Don't forget that there are very long threads about both Thai and Phils (as well as Cambodia, Vietnam, South Korea) in 2+2's Other Topics -> Travel subforum.

The reason why I stressed the language issue is that, naturally, tourist locations in Thai are rich in bar girls and golddiggers. Unfortunately, it's common among poker expats to look exactly for them, but as you're more romantic and serious, I'm afraid you'll need to venture into less touristy places to have a better chance to find true love. But when I was talking about Filipinas, I meant the prevalence of basic level English, not fluency :f_cry:

I'm afraid you're going to be treated like a Santa Claus anyway and thus have 'success' just because you're a foreigner. That's the disadvantage of having a 'yellow fever' :f_tongue:

Let's see what your expat and native acquaintances will say.

Yes, I am checking those out also. As with everything, those threads can have bunch of info that is not that useful because people spam all over with unnecessary info. I find the best way is to always talk to people that lived and still live in those countries. Those people have the 1st hand experience and can shed a light on what you can expect.

Actually me going there has nothing to do with finding true love nor the gold diggers. It has more to do with living in a country where I can visit beach, have more relaxed life style and have opportunity to learn and meet more of Asian culture.
Girls come and go, so girl in Thailand and girl in Phillipines or somewhere else is not a deal changer or brake for me.
I can definitely fly to Japan from Thailand easier and less costly compared to say from Serbia :)
As far as their language skills go, as long as they can explain where best beach is, some historical monuments and stuff like where bank/ATM is, I am good to go :)

I'm afraid you're going to be treated like a Santa Claus anyway and thus have 'success' just because you're a foreigner. That's the disadvantage of having a 'yellow fever' :f_tongue:

Yeah but I somewhat have same problem in Serbia. I lived abroad 7 years, now I do job which brings money in country that has no jobs and economically is very pour in standing. In that sense I am not average Serbian guy who stays at his parents home, is jobless and just hangs out whole day in coffee places etc :)
I learned to deal with those kind of girls. I don't let them get near by nor take advantage of me in any way. They might think they can get their ways with me but I am pretty exclusive when it comes to that kind of behavior - I just don't tolerate it as I value other things in girls. All my long term gfs had their own life and careers and were independent woman. Not looking for some gold digger or leach that doesn't have her life sorted - if you get my feel ;)
There will of course be tons of Asian girls that will want a sugar daddy or a sponsor because of economic situation in their countries but if I look for anything serious I will of course follow my selection process super carefully. My instinct with long term gfs was never off!

Let's see what your expat and native acquaintances will say.

I already got info for Thailand, Pattaya and some for Manila.
Pattaya with 1k$ per month I can go by and live normal life (studio + food + bills + bike and gas + some other expenses). 1.5k$ would get me even more things like trips and girls for hire. 2k$+ is just very easy life.
For Manila I heard the prices are not that different but actually even higher. So it seems similar so far but as I mentioned earlier I haven't made any definite decision. I am just in the process of keeping my eyes and ears open, reading things and getting educated on how things are over there, talking to people that were or are there etc
Eventually I will make a educated decision, whether it is going there for a month, 3 , 6 , year or longer!

Enjoy your weekend Tony and all the people following the blog :)

P.S. Since I came back from seaside I have gotten back very steady into studying, grinding and coaching. Very satisfied how things are going and seems like July will be another successful month in terms of finishing most if not all things I have set out to do!

Thanks, let you crush all areas of life too :f_love:

You've just had a sort of a moment of fame - near the end of tonight's (non-strategic) 'Community Show' of Pokerstrategy (which I was listening to while waiting for the coffee to kick in :f_biggrin: ), Collin Moshman was asked by LemOn36 which poker players he respects the most, and Collin named you, along with abarone68, as his 'idols', those who work the hardest and have consistent results. That's fame, congrats :f_cool:

Thanks Tony!
I did not watch the show but hearing this from you really makes me feel special. Collin is a legend for SNG poker, he is a great guy and I always enjoy talking to him and doing those coachings with him. Time flies we have so much fun while doing it and every time we did it there was a lot of people attending those webinars. I hope in future we will get more chances to do those and provide value for whole PS community.

