Unless you are sure he sucks hard you made a pretty good fold. When you have the read that he limped AJo UTG it means he is not a giant spazz maniac but a weak tight fish which makes the fold even better.

I like shoving preflop better.

Preflop you are 80%+ favourite. I would like to put all money with it.

If his range is QQ+, AK. super close. AA vs his range has 35.42 equity. But we need only 35.21 to rais him all in if he calls 100%.
If he is fishy and we see that he has huge stack, we can assume that he calls lite and put AQ and JJ in his range, then its easy push over his bet.

But I would per flop re rais him to ~2.50 and all in on flop.

All in preflop for me, easy game. Fold flop as played imo.

What would you do with AK/KK-JJ here pre? Vs rec player no need to open smaller sized 5b ranges here especially oop, just jam it in as well as all the other value hands. Either he has the hand he wants to call or he doesn't, either way our ev will be on it's highest pre flop here with no super special reads.

At NL5 you will hardly meet somebody that will 4bet and will fold to 5bet. With shoving you will get calls (of course not always, but enough often ) by hands like AK that otherwise would re-consider calling a bet on 5T8 flop for example.
Vs. unknown shoving pre is much better imo.
