BTW i think BTN fold vs CO steal is very useful stats on NL25 and below by personal experience most of the players on NL2/NL5 are with BTN fold vs CO steal over 85-90%.Basicly most of the time you can act like you are on the button without any big worries.

Looks reasonable. Seems like one or two stats that I like missing.

For example raise-vs-flop-cbet. BB fold to SB steal. Also not really sure what all stats are for example FBTXRB, no idea what this stat is.

:heart:considering playability (high card, connectivity, suitedness)
:heart:considering position
:heart:considering initiative
:heart:considering opponent level of aggression
:heart:considering skill edge

The ranges that you listed are both way too wide imo. Also OOP ranges should be a LOT tighter than IP iso-ranges.

Most important factors are -

- Stack-size
- Villain's postflop tendencies (i.e does he fold to cbets)
- Villain's preflop tendencies (i.e will they limp/fold a ton, do they limp/raise frequently)
- Players left to act behind (i.e will they overcall or squeeze
- Position (as mentioned). Including hero's position at the table. So we can't iso as wide in MP as we'd iso on the BTN because there are more players to act behind us when we iso in MP.

I would start out by tightening both ranges. My OOP iso-ing range looks more like this ---->
(Just the hands in red, the blue hands are possible SB completes vs a limper)

during yesterday coaching (great as always) you talked about raising flop. I have one hand from this week I´m not sure about raising or not - I´m in general often lost in these spots

Villain is pretty agro fish playing 48/28 on 900 hand sample. He´s not total agro monkey postflop but he´s definitely much more aggresive than average micro reg and is able to raise as a bluff. But I would have the same problem against more aggresive regs.

On the flop I´ve had a though time since I feel there are plenty hands is villain´s range I have value from and I need protection but there are also good amout of hands which beat me. So I had no idea if I can raise because after 3bet I would be really sad with my hand.

Maybe I could more incline to raise here because villain bet 1/2 pot on such a wet board which can be a sizing tell I guess.

MP: $2.06 (20.6 bb)
CO: $10.23 (102.3 bb)
BTN: $4.59 (45.9 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Q J
UTG raises to $0.20, 4 folds, Hero calls $0.10

Flop: ($0.45) T J Q (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets $0.21, Hero calls $0.21

Turn: ($0.87) 7 (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets $0.41, Hero calls $0.41

River: ($1.69) 7 (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG checks

Results:

Spoiler

$1.69 pot ($0.08 rake)
Final Board: T J Q 7 7
Hero showed Q J and won $1.61 ($0.79 net)
UTG mucked 9 J and lost (-$0.82 net)

I think with 100bb effective I slightly prefer calling down. Raising and stacking will put as in a situation where we are at the bottom of our stacking range. It's usually better to be at the top of our calling range rather than the bottom of our raising range.

However we are only 60bb effective which means that we should have no problem playing for stacks here. We can expect our opponent to commit with a wider range when shallow So given the effective stack depth I would raise and get the money in, depending on what the turn card is. We also have the read that you mentioned meaning that villain can probably stack off wider than the average player at these limits.

hi weazel,

I posted this hand already in the usual discussion boards but it's a spot that pops up where i'm not really sure to play agressive or passive OTT - pair + OESD

Hero posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has T♦ J♦

fold, fold, fold, BTN raises to 2.64 BB, Hero raises to 9 BB, BB calls 8 BB, fold

Flop: (20.64 BB, 2 players) 9♥ 8♣ T♣
Hero checks, BB bets 12 BB, Hero calls 12 BB

Turn: (44.64 BB, 2 players) 3♥
Hero checks, BB bets 26 BB, Hero calls 26 BB

River: (96.64 BB, 2 players) 6♠
Hero checks, BB bets 57.88 BB and is all-in, fold

BB wins 92.28 BB

In this spot it's a 3bet pot and i want to check this board alot but i'm not really clear of the best line.... cbetting? check calling? i don't really like facing a raise OTF / turn because we have alot of equity and we get it in vs sets a two pairs and on the turn maybe i can check raise or check call again - just a little lost of the finesse vs spew here.

Also assume the same hand & texture we are CO v BB call in a single raised pot as the aggressor - bet bet? delayed cbet? bet check check?

Hi Adam.

Here's another idea for the video:

- Playing/adjusting vs linear ranges (3bets OOP and IP). If it's not good enough for a video, would you briefly describe how would you adjust if you're being 3bet by linear, but not tight range? No call range at all ? Thanks.

@mattyvx

I don''t 3bet this hand preflop unless BB is hyper aggro squeezer. Hand is clearly good enough to flat and I don't subscribe to the idea of playing 3b only in the small-blind. Fancy play imo, especially at lower limits.

However this is not to say 3betting is -EV, clearly +EV decision and usually the best option if BB is aggressive.

We flop a bluffcatcher and we can refer to it as being somewhat non-vulnerable since we also hold an oesd. Protection is hence less important and we should general opt for a x/c, x/c, x/f line, which is what you did.

I'll add the idea to the list.

The basic idea is that linear ranges are stronger than polarized ranges. The equity we have with most holdings will go down and we should typically defend with a tighter range. So if we are defending vs 8% polarized compared to 8% linear we'd defend tighter in the second example.