Time for a quick update:
My good friend, basketball coach is here and yesterday we went out and I got hammered so bad. Ended up home at 4:30am and then a girl coming over around 6am until 8am (she sent me message on Viber and we hooked up so easy it was like in the movies lol) then sleeping whole day in 3 different rounds. That's what happens when I go on vacation and tick off poker while people important to me and my life are around me :)
Poker wise, I am doing well, coaching steady, working on the game OK but could be more (trouble when being perfectionist there is never enough of studying and improving!!!), grinding now on brakes.
Very important thing to update is that tonight I finished filling questionnaire from mental game and life coach. I will have my 1st mental game coaching session tomorrow at 10am. I very much look forward to it as by the time I filled the whole thing it took me close to 3 hours and felt like I was visiting some sort of shrink :) I hope that coach will prove to be good enough to provide me additional value in full filling my poker and life dreams into reality.

Enjoy remaining of your weekend on and off the tables!

I don't remember True Romance movie while Pretty Woman is also in dark somewhat although classic :)
Nothing like that though, pure unplanned hook up :)

Time for a update!

This one will be dedicated to coaching session I had with mental and life coach. If you are interested or considering taking such service, keep reading about my experience.

Preparation
I got a questionnaire that contained 35 questions which took me close to 3 hours to fill in. That alone showed me that person I was about to have session takes his work seriously, will take time to study your answers to those questions and construct a proper plan in session to tackle them all!
Even tough it took me 3 hours to complete all the questions, re-reading everything back to myself like 3-4 times really helped and opened up my mind more. How so? Simply because I was checking if there was something that was conflicting, if from my mission and vision there were some things that were not included or if some things that are not listed took too much of my time overall.

One of the questions in the questionnaire was to list 5 things that I feel coach can help me with. Whether that was mental game related, life related, poker related - just choose and write them.
This question was one of the key question because I also responded like the whole questionnaire open and honestly and wrote that I am unsure if current coach can help me with the 5 areas I listed - simply because I am taking a serious approach already to getting all those things in synch and on track on my own.

It will turn out that 90 minutes of coaching spent, we covered most time in those 5 areas that I felt I needed help with.

Actual Coaching
1st thing that was interesting is the coach wanted to do coaching with webcam! So we could see each other and not just do audio call.
You all know and learn in life how to read body language at some point. When you talk to somebody, they can tell the words one way but the body language can project a totally different story.
So in that sense I loved the idea and of course I jumped into it, switched from my desktop to laptop (cause I have webcam there) and was ready to start.

From the beginning mental game coach pointed out that he read my questionnaire numerous times and that he feels very excited to meet and work with me. He said that he hasn't had nowhere near enough people with success stories who came to him nor somebody who took all the time to fill everything 100% open and honest and really take time to dig into it.

His method of coaching was very interesting and correct in my opinion. It consists of 2 phases, phase 1 ASKING QUESTIONS and phase 2 PROVIDING ADVICE.
As simple as this sounds, this is the core foundation for any coach out there who have students that know where they are not doing their best.
So this method lead to us discussing all my goals, time management, mission and vision. I went through with every system that I use to track my goals and time + ways that work or don't work. Through process of him asking questions and me responded, he picked up some great things from responses and provided immediate feedback.
Example, we covered me working out part with CrossFit vs other sports. It took me a while, but I finally admitted to myself that I don't want to be doing CrossFit to become best there is in this sport! I instead want to do CrossFit as means to stay healthy, to work on my body and to keep in shape. So automatically this changes approach and my mental barriers towards returning to training. We came to conclusion that if mentally I feel about 2 work outs per week work for me, then I should set up with my time management and systems to do trainings 2 times per week. Whenever my body and mind feel ready for more and opportunity opens that it doesn't conflict with my time management and other important things in my life, I can jump in and do 3 or more work outs.
So this was pretty great stuff because in my head I was holding myself back from working out, knowing how much sacrifice and hard work it took to go through 1 month of training, how even after that 1 month beginner course trainings kept getting harder and harder and I kept pushing myself more and more. In the end results were phenomenal no doubt, after 4 months of training I went to Herceg Novi with 10kgs less and in shape ready to swim run do all sorts of sports and have tons of energy. This of course was great but like with everything in life it takes some other things in life which in my case is studying time in particular which is super important to me.

Instead of going too much into further detail now, I will list all the areas that we covered in 90 minute session and what was the end result after the session.

