So I was playing some NL2 to build a second BR today. A turn barrel and a reason for just calling a turn barrel:

1) Pretty standard, we 3 bet for value and tripple barrel for value/Protection against draws. I am not totally sure though with the sizing, worse hands like JJ and QQ should still be able to call against a bit more reggy players. I want to get a lot of value against this type of player on the Turn, and what he comes up with on the River where I bring in the rest of the money is a bit surprising after his call - however, not totally unexpected on this limit.

MP mucks Ad 5d (Two Pair, Eights and Fives)
(Pre 33%, Flop 41%, Turn 25%)

Hero wins 207 BB

2) In this spot we call with a pocket pair against MP for set value, which we hit on the flop.
Since MP looks fairly tight over 2k hands and bets a good amount on the flop (probably for protection against draws) I do not see much point in raising him here. The decision on the Turn is a bit tough now, as a flush hits: His turn c-bet is very small which indicates that he probably does not have the flush and I do not want to shy him away with a raise. At this point his range pretty much consists of TT+ made hands in my view that would not be eager to call a big reraise here. The river completes some draws that I do not really see in MPs range for the reason that he is looking like a tighter player on this limit. He checks the river and I bet pretty small for value against his high pocket pairs, and he makes a call with his pocket kings.

first of all I would like to join the academy. Is it still possible?
Furthermore I would like to ask if the latest coachings will be available in the video section any time soon? Or will coachings only be available live?

It's never too late to join the academy.

As I mentioned in the live coachings I will give away points faster as the academy continues so it should still be possible to climb to the top of the roster with good support and activity.

All the coachings will hit the video section at some point. I guess it just takes a little while before they get posted.

Hi, w34z3l!

I have a question about squeezing. In the video of squeezing you said that our squeezing frequencies should be slightly lower than our 3betting frequencies. Then you gave two examples of squeezing ranges:

:spade: When we are on the BTN, UTG opens and MP calls, our squeezing range is 6,71%. Does that mean that our 3betting range BTN vs UTG open should be like 7,5-8%? My default 3betting range BTN vs UTG open is 5,12%.

:spade: Also, when we are on the BB, CO opens and BTN calls, our squeezing range is 9,27%. Does that mean that our 3betting range BTN vs CO open should be like 10,5-11%? My default 3betting range BB vs CO open is 7,54%.

Great concept with the acadamy, btw, and too bad that I don't have enough time to follow!

I'm disappointed to have missed the last couple and was hoping a recording would be uploaded by Pokerstrategy, but that doesn't appear to be happening - are there any plans for videos of the sessions to be uploaded?

Hey guys,

Thanks for your questions, will get to them soon.

The topic of this weeks coaching will be Value-Betting-River

We are looking for spots where we can bet for a little extra thin-value. Please post some hands for review.

As mentioned, points awarded will be increasing more and more. So if you can find 2 situations where you are not sure whether you should value-bet the river, it will be worth 15 points. If you find 1, it will be worth 8 points.

Good luck!

I will start with a hand where I was first totally unsure about villains range preflop (an unknown and not to find, but looking fairly tight) , then as a result did not know if there was so much value in a river bet - what he came up with on the river after my check amazed me a bit. I thought he wanted to trap with some draws like AKs, AQs or even Aces given his 3bet size, which is why I decided to only flat Kings preflop. Over all, a pretty uncomfortable spot for me.

But see for yourself:

Hand #1
Villain seems a reg that does not fold to cbet in 3bet pots (until the date of hand)...
He opens 43% from BTN and folds to 3bet 69%.
I bet all in river because he did not raise turn on such a scary board, and i look like a bluff because no one would bet that river? He called with 3rd pair... wow.

Ugly river vs a fish, with little money behind.
I bet to not let it check behind because i'm probably not folding?

On flop i am exploiting this guy who cbets 80% overall with a 51% range in BTN.
He folds to raises 45% so i'm good. Wanted to value bet river but the Q showed up.
Now i am actually thinking the Q on river probably helps me get paid because i look like a bluff?

Another spot on the river in a 3 bet pot where I wonder if there is thin value was the following hand. We get min3bet with fours, and flop a set on a suited board. Not the best flop, but as we know, the min3bet at the micros is often a strong range like QQ+. He does not necessarily have to have a flush here. So I decide to keep the pot small and come to the river for a cheap price. Since he checks, I decide to bet for thin value against overpairs - did not know he spiked a better set though lol

MP wins 53.8 BB

Last but not least: The desperate try to get some value on the river out of the stone cold nuts - is the sizing ok? He looked pretty weak, and I wondered what he would still call. No idea to get more money into the pot - probably should have bet a bit larger on earlier streets. Looks like the sizing on the river was ok, given his hand. Btw, I limped pf because the table was full of loose-passive players, who pretty certainly would not raise, but call an isoraise for sure. I normally never do that :)

That river bet size with 4:c 4:h is a good bluff and it is a good bluffcatch vs a similar size bet...
This is what i think... Will see what w34z3l says.

Theoretically they should be uploading them. Not sure exactly what the delay is. I imagine they will be coming at some point.

Ok keep in mind that our overall squeeze should be slightly lower than our 3bet frequency. This is what I meant by the comment in the video. I didn't get into any specific spots.

BTN vs UTG, can be something like 6% 3bet for sure.

BB vs CO should be around 8%