By the time players start 3betting a hugely wide linear range from the SB the difference between polarized and linear becomes a little obscured. For example a hand like 78s might appear in both ranges. So usually the wider the range gets the less the observable difference in our defending patterns.

thanks - what hands would we play x/c x/c x/c with? KQcc or too strong? TT with the top set or too vunerable or something like AA/KK, i'm not feeling great after getting called OTF with my overpairs here especially vs a tighter guy

hi i tried to implement something i picked up from the range construction video about check calling some draws OOP, here villian loose like a looser TAG reg he has 4/7 float flop and I think this board hit's him well so don't want to face a raise and we are multiway. My plan was to check call and check raise turn but his sizing on the turn was so big so I bottled it. Unsure how to play here, check call again? if I check raise I basically have to call it off to a 3bet i guess not sure about just cbetting this draw multiway either

@mattyvx - What you've learned about x/c draws doesn't work aswell multi-way. You are much better off cbetting in this hand. We have a decent draw and we look pretty strong when firing 3-way so we should have some fold-equity also.

Normally a pretty good spot to go for a x/r. Assuming we check/call we have to commit to donk bluffing heart rivers otherwise it should be a x/r on turn if we don't feel comfortable x/r.

Hi, when is the next coaching/the next vid gonna be released?
Topicwise: I could use some input about dealing with Squeezes, donk bets and c/r in general an vs. different player types. When to play back? how to adapt vs wider ranges?

Also, I started working on Squeezing ranges a while ago, but didn't finish. Is there anyone out there willing to cooperate on that? I could imagine uploading them in that case.

I'm gonna upload a vid today so hopefully won't be too long before release. Next live coaching is tonight.

Thanks for suggestions on topics.

Ok guys, topic of today's live coaching is check-raising.

Please post hands where you check-raise the flop. 2 points for each hand posted up to maximum of 2 hands. (You can post more but you won't get points).

We'll check them out during the session to see if we like the flop x/r and also if we agree with the play on later streets.

I'll be interested in this and will try and be there this evening :)

I'll start off with my HM2 summary of recent hands I have check raised the flop. I presume its something I don't do anywhere enough, looking at this! I have no concept at all for the theoretical optimisation of check raising the flop, when I should be doing it, and when I shouldn't.
I can see 58 occasions (4%) where I have check raised the flop - from 1,477 opportunities (I check/folded 967 times (65%) and I check/called 452 times(31%) ).

If anyone is interested in asking me to upload any specific hands that the can see below, I'm happy to oblige :)

Ok - so 2 hands .... hmmm.... which to pick - think I'll choose my biggest winner and my biggest loser.....

Biggest loser:

Spoiler

Ok - I've just looked at the hand, and I'm too embarrassed to post that :$ It was REALLY bad - I got married to TPTK in a multiway pot, for no good reason that I can see now!

So here's my second biggest loser!

IPoker, $0.02/$0.05 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite.

Hero (SB): $5.97 (119.4 bb)
BB: $2 (40 bb)
UTG: $4.59 (91.8 bb)
MP: $5.11 (102.2 bb)
CO: $5.57 (111.4 bb)
BTN: $4.69 (93.8 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with J T
4 folds, Hero raises to $0.15, BB raises to $0.40, Hero calls $0.25

Flop: ($0.80) J A 8 (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $0.30, Hero raises to $1.70, BB calls $1.30 and is all-in

Turn: ($4) 3 (2 players, 1 is all-in)
River: ($4) 3 (2 players, 1 is all-in)

Results: $4 pot ($0.26 rake)
Final Board: J A 8 3 3
Hero mucked J T and won $0.00 (-$2.00 net)
BB showed K K and won $3.74 ($1.74 net)

So this is blind on blind play, which I'm sure influenced my thinking. I only have 29 hands history on villain now (and probably less at the time the hand was played) - so villain is basically an unknown. This is the only hand I have in my db where he has faced a steal. His postflop aggression factor (for what its worth) shows on my HUD as 0.3 and his total 3bet shows at 11%. His VPIP/PFR is 21/14.

And my biggest winner:

Spoiler

IPoker, $0.02/$0.05 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

Hero (SB): $5 (100 bb)
BB: $1.86 (37.2 bb)
UTG: $4.85 (97 bb)
MP: $5 (100 bb)
CO: $5.03 (100.6 bb)
BTN: $7 (140 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 8 8
UTG raises to $0.15, MP calls $0.15, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.13, BB calls $0.10

Flop: ($0.60) 8 2 4 (4 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $0.60, UTG calls $0.60, MP calls $0.60, Hero raises to $1.50, BB calls $0.90, UTG raises to $4.70 and is all-in, MP folds, Hero raises to $4.85 and is all-in, BB calls $0.21

Turn: ($12.31) 9 (3 players, 2 are all-in)
River: ($12.31) 3 (3 players, 2 are all-in)

Results: $12.31 pot ($0.82 rake)
Final Board: 8 2 4 9 3
Hero mucked 8 8 and won $11.49 ($6.64 net)
BB showed 7 4 and lost (-$1.86 net)
UTG showed A A and lost (-$4.85 net)
MP mucked and lost (-$0.75 net)

What on earth was that 74o thinking?
I think I was wrong to check raise - I was 4 way and my opponents were betting for me - I had top trips on a rainbow board - my hand was at that stage relatively safe. I could give another card away and give others the opportunity to improve a bit.

I'll be there as well.

This one belongs into the bluff part of my c/r range. But I'm not sure, maybe I've gone to far. Villiain knows fold button and I would continue betting the turn with every :club: and every 5. I would tend towards betting aces on turn. I wouldn't bet any card that gives us a gut shot on the turn mostly. Not sure about that either.

Here I'm not sure, if I was aware, that villain was UTG. Nevertheless.
Flop brings two backdoors. Every :club:, K or 9 (except the :spade: ones) gives good barrel cards. I'm now uncertain, if this is a profitable play against UTG. Especially after the turn comes a King, which could hit UTGs continuing range better then that of a later position.