- Time management and goal setting for all the life areas I want to keep building on
- To keep improving mental game for CG especially for higher limits where swings are larger financially (5k+ loss days etc)
- Ways to decrease stress, scheduling brakes and taking time off/implementing vacations etc
- Money management, investing and saving
- Finding some suitable gf for long term relationship

Finally, let me tell you the end results.

After coach heard my ways of dealing with all the things that I feel are important in my life as mission and vision that I have for my life, he was very specific and happy and just said (I am paraphrasing here) YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT YOU WANT AND YOU ARE ALREADY DOING IT!
The end result after 90+ minutes is that coach was thrilled to do a session with me, he didn't want to charge anything but I insisted on paying because he really did help me see where my conflicting areas are and how there is no time to fit it all in with the results that I aim and want to have in my life in poker etc

I am very happy that I took the coaching, connected with coach, got very valuable feedback for all the things that matter to me and the areas that I am doing and want to keep going at. Coach provided very useful feedback regarding my different time management samples and priorities, approach to fitness and healthy lifestyle and all the rest of things that I would need another 90 minutes to talk about.
Another interesting thing about session is that coach said WE ARE DONE HERE, THERE IS NO NEED FOR 2nd SESSION! He said that only if I want to get in touch with him and let him know how I am doing with it all that we can schedule but scheduling next session for sake of scheduling is not going to bring any +EV for me - which just leads to what I was saying earlier that he confirmed - I am already doing everything I need to be doing to reach the mission and vision for my life!

What did this 1 coaching session do for me?

It helped me 100% understand and clear doubts that I had about my mission and vision in relation to my time management and goal planing
It helped me actually see what is number 1 thing that is causing me most stress right now and for some time in the past
It helped me actually take all my things from mission and vision and create order of importance to each of them and hours within given day/month for time management
It helped and encouraged me that I am already doing so many great things about my life path and poker improvement that I am heading very rapidly to destinations I plan to arrive on

In the end, coach said that if there is any way I get to his country or perhaps we be somewhere close in Europe that he would be thrilled to meet me live have some coffee. He also said that he will come to my performance in my own music club for live jazz performances :)

Overall very positive experience and something that I recommend all poker players to look into. If you need me to recommend the mental game coach, I can definitely do that, get back to me via community message and I can send you his info. His rates are not very high right now but you will get definitely more than you pay for - just be prepared and know what you want in your life and he can really help and guide you.

What I Will Do Soon Here
In order to help all the good people out there who read follow and implement advices from blog in their life, I will post different time managements with my life priorities.
I will also list out ways that I alternate things in my time management to keep it fresh interesting and to accomplish maximum amount of set goals.

Future months will be focusing my goal on GRINDING primarily while studying and coaching will be maintained at very high level. Expect minimum 7 hours of daily poker activities and more.

Thank You all for reading the update and I sincerely hope that from this update you will consider dealing with your life mission and vision more in depth, work on your time management and systems very seriously and finally seek help and support from people that you feel can bring +EV in your life path and decisions!

Checked the movie, saw it when I was much younger. Brutal line up of actors and very memorable. :)

nice time management, but intresting to see you choose to not play that much during late evenings when its normaly more fishes at the tables but maybe that have to do with your location in the world,,

really intresting to read about your coaching session,, alot of good things to learn from you :f_thumbsup:

Thanks rompas!

It is true that there is better and juicier games in the evening times. However I don't find this to be problem at current stake I am playing which is nl50. There is a lot of weak and bad regs, tons of recreational players. So I don't feel the need to play 6pm to 2am or so with more table selecting to maximize the EV.
I prefer having a steady schedule which focuses on finishing the most important part of my poker career as early as possible during the day. The reason why this works the best is because of energy levels. The more that day goes by, the less energy you have - you get tired. I get up at 7:30am, latest at 8am, so to start grind at 6pm on doesn't make sense. Also important thing to note that even other activities that you do in your life, whether its having coffee with friends or finishing some chores of a sort, these things also require energy and focus - not as much as playing 800+hands per hour mass multi tabling but certainly they also take your energy and focus that can add up.
With all said, I prefer to finish my studying and grinding by the 6-7pm. After this time I prefer to do studying of 1 hour which is all about reviewing hands for that day, taking notes, analyzing opponents that I frequently encounter, marking some hands for more in depth analysis and doing range brake down. Most importantly this type of daily review after whole grinding is done is meant to evaluate as correct as possible how much variance affected my play in that day, how many stacks more could I have won, where did I make the mistake, where should I have taken a different line - that sort of a thing. While studying in a morning is much different type of study, you can guess why? More energy and will power to crush from getting up early so that is when studying is focusing on theory, math, ranges, new concepts, constructing proper things and focusing on GTO etc.

