August 15 update: Managed to play two decent sessions volume wise. All in all a break even day. Catching up on the 1k average hands per day.
Oh my gosh, today has been brutal. Just came home from a 16 hour work day in the restaurant and going to fire up a session in a couple of minutes but thought I'd update this thread first. As you can see I managed to get the Silver status on this site for the first time in well over a year I think. I'm also a Chromestar VIP on Pokerstars for now. It's all in the little things.
This is where I stand before my session on the 17th (but I'm already counting this day in the statistics.
:heart Still enjoying this game!
My win rate has dropped quite dramatically, mainly because I made stupid calls and partly because I stopped running hotter than the sun. Also, the sessions I played this weekend were longer than I'm used to so I think I reverted to mindlessly clicking buttons for a period of time. I'm still happy I'm on track to catch up with my monthly goals averages.
Well my session-after-work lasted the entire 120 hands! I was falling asleep as I was playing. Had one of the best nights of sleep in a while en slept ten hours. Seeing as I only have to work in about eight hours, now is the time to get playing!
All that after I wish my mom a happy 50th birthday!
Meh, an otherwise ok day at the poker tales got ruined by me accidentally calling a 130bb openshove (whilst having 130bb myself), which I obviously lost. So rather than be in the green for a small amount (around 30bb), I end the day down 1bi. Nothing too atrocious but it does suck when it happens right as you're ending your session. Win rate continues to sink, guess I'm doing something wrong :f_mad:. On the bright side, I'm still winning money on 2nl in the sample I have, and I'm on track for my volume and VPP goals. It's something!
Hey Kevin,
Welcome to the 'Get Rich or Die Tryin' bankroll challenge. we will be looking forward to your first update which you should post by Monday of each week in Get Rich or Die Tryin' - The Bankroll Challenge - Reporting thread.
Have fun
Laz
It's been a while since I did an update. Shame on me! I had a really good couple of days, both at the poker tables and in life. #winning! The stats will be correct until the 21st, since I'm about to start todays' session in about fifteen minutes.
Whoops, what was supposed to be my ultimate grinding day ended with... 0 hands. There's something about Sunday football watching parties at 11am in the morning. Came home not drunk, but drank enough not to play. I learned my lesson on the alcohol and playing part a long time ago, luckily!
That also means I fell farther behind on my goals, and with my sister visiting until Sunday it'll be one hell of a fun end of the month if I want to make it!
On the flip side, my first week of the get rich or die trying' challenge is in the books and I didn't do too terrible at it. Here's my current progress in the challenge:
Week 1(17/08-23/09)
5,919 hands
Starting bankroll: $61.73
Weekly profit: + $3.33 (+ 5.39%)
Overall profit: + $3.33 (+ 5.39%)
Current bankroll: $65.06
Well, since my sister's visiting from Wednesday (day before yesterday) until Sunday evening, there is not much time for me to play. This means I'll probably fail the volume challenge and as a result, not pass the VPP challenge either. That's the 'bad' news. The good news? I'm playing fairly good, I'm doing really well in the Get Rich or Die Tryin' challenge and my EV win rate is solid up until now.
Considering I only started my challenges on the 11th, it is nice to see I'm keeping up on the average of 1,000 hands per day, but can't seem to commit more time to close the gap opened by those first eleven days. I play every time I can, and obviously every time I actually feel like it (very important!) but I'll most likely get stranded somewhere around the 21-23k mark. Let's see what the 30th and the 31st bring in available time to get as close to those 31,000 hands and 248VPP goals as possible!
Week 2 of my Get Rich or Die Tryin' challenge is in the books! Volume was difficult with my sister visiting me all the way from Belgium, but I honestly can't complain about how I played that volume. Running hot and making right decisions made me jump another $9 in profit this week.
Week 2 (24/08-30/08
3,104 hands
Starting bankroll: $61.73
Weekly profit: + $9.35 (+ 14.37%)
Overall profit: + $12.68
Current bankroll: $74.41
I will not make my volume goals for August (31,000 hands) but will grind out as many hours as I can today as I have five hours to kill before to go to work. Well, one of them will be watching the second episode of Fear The Walking Dead. First episode didn't convince me at all, but I'm giving the series another chance.
I've been thinking about September goals, but they'll be very similar to my August goals I think.
August review and September goals
August was an alright month poker wise. It was the first month in forever that I actually played the game, albeit 9max STTs at first. Once I switched to 2nl 6max Zoom I started taking playing more seriously to at least try to have a decent win rate and I did. Although my last session of the month was the most terrible session in my recent history, I still think August was pretty ok.
I played a total of 20,098 hands of 2nl 6max Zoom in 35.04 hours with a win rate of 5.10BB/100 (4.72 EVBB/100) earning $0.60/hour with 590.25 hands/hour. Almost all of these hands were played two tabling. In total I made $20.51 at the tables while raking in $16.65. At this moment I can't tell you how many VPP I had, but my estimate is that I totalled around 170.
Since I'll be starting September from the first rather than the eleventh (like August) I have made myself the following goals:
37,500 hands
4BB/100 EV winrate
375VPP
Get rolled for 5nl 6max Zoom come October 1 (This will be at least 20bi or $100 including any bonuses / T$ I win during September. T$ will be sold for $ when I can.)
Well, September turned out a bust volume wise. I have a lot of real life commitments at this moment but I only played on the first. I met my minimum amount of hands there, but from the 2nd to the 5th I didn't play a single hand. I started off great though winning quite a few stacks in those first 1.3k hands.
Finally found time to play today and everything was going well, up a stack, playing decent, winning some flips, losing some flips until this hand happened. I actually sat out of my session to write this blog post. Why? Mentally I'm not nearly ready to take poker as something more than a cool 'waste of time'. Obviously this happens when we're frigging 300bb deep, but whatever. There's no way he's doing that with KK or anything else imo, or it has to have a flipping disorder. I was already preparing a split pot with some VPP earnings at least, but poker taught me she can do whatever she pleases. Autch. I'll be playing some more though as I'm still at a really good EV win rate. This just got to me for ten minutes and I needed a little break after that hand.

