for me. Correct me Pls if I am making a big mistake.

ex. This guy was limping about 55% and folding 70% on the Flop.

Spoiler

IPoker, $0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools by CardRunners - Hand Details

SB: $11.14 (111.4 bb)
BB: $14.52 (145.2 bb)
UTG: $9.86 (98.6 bb)
MP: $5.84 (58.4 bb)
CO: $1.42 (14.2 bb)
Hero (BTN): $10 (100 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with 9 6
2 folds, CO calls $0.10, Hero raises to $0.40, 2 folds, CO calls $0.30

Flop: ($0.95) 6 7 A (2 players)
CO checks, Hero bets $0.66, CO folds

I liked the categorization that Alleen86 used and I used the same.
I used almost the same ranges for BTN,but I would like to be a little tighter early cause there are many player left to act, So i removed some hands from MP and CO.

FtFlopCb<50%

Spoiler

MP

CO

BTN

SB

BB

50%<FtFlopCB<70%

Spoiler

MP

CO

BTN

SB

BB

70%<FtFlopCB

Spoiler

MP

CO

BTN

SB

BB

Postflop I will Play according to the part 4 lines if the villain has <50% or he is an unknown.
The bigger the FtFlopCb stat is the more frequently I will Cb, If he is in the 3rd category I will Cb every Flop!
...

Has anyone else used these iso-raising ranges? They seem pretty solid, what do you think W34z3l?

I've been watching the 2 first videos of the serie but since I'm really new at this I wonder if they are good default ranges that I can gradually modify for my own preferences.

@w34z3l.... not sure if this has been discussed or not but aren't the 4betting ranges really bluff heavy? Like in every position there are wayyy more bluff > value combos

E.G : UTG vs 3b 4bet IP AhAs, AhAc, AsAc, KhKs, KhKc, KsKc, AJs-ATs, AQo-AJo

Thats 6 value combos and 32 bluff combos... is it because we expect villian not to be capable adjusting to min 5B bluff, calling or jamming wider with like 99,88...

part 8 - 3 bet pots ooP:

Very good vid as always!! :appl:

I just missed one aspect of 3-bet pot that seems to be of considerable importance to me:

the lower stack to pot ratio (SPR)

This leads normally to the fact that a bet bet bet line is for stacks up to 120 to 150 bb effective stacksize.
Even more so any call of a postflop raise equals playing for stacks.
This generally leads to a strategy versus competent opponents where hero would have to stack off a lot lighter than in single raised pots. You could also say that postflop play in 3 bet pots should be similar to playing single raised pots in a mid stack strategy. Either way - on well-suited boards any overpair becomes a hand hero should more tend to bet/shove on the flop then to bet/fold - vs. a competent opponent as said before.

Having this said (sorry for getting lengthy again) I'd like to pose 2 questions:
1. Do you think the lower SPR is reflected well enough in your gameplan or should there be some adjustments regarding the possibility that raising could potentially mean to shove?
2. This is a micro stakes series. What percentage of unknown players do you expect to understand this concept of lightly stacking off - and from what limit on would you consider this form of strategy to be default? (I currently play NL 50 zoom)

Wait - a third question arose just now - having nothing to do with the SPR:
3. At some points of the vid you advise to x/r when a dry flop gets drawy on the turn. Where do you draw the line between the advantage of making draws more expensive with this raise and the downside of potentially giving a free card which is obviously a desaster versus decent draws. Is it just the characteristic of the opponent or do we need to do a complete hand reading there and decide according to villains perceived range?

Thank you in advance - keep up the great work!

@ribpoker

1) pretty sure SPR wasn't discussed in this video, at least not in any depth. The video is not about stack to pot ratios. It is about play in 3bet pots where standard sizings are assumed. 100bb stacks, where it is possible to 3barrel. Not sure where you got the idea that you need 120-150bb stacks to 3barrel in a 3bet pot. You can even 3barrel with 50bb stacks in a 3bet pot if you use appropriate sizings. So yeah, SPR was reflected because the video is about 1 constant SPR and not about adjusting play for different SPR's. That is outside the scope of this video and the series.

2) I don't really understand the question. Is lightly stacking off a concept? _ugly: Even if it was the question is somewhat vague.

3) Yup, villains tendencies, range. Add in a few x/r to make you tougher to play against by default also. Naturally x/r is a necessary part of balanced strategy vs tougher opponents.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to answer!
I'll try to clarify my questions where I couldn't get myself understood in the first attempt - probably due to a mixture of bad english and bad poker knowledge :f_rolleyes:

1) the 120 - 150 bb are just derived from normal bet sizes preflop, flop and turn and the assumption that if a normal river size would be more than half of the remaining effective stack one would shove right away instead of a regular bet size. I didn't mean that it is necessary to have 120 bb in order to 3 barrel but only that a 3 barrel in a 3 bet pot often equals playing for stacks which is not the case in single raised pots.
2) Stacking off light: what I mean (I read it some time ago or maybe saw it in some pokerstrategy vids - maybe from Fallout86) is the following: as the SPR decreases it is necessary to lower the requirements of hero's hand for stacking off post flop. As I mentioned above, an overpair would per default be a bet/push kind of hand on the flop whereas vs. most opponents it would be a bet/fold on the flop in a single raised pot. In other words, an overpair would be played like a monster in a 3 bet pot and only like a made hand in a single raised pot. Is it clear now, and would you agree? Or is that too advanced for the micros? Or just plain false?
3) Clear for me now - even though still hard to distinguish from what threshold a hand should be either put in the x/r range or in the leading range. In my opinion it should be the ratio between villains flop and turn cbet value, like if it's higher than 70% (turn/flop cbet) go for the x/r, if it's less than 50% lead out yourself and in between take more effort in giving villain a good range and decide how many draws vs. made hands vs. bluffs could be in his range. The more made hands plus bluffs the more you go for the x/r. More draws mean hero's tendency should go towards leading the turn.
Would you agree?

Cheers

Are those Ranges just optimized for Zoom or also usable for normal tables?