I feel for grinding things will change when I get to NL200+. NL100 will also not be a problem for grinding since there is solid traffic during the day for it everywhere. Also, I did (and still do) multiple consultations and study sessions with NL100 guys. The way that they analyze hands, the mistakes that I have seen in their range construction, all the stuff leads me to believe in my ability even more. Also, 90%+ of them asked me "why are you not playing NL100 yet?" and told me "you should definitely play Nl100 soon". However NL200+ guys, especially solid winner ones, they have more things under their fingers and are not as lost as NL100 guys are post flop. In that sense NL50 is piece of cake compared to NL200 , which after 6 months of doing CG I now see that it really is. So far NL200 I will have to restructure the time management and grind afternoons to mornings or start like 10 different clients and get 1-2 tables on each of them constantly. This will not be a big deal because playing NL200+ would mean 10k+ months and for that sort of money I can restructure my day for specific period of time. Who knows, maybe in 1-2 years poker gets back in USA and traffic gets boosted, or it gets worse with regulations knocking doors everywhere around the world ;)

Plan for the August will be to go for 120 hours on NL50. Since I value BR management very much, I will not be moving to NL100 yet full time. I feel that my game is ready to beat NL100 as well but I will patiently rebuild BR with NL50 for next 3 months or so and then shoot without any financial pressure NL100 from November on. Life plans are getting in the way for sooner move up. I plan in mid September to go to USA for 1 month minimum and for visa and whole trip + expenses I plan to save up additional 2-3k in August.
With all said, August will reveal a lot about my mental game improvement because I will get back to steady grinding and put high volume in. Day in and day out suck outs for 100 euro pots :) Will be lots of fun!

Glad you enjoyed part about coaching session. I hope many people learned something from it and will apply it in their own life approach and poker.

well i like that you have a good balance with things in life, not only poker,,

i do agree about energy levels and my way to solve that is to take afternoon naps, after training and lunch which makes me feel ready for evening sessions. i am not that far balanced as you but trying to changes some things,, like eating healthier food, training regularly, so will continue read your blog and pick up some hints to be better in many ways :f_thumbsup:

Well as far as balance goes I am not 100% happy because there is some areas that I would like to dedicate more time to but I don't because of my poker career goals. And I am FINE with that. In fact I don't have any bad feelings towards that whatsoever.
Once I reach my poker goal in CG that I aim for, I will have way more time for other things that I don't do as much now. That is the whole point of this maximum dedication to poker anyways.

Good plan for napping and such things to regenerate. They certainly help but remember that there is a difference if you play 5 tables and 10+ for 7 hours per day. For most guys who can mass multi table better, they can play all day long lower tables and not get tired. So in that sense it is not all about the hours. Somebody can say "I grind 7 hours per day" and we can all be amazed by that or not. The key thing is finding right number of tables that challenge you to keep pushing yourself, to use gut + theory backed decisions and to do recall with unconscious competence. If you play bellow your performance zone, it becomes easy, if you force yourself it becomes a burn out of a sort. So balancing right number of tables is crucial not just for volume goals but for making sure that you don't burn out long term and to keep going day in and day out!

Keep reading, glad you are following - hope you find some new things in the future that can benefit You and others who follow of course!

So many things to update about!

Basic and quick update for now :)
- Coaching going super great, lots of hours and students really giving their best to maximize their time working with me
- Grinding nowhere near enough in fact it is on hold due to some life things that I will talk about soon
- Studying going well also, I manage to go through hands daily, watch videos and recap on my game plan frequently enough

Now 2 very important news:
1) I am in negotiations for long term staking and coaching deal for CG. I got different offers and very soon I will make the final decision. Idea is to be staked to comfortably play in near future nl200+ which I am very much looking forward to obviously.
2) I applied for USA tourist visa! Yes, in near future if all goes according to plan, I will visit Boston place where I spent lovely 5 years go to NYC every weekend and find time to visit VEGAS. All this should happen (if all goes according to plan) for 4 weeks end of September!