In week three of my Get Rich or Die Tryin' challenge and everything is still going ok. In the green in all my weeks and relatively high jumps in bankroll increase %-wise. If only I could up the volume a bit, 3,000 hands is nothing.

3,150 hands

Writing this update from gate B27 at Toronto Pearson International. I've spent eleven months in Canada and loved it. I met a lot of people, had a job that gave me satisfaction... It's going to be hard to be away from all of that. Every one I saw to say goodbye to asked me if I was ever coming back but I honestly couldn't answer that. I know that I'd have a job without even having to apply for it, courtesy of my now ex-employer, living in a city this big was rejuvenating, especially coming from a small Belgian village. I know I'd love being here for longer than a year, but for some reason something seems to be holding me back. Guess I'll have to take a few weeks to actually figure it out.
On to poker then! The apartment didn't have internet for three days, so no grinding for me! It'll be nice to grind with a mouse and keyboard again, on a 30 inch screen where I can fit more than two tables.
The month started out great but the last sessions I ran terrible, and spewed money because of it, making me pretty much break even for the month. It's only been 5,000 hands where I'm winning 1.37BB/100 (7.84EVBB/100 though). The sample size I have now is still pretty small, but at least it's getting there, 25,000 to be exact.
Will try and have a giant session on Sunday when I'm rested and met up with family and friends
So it's been about 24 hours since I surprised my parents and specially my little brother by coming home a month earlier than I said. Extra special was that I returned on my bro's 10th birth day. He was so happy, I'm glad I made the decision to come home early. It's such a weird feeling. I miss Toronto and the people I left behind there but at the same time it was really easy for me to come back home. I feel like I never really left for longer than a couple of weeks. Pretty much stuck between feelings and emotions.
Pokerwise the last week has been terrible. Not only results wise, but how I played the hands I played as well. I'm playing on my desktop again and it feels so much smoother! Having a hud is weird too, never really felt like I missed that while I was playing on my laptop. I tried some 4-tabling yesterday but that was pretty overwhelming so I cut down to two tables again. In the middle of trying to catch up on my volume goal for September, it's going ok.
Another thing I noticed that the BB/100 value in Pokertracker (which I had to use because of my MacBook) and my bb/100 value in HEM2 (desktop) are the same. I always thought BB = 2xbb, but for some reason my BB/100 for August is the same as my bb/100 in August. Maybe they changed something I wasn't aware of.
September has been an absolute nightmare so far, with a special mention for last week. Keep running into the top of people's ranges and what's worst if I don't seem to be learning from my mistakes. I've played nearly 8,000 hands and am $0.90 down for the month (ev about up 1.4bi). Temporary setback of course!
Week 4 (07/09-13/09
5,831 hands
Starting bankroll: $61.73
Weekly profit: - $11.22 (-14.10%)
Overall profit: + $6.58
Current bankroll: $68.31
I swear to whatever diety that will listen, I fucking suck at making goals and keeping them. It's been almost a month since my last update. A lot happened in real life, practically nothing on the poker tables. i switched from SH to FR zoom and have played around 16k hands in total. I was quite sick for two weeks and have finally recovered, allowing me to play some poker again. Obviously I got kicked out of the Get Rich or Die Tryin' challenge, and rightfully so.