The long term deal that I was waiting for 7+ weeks did not work out as I hoped it would. I got accepted to work with one of my poker idols but that acceptance came with condition that I am not able full fill at this moment. From all the waiting and expectations building up, yesterday I entered negotiations with other interested parties. One of them in particular offered me 2 fantastic kick ass long term deals that I am on the verge of accepting (1 of them obviously). This means that in near future I will do nl50/100 with full staking + coaching from guys who are proven NL200+ crushers on large sample with big win rates. This means potentially for me 10k+ months during the long term deal. Something that I very much look forward to and which will bring me steps closer to 300k retirement fund much sooner then expected.

This is all for this update. I will update in near future again with more details once I accept long term deal and lay out what my plans will be during it.

Thanks for reading and following!

It looks as though things are turning in your favour, assuming that Stars are going to eventually make the same changes to ring games as Full Tilt has made today, as you haven't been particularly keen on table selection anyway.

Zoom - no table selecting!
Reg Speed - table selecting one of the most important things

Since I might switch to reg speeds in future, I will be table selecting of course :)
Although I still stand by what I said many times earlier - you don't get to improve as a player bum hunting and playing just fish, you need to learn to play vs regs and dominate them as well if you want to keep improving!

Account for the fact that your opponents also won't have an opportunity to select tables better than you, to get an edge over you this way.

Everyone has had an opportunity to check out Unibet's games that had the same seating model from the start of its independency (February 2014). I think there was no shortage of recreationals, though I didn't get enough time to assess that because my ISP started blocking access to Unibet's login screen and the site did nothing to fix the issue (didn't set up a mirror site fast, which is a normal way of dealing with the weak Russian legislation), so I withdrew in panic.

The reason why normal tables with random seating will still be softer than Rush is that the fast fold button entices recreationals to fold too often, plus, when you sit at the same (though random) table for long enough, you start developing history and reads that you wouldn't accumulate fast enough in Rush.

Anyway, it looks as though the changes are going to be limited to Full Tilt only, not come to Pokerstars. The brands are going distinct ways - Stars are still going to be a 'communal grave of regs', as I always like to say, because the biggest winner in the games is rake anyway, and winning regs make good profit only because bad regs overestimate themselves and continue playing where it's -EV for them. (I only dare to play niche formats there, where recreationals still have an okay presence, that essentially don't run anywhere else, e.g. NLO8 MTTs.)

I've been away from the forums here for a while now (been working on my hu game and making some much-needed lifestyle changes, amongst other things), but saw this, and felt compelled to post my congratulations on your achievements!

It's great to see someone's dedication and hard graft pay dividends, and reassuring to see another veteran of PStrgy (ie: >25yr old) being successful, especially considering the transition of formats.

Looking forward to seeing those '10k months' graphs and some awesome Vegas pics!

(I told you you'd be crushing NL100 before long, didn't I?) :f_biggrin: :f_p: :f_ugly: :f_rolleyes:

@tonypmm
Think the best possible option for regular speed tables is to have as many clients as possible and apply proper table selecting in all of them. That would increase probability of playing most of the times best tables + playing hands/hour ratio that works for level of unconscious competence. Right now I am testing the waters for reg speeds but for permanent switch to them I would most likely do 4-5 clients minimum for 8+ tables and that goes even for NL50 limit.

@sherriffatman
Its been a while, I am very happy to see you back here! Tell me more about HU switch and how that with lifestyle changes is going, interested to hear all about it!
You were the one showing faith in me and NL100 that is true and I thank YOU for such support now and in future many times :)
I also look forward to those 10k+$ months in poker. In today's day and age where poker industry is in decline for traffic it becomes very important to maximize hourly and return to our time invested. In that sense it would make sense to make money tomorrow then in 5 years for 10k things as it is still somewhat easier to do it now compared to 5 years from now (where I expect general starting knowledge and level of such to make 10k per month to be somewhat different!)

Lets see what happens in next 3 days, I am very close to making a decision about long term deal vs playing on my own.
